Does this have functionality with Events and Decisions?
JesseL 9 May, 2016 @ 1:05pm
Also Baal Worship or something like that would be more appropriate for Carthage.
JesseL 9 May, 2016 @ 1:03pm
Just a suggestion but the religion name Asatru, Odenism, Norse Mythology, or even Paganism would be more appropriate for Denmark, Sweden, and maybe Germany.

Hey @Walker Great news! Had a bit of unexpected time and it worked! After the edits below I could found Kanoh'hon'io and it became my state religion in the religion panel. Even made the nice little Native American religion sound effect. Guess that was a good hunch. Two possible next steps now:

A) Kindly ask JFD to consider incorporating the Calypso religions into an upcoming update, following the steps below. Wait until then.
OR
B) Follow the steps below for yourself on your local copy of JFD's mod. Bit of work and might have to use your best judgement to decide which JFD religion themes to add my mods' religions to, but probably quicker than the first option. Of course we can't redistribute a modded version of JFD's mod without express permission, but if it's just for you then that isn't an issue.
Calypso  [author] 18 Jan, 2015 @ 9:06pm
@Walker Well OK. I'm in a bit of a bind for time in the near future so take a stab at it if you're up for it. I'd try this:

1) Open up that Religions.sql in the directory I stated before (some prefer special editing programs; I use Notepad)
2) Commented in with the double dashes are two sections: "Religions" and "CivilizationsCultureGroups". They look very similar and I haven't figured out the functional difference between them, but we're going to edit both to be safe. Find the "-- Native Americans" heading in both.

(Rest below...)
Calypso  [author] 18 Jan, 2015 @ 9:05pm
(Broken up due to 1000 character limit)

3) You'll see UPDATE, SET, and WHERE specifying how this SQL table arranged. SET is specifying a JFD Religion Theme for a Native American type of religion for those specified in WHERE. It's by inclusion into that theme that I think JFD's mod recognizes religions. At the end of the update list where you see 'RELIGION_SGAANAANG', add another comma, a space, and enter 'RELIGION_CALYPSO_IROQUOISANIMISM'. The single quotes are important, just make it look like the others in the list.
4) Double check you've added 'RELIGION_CALYPSO_IROQUOISANIMISM' to both the Religions (top) and CivilizationsCultureGroups (bottom) sections of the file.
5) Save it. Test it in game. See if you can correctly pick my mod's Kanoh'hon'io as your state religion and everything else works as you'd expect.

With any luck that will work. I'll give it a shot when I can, but if you get to it first I'd appreciate hearing how you did with it.
Walker 18 Jan, 2015 @ 2:35pm
@ Calypso YES YES! for joy! I hope your hunch is correct! I can test it if you want, you know ;)
Calypso  [author] 18 Jan, 2015 @ 12:57pm
@Walker I haven't yet had the time to reduplicate what you've found in game (though I don't doubt it to be true), but after downloading JFD's Piety and Prestige from CivFanatics and doing a bit of digging I have a hunch. It looks like in JFD's Piety and Prestige (v 1)\Piety\Core\Religions there is an SQL file called "Religions.sql" that identifies which religions are to be recognized as valid by the piety system. It includes the base religions, but also a number of religions added in by various mods. I don't see any of mine identified in the file (I use a distinctive way to name ReligionType entries in the game of RELIGION_CALYPSO_RELIGIONNAME, and here I only see RELIGION_RELIGIONNAME) which may be our root cause. When I get the chance I want to see if I can edit mine into the list and see if JFD's Piety system starts to pick up on them in game.
Walker 17 Jan, 2015 @ 2:28pm
@ Claypso Thanks! I hope it's fixed, I love your mods!
Calypso  [author] 17 Jan, 2015 @ 2:08pm
@Walker Thanks for letting me know, wasn't aware of that. I haven't actually heard of that mod before, but I'll check it out to see if the issue is on the side of my mods or JFD's.
Walker 15 Jan, 2015 @ 5:10pm
@ calypso hey, none of the extended religions work with JFD's Piety and Prestige. IT wo't allow me to select it as my state religion.

