Ooooh I heard about this a while ago, it's very interesting. SCPs are great fuel for inspiration on horror stories

If you want to learn about individual SCPs, I recommend looking up videos on YouTube. You could also read the original stories, but at some point the SCP Foundation website got hacked, and I don't know if it's been restored yet. (The fact that I mentioned creepypastas should be hint enough, but just in case, do be warned that a lot of them are spooky)

SCPs are an ancient internet creepypasta sort of thing--originally starting as horror stories about anomalous creatures and objects, linked to the SCP Foundation. 'SCP' also stands for the Foundation's motto, "Secure. Contain. Protect." The SCP Foundation collects everything classed as an SCP to get it away from harming the public, and to study it for science.

SCP's, apart from their originating stories, are known most for the games based upon them--the most commonly-known ones being SCP-087 and SCP-087-B, games based upon an SCP that is an endless staircase with unspeakable horrors the deeper down you get, and the game SCP Containment Breach, which is a randomly-generated maze game where you explore the SCP facility as one of its test subjects, attempting to escape the facility alive, when all of the SCPs breach containment.

I've been playing all the horror maps on portal, so I didn't find it scary. But I definitely would, if I was new to this.

I appreciate this map, don't listen to people complaing about something they got for free

So I was too afraid to finish this map, but I love the setup at the beginning! I did watch the video, though, and I think that it would do better if there were different dramatic/scary music and if you were allowed to die; otherwise the end feels abrupt.

It's Robot Ghost Story from the Portal 2 Soundtrack, known internally as sp_a2_bts3_b1 and sp_a2_bts3_x1 , I believe.

what is the music?? i cant find it in hammer? making a horror map. if you could look in the map and find the ambient_generic that'd be awesome

I think The Stanley Parable would be a better place to appreciate stairs, there are a few staircases in that game.

oh, who would'nt want to walk down some staircase with a friend tho like think about it, you can describe the texture of the stairs what you see, and even how you felt going down the stairs, descending or ascending, then once the journey of the staircase is over, you both feel very satisfied with yourselves and are now complete with life.

Lite horror, at that. Also, by experience, the map only takes an average of 5-10 minutes to complete, usually.

On a scale of 1 to 10 on how scary this is, I'd rate it a 1. You want real Portal 2 horror go play CamBen's The Office Prank. Now THAT'S a real horror experience in Portal 2.

what man no actually ok im kinda young to being playing horror (ok i have played it and it had turret moving noises wich caught me off guard it actually isnt that spoopy ((I also thought 60 flights of stairs would take half an hour))

I have not palyed this map properly but i noclip to the bottom and there was a dead but standing turret so i guess what happens is the turret activates when you get close

SCP-087-B is its own separate game. There are two versions, old and new-ish, and this was based upon the old version. Both versions are a lot longer than what I have here, and have more spoops.

I've never played SCP Containment Breach, and I have no intention to. (Horror games fuck me up,) This map has done nothing but confirm my hesitance. You've taught me nothing except how to cynically manipulate the system. Congratulations.

Noises: Those actually play in the main Portal 2 campaign, just at a quieter volume.

scp 087 is a terret

Among anything else I can say in response to that, Source maps have a limit of how many entities you can have in a level.

It's not pretty trying to fix that when you've already hit the limit. Not that that's the case with this map, but then, since it's just 60 flights of stairs with diminuitive jumpscares, having 50 less flights would make the map too short, whereas adding an additional 940 flights would make it excessive.

Your job is superb, i like very much your idea of light, it gives an ambincy surprising.
But why not 10 or 1000 stairs ?

The Turret Tag Ruined The Surprise ;-;

Actually, it's just 60 flights of stairs. Counting each step from the 60 flights, that's only 2013 steps, given that the same stairway model is used 61 times here and each individual model has 33 steps. This also does not include the concrete landings at each individual floor out of the 60 available, but even with those included, it does not go anywhere near to having 10 Million steps as you suggest.

Aww.. when you said there was a monster at the bottom floor I was half wanting a mirror at the bottom and an end there. That would've been the best troll ending ever. Good job on this recreation anyways!

Now I remember why I didn't like going down to the basement at night when I was a kid. :)
