I wouldn't entirely dismiss the use of spangenhelms and ridge helmets, since the last findings of Niederbieber helmets are dated to around 250/60. While they probably continued to be used, new helmet types would have probably been used as well by the 270s.

In the weekend I will add all replies. I will release new version of this mod in January 2019.
Mr.Cavtastic 18 Aug, 2018 @ 12:12pm
do you plan on adding Spathas for the units? as they would of been the primary weapon?
vonVince 8 May, 2018 @ 8:21am
Please KLA, keep working on this great mod when you have the time! :steamhappy:
Maggioriano 28 Apr, 2018 @ 1:15pm
Excuse me KLA why you dlete original shield to ioviani and herculiani? This is no meaning, shield of these units are historically accurate, why you change????? Please put again orginal shields for these units.

Congratulations for the mod, it corrects most of the vanilla mistakes. Thanks for the excellent job!

This mod is brilliant, but the elite units are too heavy and and the light units look too light. There's got to be a way to spread that armor out to make the armies look more professional and less arcady (granted CA's concept)

Please keep working on this mod when you have the time (I'm sure that you have other things to do during Christmas than Rome II, so everyone understand that :steamhappy:). When the next you update this it'd be great if you could keep in mind of what we spoke of earlier (mail coif's and limiting their use on units).
simplemind07 17 Dec, 2017 @ 1:14pm
Are you planning on reskinning Palmyra as well? Great Job btw
Ammianus Marcellinus 16 Dec, 2017 @ 5:21am
yes, thanks, more historically accurate indeed - including the dura europos style mail coifs.

@ vonVince

Thank you. :) First I decided to add it to lower rank units. Later I add it for legionaries. Sometimes it's using by Roman reenactors of the 3rd century and books/magazines. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f7/db/e3/f7dbe3c3f0649a32bb3a96e9e373308e--roman-empire-warfare.jpg Maybe I will delete from Evocati but let it for Levies. It's simple helmets. Probably Niederbieber is too expensive for this unit.

@ Benjin

That's right. Shields was the first reason for me to modify. Subsequently helmets and lack of greaves.:)

@ Stealth4Health

Yes, I think similar. Notitia Dignitatum are later patterns.
vonVince 11 Dec, 2017 @ 3:35pm
Hey, nice work. I really like the changes you made in general - however, I think the mail coif's are problematic. There doesn't seem to be basis for mail coif's being prevalent among Roman military in Europe as you have it in this reskin: we have frescoes from Dura Europos, but this is the Middle Eastern part of the empire, where such headgear would have been more practical (due being more lightweight and "breathing" more). And I'm only saying this as constructive feedback - I don't mean to sound rude.
Benjin 11 Dec, 2017 @ 3:35pm
Wow, they look so much better now. I think it's mainly because of their shields - the more square-like, Imperial ones really fit the time period better than those slightly curved, Marian ones.
Alaric 11 Dec, 2017 @ 3:15pm
@KLA

Thanks for the info :)
I'll have that in mind in my reskin! Keep up the good work, cheers :)

@ aj.karolak

Thanks. :) I think that Dura Europos style could be more similar to design of early Jovians/Herculians. We aren't sure about emblems of early ages of these units.
CA based on Notitia Dignitatum (4th-5th centuries design or later), but their patterns have completely wrong colours.
CA made for Herculians blue shield with yellow eagle. It should be red shield with black eagle.
They made for Jovians brown shield with black eagle, but it should be blue shield with red eagle.
I decided to change it because that styles of pattern came after 390 AD, so around more than 120 years after this game.
KLAssurbanipal  [author] 11 Dec, 2017 @ 3:06pm
@ Alaric

Thank you for kind words. I deleted the deir-el medineh. It is the oldest spangenhelm used by CA, but it's from 4th century. Another 3 types used by CA in Rome are later types from 5th-6th centuries.
Moriarty 11 Dec, 2017 @ 12:52pm
Stealth4Health Maybe you are right, but this vanilla doesn`t look bad and at least we know that maybe later on Herculani and Ioviani had those patterns, I thin it would be better to go back to something like eagle on the shield, anyway I like the mod really, for me this is the only thing that could be better, that`a all:-)
Stealth4Health 11 Dec, 2017 @ 10:16am
@aj.karolak I don't think there is evidence that ND patterns have been used that early already. Or atleast I think the Herculiani bore a Hercules image as their shield pattern first.
Stealth4Health 11 Dec, 2017 @ 10:15am
A lot better!
Moriarty 11 Dec, 2017 @ 9:04am
good mod man:-) but one thing: Herculani and Ioviani have wrong shield patterns, in this case vanilla paterns are better, I think you should consider going back to that or look up in Noticia Dignitatum maybe you can create better ones, anyway good job:-)
Alaric 11 Dec, 2017 @ 7:46am
Amazing work KLA! I like your idea of removing the ridge helms. I'm also working on a reskin, and i got some stuff from Attlila. I'm thinking of dropping the ridge helms too :)
How about deir-el medineh and other spangenhelms, would they be in use? I saw an ilustration of a trajan era legionnaire with a spangenhelm like the syrian auxiliaries one..
