Compounds

Description
Haha, you thought the crystalline were hard to build with!

Introducing...

The Compounds!

These guys are ridiculously enlarged molecular structures with enormous potential energy coiled up in their bonds.

Some interesting things:

--All atoms in this mod actually bond (normally) in the same ways (Oxygen has two ports, Hydrogen has 1, etc.).

--Quantum tunneling allows these guys to vanish in space and time and come back in an instant! (Press "z")

--These guys are pretty overpowered...

--Yup, they look like very inaccurate images from a classic chemistry textbook. In reality, there are almost no right angles between atoms, and there are no sticks bonding atoms, and atoms are smaller than a wavelength of visible light, in other words are colorless.

I will be adding more ships and atoms to build with in the future.

It's here! Compounds (Benzene edition) is out! https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1315463156

This was a custom shape experiment that turned into a faction. I used WEAPON_OUT and IN ports to make them attach how they do.

This is my second modded faction, and I couldn’t have made it without the Reassembly Discord (it is fun to lurk). If you want to join, here’s the link: https://discord.gg/BM4eeqS

A link to my other mod that is slightly less hard to build with: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1255302219

Credit to Theodore Gray for making three books (Elements, Molecules, and Reactions) that told me all about the atoms that make up this world. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to make this mod well.

Aaand the popularity goes downhill... it had a good run. Thank you guys for subscribing to my strange mod.

This mod has many more ships, but these are the ones I want to show.

If you want the shapes.lua file for this mod, message me on discord (My name is Debris) and I will send it over. You may make a mod using it, but be sure to credit me in its discription. And yes, they can attach to normal blocks.

The comments section is always open for constructive criticism, bug reports, suggestions, and other things.

Alternate game mode for Zachtronics' Spacechem, ha.

I could probably do that (about the hydroxyl and other small groups), except then the mod will be more difficult to build with and I would have to make like 20 more shapes. I use the same ports as tinkrell modular cannons to make the atoms attach, and if I make a “chain” of atoms in, say, a methyl or ethyl group (use the correct order of OUT and IN ports, the same order as a tinkrell modular cannon), I could have a modular cannon or something.

But then I would have to make shapes with the exact arrangements of ports, and then the mod would be a bit harder to build with, less fluid, etc.

If a whole compound could do a single thing, that would definitely be added, but, sadly, I don’t think that that is possible. What a pity indeed.

My opinion, one flaw about the mod (or the game maybe) is that you cannot really make a 'compound', not even function function groups (when you put O and H together you are supposed to get the hydroxyl (-OH) group instead of plain O and H that function on their own. I mean you can't make a working TNT using benzene, nitro group and methyl group in reassembly. what a pity.

I would suggest you make Mg a white laser as if it was burnt in air/oxygen. Other metal atoms can also be lasers whose color is same as their flame test color, but it may seem somewhat less interesting if all metal atoms are lasers :(

I'm also thinking that the inert gases can be shields or drones, instead of H as shields. alkaline metals can then be made as explosives due to their high reactivity. No idea about halogens and transition metals tho, but iron, cobalt and nickel should hopefully be someting interesting because they can be attracted by magnet.

Like sulfur? The problem with my shapes is that I made them base square, you will only be able to build with 4 bonds without killing the perfect shape arrangement, so I only added the 2-bond version.

There will be considerably more realism and stuff for Compounds: Benzene Edition, I’ve made double and triple bonds and all the shapes necessary to build with. Now I just need to make the blocks file with them in it.

I also require a lot of atom ideas. Like, what, say, Magnesium would be as a block. If you (or anyone else) has any ideas, please post them here.

Wait a sec why am I learning Chem in REA?
nice idea tho, especially the bonding mechanism, but I do hope to see these atoms that form 5 or 6 bonds :D

Actual molecules found on neutron stars, if you know what I mean ;)

And if you want superweapons, check out the Pinaceae, which I probably put fifty times more effort into. There’s a link in the description.

Honestly this mod is already super rediculously overpowered with the 0 cost teleportation... pack on copper and ultra hydrogen and you have an invincible ship.

And the mod already goes against my interpretation of the design philosophy of Reassembly: build something well and it will do well. The sentinel Nuclear Option goes against the philosophy as well: put 2 on a very stupid, unarmored ship and you can kill absolutely any ship, even in tournaments. It’s just dumb, and the game gets boring quickly.

And that’s why I don’t like OP factions. Don’t expect me to make any more soon. Even though the OPness of this faction probably gave me all of its subscribers.