Hello to all:@Calypso
I have 2.Things to say-1st=I have had your basic 1 which did the Norm.Religions and have Never played 1 match/Game without that mod TURNED ON!!!!!!
2ed=Before i had seen/added your mod i did have a mod which had sevral Religions and the mod that split 1 Religion into 3... So i am KNOW VERY HAPPY TO SAY TO YOU:
Thanks i can now have more Religions Because i was NOT willing to stop your mod that colors them to be able to have a few more Religions to pick from. You just fixed that buddy
Fenrisfil 11 Jul, 2014 @ 8:58am
I think some of these religions didn't have specific names at the time so if a name is needed I don't see why modern ones can't be used. Certainly seems to me that Norse/Germanic lot seemed to be more about following specific gods and just generally accepting other gods existed rather than specifically labelling a whole pantheon. Having said that The Aesir and the Vanir were meant to be two seperate pantheons that joined together later so perhaps it should actually be two religions: Aesir and Vanir. After all while they are linked so is Judaism, Christianity and Muslimism and they don't get group together as Monothesism or something similar.
Calypso  [author] 1 Apr, 2014 @ 4:09pm
@TheAstronomicon
Yes, that's what I initially thought. That is the name I initially used when designing and testing this mod (I might have borrowed it from Tomatekh's Historical Religion mods, I don't exactly remember). After I read a bit into it though, it seemed that the word was derived to name the c. 1970s neopagan egyptian polytheism movement. So I made it something distanced from the neopagan reemergence though, and when I read up on Menes "Memphitic mythology" of the Old Kingdom, I morphed the words together for a new name. I did the same thing to avoid naming a German revival too (Asatru/Forn Sior), though never developed a good name for that. Shame though; based on etymology, Kemetism a great name.
Miath 1 Apr, 2014 @ 3:44pm
Kemetism. Ancient Egyptian Polytheism is called Kemetism.
rebelyn 26 Dec, 2013 @ 11:26pm
Well you are a popular guy. :) I didn't realise how old the message was asking for suggestions was or I probably wouldn't have put in my .02. I really like the colored icons.
Lord_Daemonar 19 Dec, 2013 @ 3:31pm
If I can put a suggestion for Rome: the Roman Imperial Cult, which can be called "Imperium." That would be awesome.

I don't think that "paganism" would be appropriate either. Why not Asatru or Odinism?
Calypso  [author] 18 Dec, 2013 @ 9:17pm
After dealing with a broken PC these past few months, just now getting back into the loop. I guess the message here is that you can't please everybody...

@fuzzatron717
Thanks for the input. You sound like you REALLY want to get your hands on a Christianity/Islam sect mod. I've been on the fence about making that, just because I probably wouldn't use it myself. I'll keep it in mind this winter though, we'll see.

@rebelyn
Thanks for all six of your suggestions! It does seem however that you and I are approaching this mod from different ways. While I see that you dislike "-isms", I really prefer them as I'm trying to keep with the proportion of "-isms" as in vanilla Civ, ~80%. It is also key to confer "the way of" or "the philosophy of" to the etymology of many of these names. Most of the religions you listed I'm intent on keeping the same (esp. Druidism and Memphitism), but see the following note about the Germanic religion.
Calypso  [author] 18 Dec, 2013 @ 9:17pm
@Lord_Daemonar
Yeah, yeah, nobody likes "Germanicism" it seems (except me). This is by far the most common critisism. The historic outlook that I took in crafting that name is that the truth is that both the Scandinavian Germans (the Norse) and the Continental Germans worshipped Odin and his pals. That's why I went with this pan-Germanic name, even though it's the Norse worship that is so popularized. Next pick of mine is "Paganism" but I've held back, afraid it has negative connotations or is too vague (many paganisms from the view of Abrahamic religions?), but seriously, does anybody out there like "Germanicism"?
Calypso  [author] 18 Dec, 2013 @ 9:16pm
@Kanario90
Eh- It seems you and I have utterly different views of history. Considering that Roman civilization lasted 985 years and was Christian for only the last 96, or 9.7% of their total duration, to view them as Catholic is to view their religious tradition through an unnecessarily narrow spectrum. Lets also not forget that our good buddy Augustus died when Jesus was just a kid, and never fathomed what Christ or God or the Pope was. Rather the Romans carried on the legacy of Greek religion (i.e. Hellenism), absorbing their gods, myths, philosophies, and religious architecture, pausing only to add elements of their Latin and Eutruscan traditions. I would be happy to make Catholicism the default of an Italian States Civ, but there is not one. Let's not twist what the great Roman Empire really believed in
Lol.
Kanario90 13 Dec, 2013 @ 5:53am
I want change the Hellenistic of Rome by Catholicism... Roman Empire Hellenic?

