Seems like it'll need an update for 3.9, as if you take the new tradition, which expands the acceptable range, it overwrites the default, which this mod makes no limit.

I wonder if this author is aware that the mod allows subjects to rival their overlords. This causes a closed border issue every time you subjugate someone by force, which really kills Overlord gameplay. A shame, really because this mod was the only way I could meet my militarist faction's rivalry demand.

@LordLony ty. Your mod seems to get caught by the same issue described above I think and I still can't rival anyone other than vanilla behaviour.

Following a lengthy struggle with this mod's seeming inability to work, I have determined the cause of the problem to be a conflict with another mod overwriting the same game_rules section. To my knowledge, overwriting game_rules is fundamentally different to overwriting defines in that rearranging the load order is insufficient to solve compatibility issues. Simply put, if any mod that overwrites the is_valid_rival is loaded alongside this one, it becomes impossible to rival anyone.

As of known incompatible mods, I have identified three of them: ! The Merger of Rules 3.3, Expanded Diplomacy and Espionage and Additional Vanilla Buildings 3.3.4 Patch. Since these are all popular and useful mods, the fact that they conflict with Rival Just Anyone is greatly concerning. To make matters worse, a potential patch solving the conflict between Rival Just Anyone and the above mentioned mods would be prone to becoming outdated due to the need to overwrite those mods' game_rules files.

Hai. Is there any way you can make this mod allow Driven Assimilators to mark rivals? I find it kinda dumb that I can't rival a fellow machine empire, or some purifier empire next door.

Now also ignores all the restrictions from Federations (bad relations, envoys etc.)

It still "works" as for the original scope of the mod. Which currently is the change to allow any relative power to rival (pathetic to overwhelming).

But it seems they added more checks to rivalry now like envoys, bad relations etc.
I thought this mod was safe, but looks like I need to figure out where they have hidden all these checks.

This mod works for me. Just need terrible relations or a envoy harming relations. I just rivaled 3 pathetic level exterminators who hated me anyways.

@ Evil_Lord_Proteus As far as the Casus Belli thing, Since the Federations release I've noticed that if a galactic focus has been set where you force open all borders to handle a crisis it will disable your ability to go to war until the "threat" is dealt with. I had this occuring in my recent no mods playthrough and can confirm its definitely not from this mod.

Odd. Must be some other strange factor. I am actually encountering other strange behaviours in the game, such as certain Megastructures not being buildable despite all criteria being met, like the Dyson Sphere.
