Not sure if you're still working on this mod but i had an idea to make the fool class based off of the kingsdom mode for DD2 where you got basic mercenaries.

I like the idea of this mod. It would be nice disabling the stagecoach and add a quest type "Rescue": instead of random room, the objective of the mission is find and rescue one or more heroes in the fartest room (like boss spawn room). Or something like, when you go to all rooms, you gain a total scout, finding the secret room with the hero. That would change a lot the gameplay. Gaining a hero on killing bosses would be nice idea too.

there's been some logistical issues that's resulted in this mod being iced for the time being, however a sister series of mods have been in the works that's kinda been taking my attention. I dont have an ETA for release on them yet but I do hope to return to this project some day to look into cleaning up some of its quirks, including the generic filler characters being still lacking art.

This is such a great idea for a mod. Shame it's taking so long to develop and doesn't cover modded heroes :( Very cool concept though.

Prisoners spawn in "secret" rooms. You can only locate them via scouting in quests. Once I got a 1.0 version of this mod out I plan to most likely have a "map" provisional item you can buy for an increased scouting chance, and/or give the villager NPCs really good scouting trinkets.

Right, yeah they are spawning as Fools in the stagecoach, though i haven't really come across a prisoner yet. Could you please let me know how they spawn exactly? Thanks in advance :winter2019happybulb:

Hiya, so the stagecoach still populates for two reasons.

The first and foremost being the game actually will crash if the stagecoach is completely empty. I believe there's a way to fully disable it by making it unclickable in the UI but I instead opted for the second aspect which is:

Should your starting roster die the game basically soft locks. I DO plan to some day release a version of this mod where that's the case and its a stronger challenge, but for now I'm opting to keep the "villager"/"Fool" characters around in this iteration of the mod.

Side note but if regular heroes *ARE* spawning let me know, it might just be a case of your load order needs this mod at the very top, but if not then I'd have to patch it.

This mod is not fully abandoned yet but its still sitting on the shelf for another project I've been doing. Chances are when that mod releases this one will start getting updates again!

Hey i'm trying to use this mod but it's sort of bugged i think? The stagecoach is still fully operational and i thought it would be disabled, leaving the only option to build up your party from the imprisoned heroes. That seems not to be the case though :/

ah, yeah that hero is currently in a very placeholder stage which is why they're not included in any major descriptions. Fools will be fully renamed, given their own art, lore descriptions, trinket sets, and audio in time, albeit when that happens is fully up to when i finally get a quiet week to work on personal projects.

@Katt, hang on a second. I just had one of Clair's fools show up and now I think I get what's going on. I didn't realize that your mod also added a hero named The Fool. It doesn't seem like there is a conflict, I was just confused by the similar name.

It might help if made a more explicit note that this adds an additional hero. On rereading the workshop entry I can only see the line "Bug testing in the works for new hero" as the only reference to that fact.

@Katt Yes when I hire a Fool from the stage coach, the icon is of the plague doctor. The idle, combat, walking, defense, attack, affliction, and skill icons are the same as the plague doctors. The names of the skills aren't the same as any hero I recognize; poisoned dart, dart volley, hilt bash, jab, battlefield medicine, flute practice, and power strike.

I have no idea where that comes from. It also only has three camping skills; encourage, wound care, and pep talk.

@Telmach, ah damn, i was afraid this would happen, Clair and I talked about that potentially coming up and i was going to patch re-name fools to "villagers" so there wouldnt be any compatibility issues.

To clarify, do you mean Clair's hero is spawning in with this mod's skillsets and thus breaking it?

I'm trying to use your mod for a new play through to earn the OG heros, but I'm having an issue with one of the modded classes The Fool. It has the art assets of the plague doctor and the abilities don't match what is stated in the page. Are there any known compatability issuse with this mod and The Fool hero mod?

I'm continuing testing for this mod, I've noted a bug in which prison cells are no longer spawning in every mission, which they're set to do right now.

