@Man

Thanks for the replies! I'm looking forward to what future updates bring to the table.

As for the scaling of ships I have no idea honestly. Scales dont work as well as it should back when I played Avorion. There was no easy way to measure how long or tall your ship was and idk if a recent update made it better. I normally just scale my ships according to the existing space stations in game. A capital ship to me would be about 75% - 90% the size of a station but it can be different for everyone

@dex7491 heya. I pretty much semi-quit avorion however a tip i can give you on surface curving is to kind of treat the blocks as if youre playing minecraft. if theres a piece of the ship that needs to curve, build it in a way that it follows a grid. I always make sure all the pieces of my ship follow the same scale. if you look at a voxel style curve, it is usually something like:

------◼
------◼
------◼
----◼
----◼
--◼
--◼

So you can see how 1x3, 1x2, 1x2 then 1x1 cubes will make a curve. In avorion this becomes easier as you can then fill in the hard edges with the 'Corner' pieces. Use the corner pieces to match the length of the surfaces and that way you will make a seamless curve :)

Thats honestly the best way I can explain it. Hopefully you'll understand!

any hints for how to curve surfaces of plates, or even on how to properly scale your ships so you don't trap yourself in a design thats too small? trying to design a ship loosely based of the Mothership from Homeworld 2, and tips would be awesome!

I really like your building style. Plus the way you make the hull / armor plating bend outwards looks good.

I just hope they eventually let you streamline the design of turrets so the weapons on ships like these doesnt look like some strap on rag-tag loot.

@mactypetim79 Thanks! Appreciate it :) And yes, its good to make shields in the first place before design, otherwise many people will fly the ship around with ugly awkard shield blocks because theres no space to put inside the already designed ship xD

I just love the way this looks. I'll have to check my ship collection - I may have already converted it with a hanger for my own private use. Even though you have said you don't fly the ships, I do appreciate the fact you added so much shielding. Many artists here forget to do that (hint hint :)

@Gen_Saris the community is open to modifying any of my designs to better fit gameplay. I myself don't even test my own ships in combat. I only play Avorion for the creative segment
Gen_Saris 1 Mar, 2018 @ 9:26am
Very nice designs, but 50m/s thrust just isn't going to cut it when the combat upgrade drops. Need to be shooting for 100m/s
TheToolToVictory 12 Jan, 2018 @ 2:36pm
Love these designs. you put alot of work even into the smaller details. :steamhappy:

Right on :)
Tess T. Cuhls  [author] 11 Jan, 2018 @ 10:56pm
@Itharus the outer crew quarters make up roughly 20% of the total crew space. The main block inside the ship is more than enough to support all crew :)
Tess T. Cuhls  [author] 11 Jan, 2018 @ 10:54pm
@Zaflis I would probably make a separate ship for carrier purposes sometime in the future. Optimal fighter profuction and hangar placement are some things I havent fully yet understood but will hopefully get around to learning soon :)
Tess T. Cuhls  [author] 11 Jan, 2018 @ 10:52pm
@Drake believe it or not it was supposed to be even bigger lol. I had a 6km long ship in mind but it would handle like a piano. Sizing it down would make it much more maneuverable
Itharus 11 Jan, 2018 @ 6:44pm
Are the outer crew blocks just for looks or are they needed to actively support enough crew for the ship?
Zaflis 11 Jan, 2018 @ 10:35am
You just need at least 120 hangar slots somewhere, and at least some of the hangar blocks need open surface to outside so fighters can fly through. So yes, some hangars can be internal and blocked but still contribute to fighter count.

Maybe it's possible to load in creative mode and scale smaller for midgame.
Drake 10 Jan, 2018 @ 8:46am
the design is very sound, sure its a lumbering arrowhead but it is very good to look at. You could make the design wider if you want to enhance its power reserves and jump capacity. Making it longer hardly seems ideal. Taller perhaps though.

(Time to convert it into a carrier) :P

Thank you! :)

Nice work!Look at her beautiful engine and armour plate.
Tess T. Cuhls  [author] 6 Jan, 2018 @ 3:45am
Thanks! @RavenC

@[BKNE] UrbanMech I just thought Battlecruiser sounded cooler lol. Either way, most ships I build don't serve a specific category anyway
Odepane 6 Jan, 2018 @ 2:06am
Very nice looking ship and has all of the stats I was looking for!! Thanks for building and sharing!
UrbanMech 5 Jan, 2018 @ 9:47pm
I think its more of a battle ship. If we compare it Naval warship classes, designating it as Battle cruiser would mean its a Cruiser with Battleship firepower, lightly armored unlike a Battleship which pack lot of armour and firepower.
Tess T. Cuhls  [author] 5 Jan, 2018 @ 9:30pm
Thanks! @消MoTsu消

@dmrichards6 Unfortunately, I wont be doing any fighter carriers anytime soon however feel free to modify any of my ships to your liking. I have plans for destroyers in the future
drnrichards6 5 Jan, 2018 @ 7:58pm
i need a cargo style one and fighters dude
maybe a frigate or destroyer
ToKoRoSaKu 5 Jan, 2018 @ 4:26pm
good job men i love it ^^
