Great series, well thought through right to the end :) Just wished I wasn't so late to the party.....

This was quite the redeeming ending, I must say. Love the custom boss fight. And the puzzle was a welcome change of pace as well - those are in my opinion the best kinds of puzzles, those that look simple but are much harder to solve than they first appear based on the fact that the few elements that do exist must be put to very clever use. There is mild coordination required but nothing that’s undoable, especially if you made it through the last map.

Throughout the entire series I LOVED the fact that you kept trolling the player with unreachable companion cubes XD that’s how you know someone’s a true Portal 2 memer. But it was a nice wrap-up allowing the player to finally unite with it in this last part….

I tried recording a blindrun but unbeknownst to me I ran out of disk space rather early on so it’s a worthless vid :/

Difficulty: 6.5/10
Enjoyed: 8/10

It's funny that so many of your tests stumped me, but the supposedly hardest one, this one with the companion cube, I solved in 5 minutes. It was the GLaDOS battle I couldn't finish...

Great series!

Suddenly worked out the solution to the companion cube bit on a car ride
dboxall123 2 Mar, 2023 @ 8:54pm
I had to quit this one, got sick and tired of trying to get across that gap. Pretty annoying that if you don’t do it first try you have to go back to the beginning and piss about bringing the cube back up there again
Muzozavr 27 Nov, 2022 @ 12:33pm
(One minor bug: save/loading during the boss fight can sometimes shut off the music.)

The comments warned me about the turret ambush , so not sure if it would've caught me out otherwise, but the sudden appearance of the laser field seems like a good way to warn that GLaDOS' treachery isn't quite over.

Great atmospheric design, intense music usage... chamber puzzle quite simple (clever central move, but eh, we've seen harder already) and very short. The boss fight... oy. It's a great idea, but figuring out how the third and fourth flings work while stressed by a timer feels a bit player-hostile. It's not that easy to visually spot that even a "full" fizzler doesn't actually go all the way up to the ceiling, especially when you're already panicking a little.

Lovely "we end at the... beginning?" moment, though.

(Part 1 is still the worst, part 4 is still the best.)
maddog2201 8 Apr, 2022 @ 3:12am
That took me way longer to figure out how to get the cube through the two emancipation grills, but I'm VERY glad I didn't look up a guide, because it was super satisfying figuring it out.

Also, genius that the end is the beginning, I wonder if I'd walked the other way would it start again? If only community maps could be strung together like a campaign.
Ivanderbar! 2 Apr, 2022 @ 12:00pm
First of all, a big F*CK YOU for cooking my brain on parts 4 and 6. The former took me almost two hours to solve and the latter - specifically the puzzle before GLaDOS - almost got me searching for a walkthrough until I managed to figure it out. It looked simple but it wasn't!

Secondly, my compliments to this excellent series! I'm new to community-made test chambers / maps and this is so far the hardest I've come across. I've just finished the Reconstruction series too and - even if it's been almost nine years since its release - I hope it gets a continuation one way or another.

Cheers!

Love the ending so much! That the ending is the same exact place you begin in the first map, but now you have a portal gun to follow to red arrow...... I love it!!
Vroooooom 10 Jul, 2019 @ 12:02pm
Tf was that ending.
Just let me walk outside at least.
imlegos 4 Jun, 2019 @ 11:42pm
I almost thought it was ending with a closed loop.

Wolffman109 21 Mar, 2017 @ 4:05pm
Hey, I'm working on a mod idea to send to the Portal Stories: Mel team (NOT VR!) and I'd love to send it to you shanks (term from Maze Runner, don't ask me what it means, I have no idea.) once it's done.:steamhappy:
GrtWhtBuf 6 Mar, 2017 @ 1:50pm
Thanks for building LW!

Nice logical chambers until the boss chamber. I hate timed chambers, but with a bit of F6/F7 I got through it. Thanks to the hints from the previous commentors!

