First of all a small asteroid would do basically no damage.
Secondaly it has been proven that organisms and viruses can survive these conditions.

Oh, I forgot one thing; Why does the virus need "fuel"?

So the fact that the virus was even alive for about 4 billion years is already strange, but I have other points I must make.

1. Shouldn't the virus be destroyed when the asteroid is re-entering (and possibly exploding) in the atmosphere?

2. If it managed to land, should it not have destroyed human civilization with it?

Sorry if I sound nitpicky. But other than that the scenario's good...ish.
