You are right, it feels unfair, the desert are large area unlike the snow where its seasonal. They should have made the desert attrition for everyone, for people who saw the movie: lawrence of arabia, we can see the indigenous arabs are clearly not immune to the desert heat

No more kind of King Cambyses lost army in the desert for the player, no more advantages for ai in moving armies throu desert terrain, great mod author ! I fully support its expansion to other factions and DLCs. Thx