Nice work. Damn suprise turrets at the end got me.
Endergamer 7 Oct, 2016 @ 9:32pm
Nice work Lonewolf2056! Even though they were hard test chambers, they were still fun to play!

Can any of you tell me how you walk on the window ledge?
Spaceminnow 9 Mar, 2016 @ 7:30pm
I like the puzzle idea . Very good. I just didn't like losing so many campanion cubes. When I got to the end and had to throw in another companion cube in the furnace... :P So many companion cubes sacrificed to figure this out. When the nero toxin killed my character I like the start point ,but I didn't like throwing another companion cube in :P I had to stop...
ThePlayaJam 8 Mar, 2016 @ 10:32pm
OK! This is how to beat glados. for the first bomb: Simply just fling it at her with no emancipation grids. Second bomb. Go to the other side and fling it from the angled panel. for the third bomb. go to the side with the angled panel and crouch-fling over the emancipation grid and then use the portals to fling the bomb to glados. for the fourth bomb. Walk to the angled panel side and on the bomb side there should be a panel on the ceiling. Put a blue portal on the ground and a orange portal on the panel. then move the orange portal to where the bombs come out and go through the orange portal. then put the blue portal on the angled panel and BAM! You have just beaten glados.
Komodo 18 Feb, 2016 @ 3:43pm
Amazing map series. Unfortunatly, I actually got stuck behind the final furnace opening and had to just wait untill the neurotoxin killed me.
Captain Epsilon 18 Jan, 2016 @ 5:36pm
This was a great map series, some genuinely mind-bending puzzles with clever but fair solutions. What a shame about the ending though.

In the fight with Glados, I manged to hit her once from the near wall, once from the far (angled) wall. But even after several times juggling the last bomb over the emancipation grid and sending it flying from the angled wall again, the bomb just seems to....miss. I'm sure that's the right thing to do, but it just won't work. That phase isn't in older versions of the map, and so I couldn't even find a walkthorugh to confirm it. It was a shame after getting through the whole map on my own, to then have to watch the ending on youtube.

Great otherwise, though.

Thanks for the Dilapidation map series.

Thanks for the awesome maps LoneWolf!!!

Great map series. It had awesome puzzles and action. Also the final boss was amazing! :p2cube:
IdleDealer 29 Jul, 2015 @ 12:35pm
Amazing series, the design of the levels is awesome and puzzles are hard (especially part 4 - took me few hours to solve that ending). Great job LoneWolf :)
Suthro 18 Jul, 2015 @ 9:03am
Incredibly well-made series, these are some amazing puzzles that had me thinking very, very hard. Excellent boss battle as well, it was fun figuring out the ways to connect a portal with the far wall to hit her! Awesome series, can't wait to play Reconstruction next! :p2chell:
RedFive 7 May, 2015 @ 8:29pm
Why is the solution video private? I cannot figure out how to finish off Glados, and it's really frustrating. I can't get the third bomb to hit her, and I just want to see how to do it. Can you post a solution video that isn't private?
Ani 11 Apr, 2015 @ 12:23am
Seconding Yugh. Impossible without noclip.
LoneWolf2056  [author] 19 Mar, 2015 @ 9:06am
@RBTOAB Thanks very much, glad you liked it, looking back, these maps are pretty awful xD I have improved so much since I made them, also Portal Stories had to be delayed slighty :( But its for the best, so we can make it as awesome as possible :)
captainj 18 Mar, 2015 @ 10:26pm
PS Looking forward to the end of this month :)
captainj 18 Mar, 2015 @ 10:13pm
LoneWolf I have to express my gratitude to you for providing hours of enjoyment and frustrated torture. I had to quit on part 4 a few nights with thoughts of how to solve the darn thing haunting my dreams, until I did. Absolutely awesome puzzle. I am giving up part 6 because the quick moves thing just doesn't do it for me. Knowing how to solve but not being able to execute fast and precise enough is a thing about Portal that makes it boring. That point aside, still your maps are freaking amazing. Thanks to people like you, Portal is the game that keeps on giving. Thanks for the brain workouts.
Yuhg 8 Jan, 2015 @ 6:55am
Hmm, well call me stupid but I have a block on part 6.
LoneWolf your solution vid on YouTube says it's private and the other solutions online show a completely different setup with the button for the bombs being behind a fizzle screen and not just on the ground at the bottom of the bomb tube, making it impossible to complete in the obvious way (and the way it is done in one vid)
I have tried another method but it's impossible to hit the angled wall on the opposite side as the barriers are too high and the jump doesn't go high enough and is obscured by Glados. Did you change this recently? Is there in fact a solution now it's changed?
Excellent series up to this point but now utterly frustrating :(
not-paradiser 16 Aug, 2014 @ 10:11pm
masterpiece
TS_Mind_Swept 25 Jul, 2014 @ 9:42pm
Although i think it was really cool that you animated GLaDOS and made her interactive, most ppl just stick her in and she doesn't even have a colision model. XD
TS_Mind_Swept 25 Jul, 2014 @ 9:34pm
AAHH! i wanted to liszten to that whole song! >:s i did get stuck in the pit area at first, but then i watched the video and before he passed that part i had an idea. I tried it and it worked! :D I finished the video after i was done with the level and he did taht part a little differently, but it was a similar idea. The only thing i didn't like was the turrets, that was cheap. >:s but then i passed them and stuck them all in the corners (like i usually try to do) and it didn't let me out so even though i didn't want to, i tried killing them and then it let me through. 8/10

