Just built one on my starter planet. Looks nice, won't move it has no PPU and appears to need double the CPU that it has. I'll a reworkded version after I scrap this thing.

I'm new to this game and I started with this hv. After some time, something exploded. I checked the P menu, it says the generator is missing. What did I do wrong?

Hi, jrandall, I created the Scarab-HL2 as a version 1.2/CPU/Volume compliant version of the HL1 after realizing what great potential it had as a mining/salvaging companion HV. Let me know if there is anything I need to do credit-wise. This is one of the best-looking HVs on the workshop, which is why I tried to not really change the appearance at all!

I usually just rip out the cargo boxes on this HV and roll around like that until it goes T2. Then it's a dedicated salvage HV.

I post this just so everyone is aware, somewhere between alpha 9 and alpha12, on official servers, the CPU changes have now made this ship over in CPU. This was one of my favorite starter ships, so just wanted to let everyone know.

theres one thing I found, if your going to park this and get out while letting ti idle make sure the pads touch down, even with the thrusters off it will float and down every little angle or hill. shut everything down after landing, ok, start the generator to make something...watch out it clears the ground on the genrator alone, and without the thrusters on it floats away and crashes. tried that on me with me in it twice... saved it both times getting the thrusters back online quick.

modifed the ship and made it look a little more sturdy, uploaded a screenie to my steam screenshots take a look and see what you think of it now.

been doing some looking and measureing, this qhole thig of stuff right out in the open must go, and without Trading as an option half these cargo containers can too, then some armor to cover things...sounds like a plan. for some reason cant shut down turrets, no matter what. o it manually and the second you check somewhere else its back on. also even manually turning everything off aexcept the generator it has a low rate of 19% power usage, so guessing thats the fridges/turrets and stuff that all run together without shut downs.

got mine built, now time for some modding..lol you made a great little freiughter ehre.....with no place to trade to. and with all that cargo room theres no armor unit, that'll be added first, but overall nice design for a starter ship.

This is great except for a minor quibble: this hv has HEAVY roll issues. By extending the hover engines out by one single block on each side I managed to correct the roll quite a lot. Adding a third hover engine to the middle or using the heavier hover engines made it so stable it can climb mountains sideways without flipping.

@Arsraea, Looks great!. That is so modified (interior etc). If i were to nit pick (and the original had the same problem) is in the base metal textures. Something I have learned recently is to try to align the seams so they line up when you can, use the blank version texture when they can't, or something else that could maybe work like the page two metal texture or other texture. But, it looks great as is. I like the interior as well. Excellent job! When you feel it is ready, post it and let me know. I will get a link added. Thanks!!!

I've checked this thing out and it's probably the best cargo HV I've ever seen! Handling is superb and the capacity is plentiful! To top it all off, it looks sleek as hell too.

@Lars922, Somday I will make a SV with similar storage stats and size. As it is, when I released this HV it got rating bombed to death and has never recovered really. So I got a bit discouraged on making anything like it again. I haven't a clue as to why either. My current project is a new small starter CV, after that I may revist a storage SV. Thanks for the comment.