So for anyone wondering, no, you're not ungodly unlucky, the scripts are just bugged out rn. I pushed out a simple update today and hopefully that'll fix it, but I'll keep notes here.

I went ahead and pushed out an update for this mod and all of its patches. Did a test run and everything seems to be working fine.

If anyone continues having issue please post a load order of your mod config and be sure your deck system is enabled in game settings (it is enabled by default so it would only be off if you messed with it.)

This mod is still sitting on the shelf, but was merely updated as a means to hopefully fix any issues people have been reporting.

This mod already does that fluffy. If its only working for you after you reapplied the same changes made, chances are you merely had another mod overwriting it.

Ok guys I think I found an easy way to disable vanilla heroes from spawning:
Simply go to your Steamapps/DD folder --> heroes and open each "heroname".info with a texteditor and edit the last 2 entries of the last line to
".number_of_cards_in_deck 0 .card_chance 0.0"
(probably have to have the deckthingy turned on in the options)

Everything worked fine until i unlocked districts. now the vanilla classes are spawning again in the stagecoach :(

Everything is awesome except that fool class.I want to have some plague doctors too :( Once I deactivated mode all my heroes from this mode are gone with their trinket.Thats kinda heartbreaking tho

Its okay! There's a lot going on in my life right now so unfortunately DD modding has been in the back of my head lately, I don't think this mod is dead but it will be some time until its both brought back up to speed and also gets new content

@dreddangel this hasn't been updated since the butcher's DLC, so yes its probably not working right now, as mentioned previously this mod is pretty much shelved and I currently do not have plans to work on it again any time soon.

I noticed some mods might randomly modify files they don't need to. My advice is go to your steam workshop file for darkest dungeon (The pathway is going to be something like "steamapps\workshop\content\262060"). And from there use the search function to find the "abomination.info" file, and it'll point you towards every mod that is changing that file.

@Listerx, go into their config file(ip_fool.info.darkest) and change "is_generation_enabled true" to "is_generation_enabled false".

@Mynameactually This is most likely happening due to another mod overwriting abom's info file, you'll have to mess around with your mod config to fix it, however chances are the two mods will be incompatible and require patchwork

Is there a way to set modded heroes to only show up in the prisons? I remember toying with it in the past, I believe I just remove the stage coach line from their file.

Oh, that's cool man, I would judge the mod is nearly perfect as is. Shelve it for as long as you need to, man...last thing the world needs is another wandering boss around spreading misery when we already got plenty of that going.

@Jonny, The TLDR is that's a filler hero that has yet to be fully updated. Aside from their general stats in need of tweaking they lack the trinket sets which are vital to being used properly.

On a side note its worth stating this mod is currently sitting on the shelf until further notice. I'm not actively modding in Darkest Dungeon atm and most likely won't pick up this project again until I can find an artist to help out with the project.

I would not worry about disabling Town Events if you ever manage to figure it out for vanilla recruit spawns, as once you download enough class mods, the sheer volume of Town Events relating to those (adding a huge amount to the total number of overall Events) will drive the probability of a vanilla spawn Event down so much that it will, bascially, function the same as stragiht-up disabling them :isa:

Is there a small guide to how to add modded heroes ourselves to the imprisoned heroes array so we can also find them?

Then you don't have to worry about modded heroes compabilities, as people can do it themselves.

Just a small note on where in the files to add the heroes or so would be great!

Update for the new hero is live. Trinkets will be in the works later down the line however art and audio are most likely going to be rather far down the line, for now they're using PD's assets as a placeholder.

The update was pushed out today just as an FYI. The new hero isn't ready yet so antiquarians will still be spawning in the stagecoach for now.

I'm hoping to push out a rough draft of the new hero tomorrow and at that point I'll need beta testers for balance and finding any potiental bugs. I'll post more info on that when the new hero is up.

To give an update the college semster has been wrapped up for me, so I'll be able to start looking into a CoM update alongside releasing a rough draft of the filler hero i was previously mentioning to take up the stage coach slot. Expect a release end of week at latest
