it's a nice ship but the front connector is a bitch to line up since there's no real camera to help guide you in. it's also annoying to hitch up thanks to it being somewhat recessed into the armor so if you try to connect it to another ship i suggest you turn it on it's side if you absolutely can't extend out the other connector. Other than that it's a good ship.

It was a challenge to find the cockpit tucked in where it was. I flew around the ship several times before I found it.

@PLKarmann Thanks! Will keep it up ;)
Schiefer 17 okt 2017 om 5:11
looks nice, gonna check it out as soon as I can... the ACI Ships have always been a pleasure to use, sir, and so I expect this to be...

Nice Work, keep it up!

Thank you kind sir!

Thanks for this nice ship Medlock, you sure do good designs.

Eh, mostly thinking while I type. If you want to do a proper breakdown of the craft in both unaltered and altered forms, we could start an actual discussion post. I'm full of ideas, and seriously considering doing some actual time trials to see how the ship behaves by the numbers.
additionally, the situations described in previous comments may not represent likely scenarios that would regularly occur in the craft's normal opperational area.

@Chief Engineer Caswell:
Sounds like you're doing some propaganda here tbh.
Shrouded Soul 3 okt 2017 om 21:55
Part 1

Why exactly would they do that? To optimize combat capability, (and this is just how I would do it) I'd probably rip out at least two of the cargo containers and replace them with hydrogen tanks to extend fuel time, reenforce sections of the hull with heavy armor, and most importantly, cover the front in gat's. While effective in interception, such a conversion looses some of the carrying capacity of the standard craft. Multiple refit craft would be required to corner an unaltered craft (everywhere to run in space) and then comandeer its cargo.
Shrouded Soul 3 okt 2017 om 21:55
Part 2

If capturing the ship itself is the goal, at least one additional cockpit is needed to carry the guy that will be flying it, which means some tricky reworking if you don't want it to be exposed (the Freelancer is very tightly built, not alot of space occupied by armor blocks to carve out). In the end, such a convertion is doable, and probably the pirate way, but if occurances of such craft pop up too often, instead of escorting the small, fast frieghters, I'd send my cruisers out pirate hunting. If it looks likely, blow it away.
Shrouded Soul 3 okt 2017 om 21:55
Part 3

And yes, I'd send cruisers. not corvettes, not frigates, not destroyers, cruisers, and that is MINIMUM. You threaten my supply shipments, you'll be lucky if you don't get a battlegroup packing dreadnoughts knocking on your door. Pirate's only chance is mobility in such a scenario, but if their nomadic fleet ever shows on scans, it's all over. and bearing in mind that the freelancer is not equiped with FTL, the instalation of which would add extra weight. If the rogues can't get their hands on a carrier vessel, or enough material for a ramshakel jump drive system, they're limited to one area of operation.

All in all, there are pros and cons to every strategy and design, and while a refit Freelancer could reasonably be a problem in certain situations, I don't think it could retain its original functionality and still contend with dedicated military interceptors.
Rhea.licious 3 okt 2017 om 21:14
Yes, but what if the pirates have converted the Freelancer into a combat ship of their own, Chief Engineer Caswell?

A nice small ship cargo ship; the only practical cargo ship that I would actually build. (subbed and liked)
