Update: 2 Aug, 2016 @ 3:07pm

Fixed an issue with Labyrinth Zone with an incorrectly placed spike.

Update: 1 Aug, 2016 @ 11:01pm

tl;dr: I wanted to modify Sonic 1 to be more like 2 and 3 without changing the majority of the level design, also I moved Marble to Zone 5 so Spring Yard could be Zone 2.

Update: 1 Aug, 2016 @ 10:55pm

Modified every Zone to make the Level Design more closely resemble the Later Genesis Sonic Games and better suit momentum based gameplay. The core Level Layout is unchanged, only the objects and enemies have been modified to change annoying level segments into more interesting ones while remaining difficult.

- Various major and minor changes to Object and Enemy Layout in Stages.
- Stage Order modified so Green Hill is Zone 1, Spring Yard is Zone 2, Labyrinth is Zone 3, Star Light is Zone 4, Marble is Zone 5, and Scrap Brain is Zone 6.
- The Level Select Screen has been modified to reflect the new Stage Order.
- Press Start Button text is restored on the Title Screen.

Individual Stage Modifications are as follows:

1) Green Hill Zone had lower paths modified to better indicate drop offs. Overabundance of spikes altered to other objects. Certain traps have obstacles placed in their way so Sonic is brought to a stop rather than damaged, while a good player can still jump to maintain their speed. Vertically Moving Floor section altered to have more variety and reduce chances of an unforeseen death.

2) Spring Yard Zone has many of the spike balls removed, this now gives the stage a more elegant and faster feel as the majority of half pipes are free to roll in and build up momentum. Each of the vertical shafts have been modified into a unique design, rather than forcing the player to move through vertically stacked blocks frequently throughout the zone. Some are modified so players can speedily ascend, some are replaced with bumpers and rings to better fit the stage theme.

3) Labyrinth Zone has had many of the spikes and some of the enemies replaced with other, more varied traps. More rings are located in the stage so that Sonic will get closer to drowning because he's collecting extra rings, not because he keeps hitting things underwater. Act 3 has been modified so that Sonic isn't forced to die if they miss a block early on. Underwater segments modified to test the player's willingness to go without air and focus the level flow on underwater movement.

4) Star Light has seen slight modifications to remove deaths that punished the Player enjoying some of the speedier moments of the stage.

5) Marble Zone has been moved to later in the game so as to not drag down the pacing of the game earlier on. Slight modification to one of the Lava River Rides to allow the Player to progress through the segment faster.

6) Scrap brain has been lightly modified to better indicate some cheap deaths.