Just a side note for the series though, on the wide emansapation grills, the edges are all streached and it looks dumm. There are textures in hammer for the sides and center for the wide grills so the edgs don't look all streached out like they do here, you may want to look into that.

@Pacoiones thanks for the feedback, just to let you know, Portal Stories: Mel should hopefully be on greenlight soon, when it is, please vote for us xD
dragondrugs 23 Jul, 2014 @ 7:51am
I just played through and I feel terribly stupid. I played all the way without needing to cheat a single time, but then I got to the companion cube (one of the easiest, to be honest) and I had to cheat because I didn't understand what I had to do. Anyway, this was by far my favorite custom mappack.

On a side note: I'm looking forward to portal stories: mel, I saw it a while ago but I didn't know you were developing it too. Good luck with that, and thank you for the maps.
Nat 18 Jul, 2014 @ 2:24pm
Oh man, these tests were really intense. Like a few others, test 4 was the only one I cheated on by watching the instruction video, but only in the beginning and the end. And that GLaDOS fight? Juggling that last bomb was the hardest part for someone who keeps forgetting which portal the bomb came out of . I'm glad I didn't cheat on this one, because solving the pit part made me feel proud of myself. dick move with the turrets though
LoneWolf2056  [author] 16 Jul, 2014 @ 11:07am
@jjjlenn, thanks, and im glad you enjoyed the series. Yea the puzzle room in this level is quite tricky. Look out for the free to play Mod im working on with a team called Portal Stories Mel, we will be going public on greenlight soon.
jjjlenn 14 Jul, 2014 @ 3:34pm
Loved this puzzle and the entire series. I had a few cheats along the way but never looked at solutions beyond the nut i couldn't crack. This last one i just couldn't figure out how to cross the pit, the rest was easy. Sometimes i think the physics of different versions (I play the pc version) makes a fairly big difference. i see walk-throughs and people's relatively short jumps through portals causes way more momentum than mine. Maybe its just me. It didn't seem like my first attempts to put a portal at the bottom of the pit and rebound through were creating enough oomph. Once i KNEW it was the way, a fair ampunt of trial and error got me across.

Thanks so much, LoneWolf. you are really increedible.
Kazitor 7 Jul, 2014 @ 1:04am
I'm quite proud of myself for not cheating at all.
