However, unlike the Petra, which limits the desert food yield to the singular city that it's in, Mesa Verde provides it to ALL desert tiles for your Civ, which is much more powerful than the Petra, but in that sense also a MUCH better investment. I think a really good compromise would be to not have it as an option so early in the game, perhaps move it from Trapping to Archaeology (with a relative Production requirement increase), just as an idea from that Roosevelt quote up there.
@DoctuhD, as to Petra, it would be difficult for the Player to get both unless the AI's are inert, Wonderly speaking. The AI's build wonders too.
