this makes it so the games crashes as soon as I open it

I'm subscribed to everything in "4onen's AwSW Utilities" and for some reason the MODS button in bottom left is not showing up and the game is operating as if in vanilla (except for crashes when I load certain pre-existing game states). How do I get that MODS button to appear?
Shikogo 15 May, 2022 @ 3:25am
I seem to be unable to run any mods. The mod buttons show up, but no mods will actually load, or in the rare case they do, the game freezes upon trying to start a new game. The game also freezes when I click the "add game from workshop" button. I really want to play some mods, some help would be highly appreciated. I'm on Windows btw.

Since my issue is that I have the mod tools downloaded by it won't show up when I start up the game.

Does anyone know if the mod workshop supports apple computers, and if not does anyone if they eventually will be supported. Thank you

I see. I had a minor suspicion as much when I read up a bit on the forums and elsewhere, though I didn't want to assume since my knowledge in this area is incomplete. The good news is that the mods seem to be running fine when the game is processed through Proton. I am still testing things out, but the Adine and Naomi mods are running well as can be expected, if a little slower in certain loading sections, but nothing to really worry about in depth.

Anyway, it may be worthy of a mention here on this toolset to have the game run through Steam Proton in case anyone else asks this question again. Maybe put it in some Q&A for such a purpose.

The AwSW Workshop only supports Windows at the moment, though the modtools itself and mods can be installed manually, and they should work as intended afterwards.

This is due to workshop support needing to be compiled and loading using C to interface with Steam, and when an attempt was made to support Linux, there were issues with porting the structures required.

Update: I decided to try one last ditch effort to see if this effort would have some effect.

It would seem utilizing Steam Proton did the trick, though I had to verify the files first to redownload some files. Once that was done, I started the game, and lo and behold, I see the mods displayed in the lower left corner. Testing is still ongoing, but I'll keep you posted as it goes on.

As far as I can tell, the Workshop works well with Ubuntu 18.04 when utilizing it for other games, be they native or played through Steam Proton, but for whatever reason the mods here don't seem to activate even when installed. I am honestly considering trying to install this game on a virtual box to see if I could get it to work that way as a last resort, though I would prefer to have things solved here first if possible.

The mods install just fine as said, but they do not seem to activate, and the reasons for such elude me. Thus I come here seeking some help with regards to this matter. If you have any instructions I can follow to troubleshoot and solve this issue, it would be appreciated. If needed, I can provide error logs, provided you can point me in a direction where they might exist, along with whatever other information that may be needed. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Question, will this addon work for Linux based OSes/Distros, such as Ubuntu 18.04 for instance? The last time I have tried to play with a few mods for the game, the mod section at the bottom left portion of the screen on the main menu did not appear. I've have attempt to troubleshoot the issue myself using some instructions from one of the mod creators here to no avail, which included uninstalling all addons and doing a clean reinstall of the game itself to make sure things worked alright.

Please create a discussion in the workshop forum, hopefully I'll be able to help you there. You'll need to post the error you're getting as well as your OS

hello it keeps showing errors and it wont even let me into that game
Blue  [author] 17 Jul, 2019 @ 10:01am
Hi, to use the modtools on a Mac, you'll have to use the Github version, as the Workshop version doesn't support Macs. It can be downloaded here: https://github.com/AWSW-Modding/AWSW-Modtools

Hi, I dont know if there is something wrong with my game but I cant get the mods button to show up on the menu. I'm on mac btw

The below issue should be fixed, if it doesn't please close and reopen Steam so it can see the update. If it still doesn't work, say hi!
Blue  [author] 6 Feb, 2019 @ 11:35am
I've noted the issue and will try to fix it as soon as possible. At the moment, the Steam ingame downloader crashes though I should be able to fix it tomorrow or the day after. Sorry for the inconvenience^^

folks I don't know what happened to modtools but when I try to access to the mods menu from the game, it crashes. I removed all my other mods to be sure, but it's modtools which have problems.
Petrus249 22 Dec, 2018 @ 10:56am
That's good to hear. Eventhough as I said: This was quite minor bug in the end :P
EvilChaosKnight 22 Dec, 2018 @ 9:36am
We sorted it all out in the end. Let's say that certain symbols in the description appear fine in the browser or Steam client but make game itself cry.
Blue  [author] 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:54am
I believe this is fixed now
Petrus249 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:46am
Yes. The mods does work normally.

The error I mentioned will occur if you attempt to download either of those two mods from ingame mods screen and not from the online workshop.
Blue  [author] 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:42am
Does it work if you use the online workshop rather than ingame to subscribe?
Petrus249 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:40am
I have it already installed. The error occurs whenver you try to pick the mod and download it. There just does not appear any "download" option to them.
Blue  [author] 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:28am
Is the error that you need to have the Chaos Core mod installed as well? If so, then you need to install that before you can use Savior, A Solitary Mind or Not-so-Tragic Hero. The link can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1405536097&searchtext= . If not, I'd ask in the respective mod workshop threads.
Petrus249 22 Dec, 2018 @ 7:24am
Hello, I got some kind of odd bug when I attempt to open through "mods" and then "Add more Mods from workshop" buttons. Everytime I pick "Savior" or "A Solitary Mind" mod from the list, I get an exception. If I choose to ingore it, it will launch the game without the mods.

This does not happen on any other mods though.

Since I always download mods outside the game, this isn't very critical error but it is quite strange to say at least and I thought I should tell you about it.

alright thanks for the help
Blue  [author] 5 Apr, 2018 @ 11:32am
I advise you look at the mods of others to see how they do it. You can do this by subscribing to mods in Steam and looking at the source code in the "game/mods" folder in your AwSW install. Alternatively, you can look at the source code for Github mods [github.com] which can be found by swapping branch to the corresponding mod branch.

The documentation on Ren'py can be found here: https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/
You'll want to consult this for any additive content (the main bulk of your mod)

Documentation on connecting your new content to the rest of the game can be found here: https://scrlys.github.io/AWSW-Modtools/writing_mods.html
This is probably out of date at this point.

Custom resources can be found here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/discussions/18446744073709551615/1470841715962458556/?appid=571880
You'll want this for adding backgrounds/music to your mods.

If you need help, I can be found on the unofficial Discord fanserver [discord.gg], I'm much more active and likely to read messages there quickly. My Discord tag is Blue#3287.

well i ment the tools to make the mods themselfs, because im not seeing a mod maker in any of the folders
Blue  [author] 5 Apr, 2018 @ 7:05am
To install the Steam modtools, you need to be subscribed to at least one mod through the web browser. Simply subscribing to this item in particular will not install the modtools. Once installed, other mods can either be installed through the web browser or ingame through the mods menu
Scepkight 4 Apr, 2018 @ 8:57pm
where do i open up the mod tools?
