Alternate game mode for Zachtronics' Spacechem, ha.
Debris Field  [author] 19 Feb, 2018 @ 7:56am
I could probably do that (about the hydroxyl and other small groups), except then the mod will be more difficult to build with and I would have to make like 20 more shapes. I use the same ports as tinkrell modular cannons to make the atoms attach, and if I make a “chain” of atoms in, say, a methyl or ethyl group (use the correct order of OUT and IN ports, the same order as a tinkrell modular cannon), I could have a modular cannon or something.

But then I would have to make shapes with the exact arrangements of ports, and then the mod would be a bit harder to build with, less fluid, etc.

If a whole compound could do a single thing, that would definitely be added, but, sadly, I don’t think that that is possible. What a pity indeed.

My opinion, one flaw about the mod (or the game maybe) is that you cannot really make a 'compound', not even function function groups (when you put O and H together you are supposed to get the hydroxyl (-OH) group instead of plain O and H that function on their own. I mean you can't make a working TNT using benzene, nitro group and methyl group in reassembly. what a pity.

I would suggest you make Mg a white laser as if it was burnt in air/oxygen. Other metal atoms can also be lasers whose color is same as their flame test color, but it may seem somewhat less interesting if all metal atoms are lasers :(

I'm also thinking that the inert gases can be shields or drones, instead of H as shields. alkaline metals can then be made as explosives due to their high reactivity. No idea about halogens and transition metals tho, but iron, cobalt and nickel should hopefully be someting interesting because they can be attracted by magnet.

Like sulfur? The problem with my shapes is that I made them base square, you will only be able to build with 4 bonds without killing the perfect shape arrangement, so I only added the 2-bond version.

There will be considerably more realism and stuff for Compounds: Benzene Edition, I’ve made double and triple bonds and all the shapes necessary to build with. Now I just need to make the blocks file with them in it.

I also require a lot of atom ideas. Like, what, say, Magnesium would be as a block. If you (or anyone else) has any ideas, please post them here.
Vostok 1 18 Feb, 2018 @ 9:59pm
Wait a sec why am I learning Chem in REA?
nice idea tho, especially the bonding mechanism, but I do hope to see these atoms that form 5 or 6 bonds :D

Actual molecules found on neutron stars, if you know what I mean ;)
Debris Field  [author] 17 Feb, 2018 @ 10:42pm
And if you want superweapons, check out the Pinaceae, which I probably put fifty times more effort into. There’s a link in the description.
Debris Field  [author] 17 Feb, 2018 @ 10:37pm
Honestly this mod is already super rediculously overpowered with the 0 cost teleportation... pack on copper and ultra hydrogen and you have an invincible ship.

And the mod already goes against my interpretation of the design philosophy of Reassembly: build something well and it will do well. The sentinel Nuclear Option goes against the philosophy as well: put 2 on a very stupid, unarmored ship and you can kill absolutely any ship, even in tournaments. It’s just dumb, and the game gets boring quickly.

And that’s why I don’t like OP factions. Don’t expect me to make any more soon. Even though the OPness of this faction probably gave me all of its subscribers.
mipacem 17 Feb, 2018 @ 1:35pm
could you at least add a super weapon like the Tachyon Pulser or the nuke??
Debris Field  [author] 17 Feb, 2018 @ 11:54am
It is pretty strong, but I dont want to make it more overpowered than it already is
mipacem 17 Feb, 2018 @ 11:50am
considering this faction is already way stronger than the vanilla factions, why not go all the way???? it would make it more fun :steamhappy:

@gunsforguns *you're
Debris Field  [author] 17 Feb, 2018 @ 7:46am
They're pretty strong how they are... 1000 dps is quite a lot, even though it has a somewhat short range.
mipacem 16 Feb, 2018 @ 8:15pm
could you add stronger copper lasers?
mipacem 16 Feb, 2018 @ 8:14pm
great modd!

1 energy per 1 mass yaes?
Debris Field  [author] 12 Feb, 2018 @ 6:37pm
I probably should add an energy cost... oh well :P
CosmoCoo 12 Feb, 2018 @ 5:24pm
The zero-cost teleportation is rediculously overpowered, as it allows for near-instant movement across large distances, akin to a warp drive. This means exploring the entire galaxy in mere minutes, instant retreat/recovery from any combat situation, and my favorite, you get to pretend to be coldsteel the hedgehog.

