Throughout the entire series I LOVED the fact that you kept trolling the player with unreachable companion cubes XD that’s how you know someone’s a true Portal 2 memer. But it was a nice wrap-up allowing the player to finally unite with it in this last part….
I tried recording a blindrun but unbeknownst to me I ran out of disk space rather early on so it’s a worthless vid :/
Difficulty: 6.5/10
Enjoyed: 8/10
The comments warned me about the turret ambush , so not sure if it would've caught me out otherwise, but the sudden appearance of the laser field seems like a good way to warn that GLaDOS' treachery isn't quite over.
Great atmospheric design, intense music usage... chamber puzzle quite simple (clever central move, but eh, we've seen harder already) and very short. The boss fight... oy. It's a great idea, but figuring out how the third and fourth flings work while stressed by a timer feels a bit player-hostile. It's not that easy to visually spot that even a "full" fizzler doesn't actually go all the way up to the ceiling, especially when you're already panicking a little.
Lovely "we end at the... beginning?" moment, though.
(Part 1 is still the worst, part 4 is still the best.)
Also, genius that the end is the beginning, I wonder if I'd walked the other way would it start again? If only community maps could be strung together like a campaign.
Secondly, my compliments to this excellent series! I'm new to community-made test chambers / maps and this is so far the hardest I've come across. I've just finished the Reconstruction series too and - even if it's been almost nine years since its release - I hope it gets a continuation one way or another.
Cheers!
Just let me walk outside at least.
GG
In the fight with Glados, I manged to hit her once from the near wall, once from the far (angled) wall. But even after several times juggling the last bomb over the emancipation grid and sending it flying from the angled wall again, the bomb just seems to....miss. I'm sure that's the right thing to do, but it just won't work. That phase isn't in older versions of the map, and so I couldn't even find a walkthorugh to confirm it. It was a shame after getting through the whole map on my own, to then have to watch the ending on youtube.
Great otherwise, though.
LoneWolf your solution vid on YouTube says it's private and the other solutions online show a completely different setup with the button for the bombs being behind a fizzle screen and not just on the ground at the bottom of the bomb tube, making it impossible to complete in the obvious way (and the way it is done in one vid)
I have tried another method but it's impossible to hit the angled wall on the opposite side as the barriers are too high and the jump doesn't go high enough and is obscured by Glados. Did you change this recently? Is there in fact a solution now it's changed?
Excellent series up to this point but now utterly frustrating :(
Just a side note for the series though, on the wide emansapation grills, the edges are all streached and it looks dumm. There are textures in hammer for the sides and center for the wide grills so the edgs don't look all streached out like they do here, you may want to look into that.
On a side note: I'm looking forward to portal stories: mel, I saw it a while ago but I didn't know you were developing it too. Good luck with that, and thank you for the maps.
Thanks so much, LoneWolf. you are really increedible.
