But you should be permanently imbued but I haven't exactly added a way to get unimbued.
The change notes I have should also indicate this. I'll spend more time getting it organized once I'm not puking my guts up here.
As for you, @Reynster, It's not. There should also be no cool-down but the editor is janky and messes up from time to time. Considering I've set them in over 10 different fashions to be a non-existent cooldown but it still exists. I'm unsure of how to fix this at that point. I might know away though.
Sorry for the issues though! Just haven't been feeling lively as of late. ;-;
I can switch from one Imbue effect to another, but that just means I end up permanently Imbued with the new element. Which is rather distratcting because of the constant animation effects outside of combat.
I also tried loading the save without the mod enabled, to see if I can get it to 'reset' that way, but the save refuses to load and simply crashes if the mod isn't enabled.

You could try that one Elemental Combo Skills mod. since that's really the closest I can think of.
Sworry! I'll be sure to see if there's any others out as well as painfully stabbing at these bugs to incorporate these updates.
If I could get an older version of the edtior, honestly, I'd be able to work a lot faster. These bugs and such are slowing most of my progress down and causing horrifying bugs! ;-;
But yeah, I'm working hard to fix that, even with this painstaking editor.

As for you, @BABA YAGA , I've removed the cooldown and such for the next update. As I said in my description for the mod. I made it by request with only the bare essentials, and as stated below.
I've got a huge update in store for it. But know this. In the next update, the cooldowns are actually gone for the basic imbue strike skills since they're supposed to be equal to basic attacks.
Imbue Statuses are also permanent but won't be able to stack!~
Otherwise, I could've just did what Fire Brand/Venom Coating did and just give additive damage to the weapons. Which would work just as well but not be as fun nor as immersive since that's just enchanting your weapon rather than formulating your weapon and manifesting it into that pure element.
After all, which sounds cooler.

Enabling the mod after character creation in the Hold will also spawn the books in Fort Joy's chest without giving the attribute points.
So no, there should be no issue with enabling it during the game unless you do so at Fort Joy with the expectations of the books actually being there.
I'm trying to fix all of that, but it's proving to be a loopy ride.
@Dimaz I've actually been looking into that for nearly 3 days now. Somehow, on my Phase Shift Skillbook Mod, I've gone from trying to properly add a book into a chest to creating a custom-companion-at-start mod.
Touching the main campaign is some dangerous stuff for me. ;-;
I'm working on fixing this!
Also, if I recall correctly, they're only 120 gold anyhow, but yes. I did say it was personally requested so that's up to the mod requester to determine if I change that main aspect in anyway. Sworry once again!~