Hmm... I think people had issues of this in the past... I think the problem is that I do not have any normal ports on the command module. I will definitely fix that.
redblockfox 11 Feb, 2018 @ 8:01pm

redblockfox 11 Feb, 2018 @ 8:00pm
Good to hear!

I do have a bug though, I just found out that the "Factory" cannot spawn ships because it does not have enough space. Is it because the spawner is inside [i/] the coumpound?
Debris Field  [author] 11 Feb, 2018 @ 7:54pm
Hmm That might be interesting... I Might incorporate that into the hexagonal remake that will eventually come out.
redblockfox 11 Feb, 2018 @ 7:06pm
Do you think the different elemental groups should have different abilities?
I think it would be cool if lets say, Chlorine was a power reactor, but explodes violently when broken. I have a very keen intrest in elements aswel, and I'm gald to see them brought into one of my favorite games.
Aurelie 11 Feb, 2018 @ 5:37pm
must....
PROMETHIA 11 Feb, 2018 @ 8:11am
Nvm, stacking two worked.

I like the mod, but one question I have is how do I use the ship creating pseudo-bond. I have tried several placements, each with adequate room around the end of it, but it keeps saying that there is no room to create the ship with. Where exactly do I need to put it?
Pyrite 10 Feb, 2018 @ 7:11pm
need longer bonds so I can make longer ships.
Pyrite 10 Feb, 2018 @ 6:16pm
noice

GOD SOMEONE MAKE THE ETERNAL FLEET THAT IS NOT A RIP OFF IS THAT HARD TO ASK FOR?
Icemourn 10 Feb, 2018 @ 11:54am
I appreciate the reply, I really liked the insight into your design process for the mod!

I realize atoms in organic molecules are never really in neat formations, unlike salt crystals. The closest organic molecules get to neat geometric structures are benzene rings, but these are mostly carbon. I can only imagine the difficulty in implementing double and triple bonds while maintaining an orderly 2D representation. Design is hard!

I loved the references to radioactive decay and ionic bonding.

I can only think of adding electronegative hydrogen atoms (bonded to oxygen or nitrogen) repelling projectiles as point defense. Maybe this could be implemented as a repulsor beam, perhaps with a bit of damage?

Anywho, this is a great mod! :D
Debris Field  [author] 8 Feb, 2018 @ 10:41pm
I wanted to make the atoms look somewhat spherical, and so I made them like they are, which makes it only really possible to do 90 degrees, but during development I was kind of thinking about different angles. But with different angles, the atoms might not line up in a satisfactory way, and I was trying to avoid that. And with ports on different sides it became difficult to make all the scales of the atoms have all of the port arrangements. For example, look at the oxygen part: scale it up, and the ports change from 90 degrees to a straight line. I don’t want to make, like, 5 or six block scales with different port arrangements for completeness for each column of the periodic table, that would take a while...
And for curved bonds? I actually should try that...

Hopefully I answered your question adequately.
And, of course, is there anything you would like to see be added to the mod?
Icemourn 8 Feb, 2018 @ 12:01am
This is amazing, I've always wondered how to best challenge players with ship construction. I imagine making the bonds not 90 degrees would've been difficult. Have you considered making bent and (2D) tetrahedral bonds for the mod during development?
Tsuna 7 Feb, 2018 @ 8:19pm
reds are pretty easy as long as you don't try to rejoin a fork
8bit_Slime 4 Feb, 2018 @ 7:25am
i still dont like em though.
8bit_Slime 4 Feb, 2018 @ 7:25am
cant deny that
Debris Field  [author] 3 Feb, 2018 @ 8:01am
The Crystalline are rather easy to build with once you practice building with them. Just not many people practice building with them...
8bit_Slime 3 Feb, 2018 @ 7:40am
i will be sticking to my cubes thankyou very much
8bit_Slime 3 Feb, 2018 @ 7:40am
wha.. what.. what do you mean the crystaline are a nightmare i mean there worse than the reds for god sakes.
Cherryuwu 2 Feb, 2018 @ 2:56pm
"Haha, you thought the crystalline were hard to build with!"
They arent, also cool mod, like the clever names and work put in.