Hellenic is Greek only ((lol)) ... i prefer catholics romans... any know how change this?
Lord_Daemonar 25 Nov, 2013 @ 9:50am
@Fuzzatron717: Why would Ethiopia take Coptic Christianity? Their official state religion used to be Ethiopian Orthodox, and the majority of Christians in Ethiopia are Oriental Orthodox.

@Calypso, please change the Norse religion to something more Norse and less German. The German Civ is Christian, it just feels wrong.
rebelyn 8 Nov, 2013 @ 9:47am
Another suggestion for the Andean people (and one that may venture too far out in the fictional realm for your satisfaction), Huaca (Meaning sacred site of thing) Pacha (Realm). Huaca Pacha is completely made up from the two words in their language but it sure is fun to say.

For the Germanic peoples, I agree that Paganism is the most straight forward way to go.

Lastly, Wikipedia says that Catherage got their religion from the Phoenicians and that the only surviving texts of that religion are from some dude named Sanchunathen (sp?) so you could just call it Sanchunity? That's all I got...hopefully I am not to late and you are still considering edits.
rebelyn 8 Nov, 2013 @ 9:47am
I can see why your not quite happy with all the names; too many -isms. After a cursory look on the web, may I suggest maybe making up a couple names in keeping with some of the ideals so you could drop a few of them. For example, for the Egyptions, perhaps you could call their religion Ma'at ("also spelled māt or mayet") since it seemed to be a concept as well as a goddess. What better name for a religion then 'Truth'?

For the celts, Wikipedia states that the name partially came from early Welsh dryw ("seer"). So perhaps Drywic? Or Druwidic?

Perhaps call Intism just Inti as Erebos26 has suggested. I also think that Teotl is a mysterious neat name. (cont.)

Calypso could you add in Shia islam and Coptic Christianity into one of your mods PLEASE.
Coptic Christianity could be Ethiopia and Shia could be Morroco because they were once shia under the Umayyads I would say Egypt as well but in the extended they are memphitist.
Calypso  [author] 2 Oct, 2013 @ 8:28pm
Hurrah! Over 1000 current subscribers and going strong!

(Judging anyway by the lack of complaints...)
Calypso  [author] 21 Sep, 2013 @ 10:32am
If you enjoy Lex's "Civ Names by Policy" mod as much as I do, you'll be happy to know that I've updated my religion mods to include adjective forms of my added religions.

I knew something was wrong when I saw the message "Celtic County is now known as Celtic TXT_KEY_RELIGION_DRUIDISM_ADJ Order". Now names will display correctly, e.g "Celtic Druidic Order".

Some of the names are a bit rough, since they are adjective of words that I had extrapolated from other phrases, often in other languages. They seem euphonic though.
Gorhaax 22 Jun, 2013 @ 7:31pm
Great fix. Seems strange that specific problem would happen for a mod that colors religious symbols
Calypso  [author] 16 Jun, 2013 @ 8:02pm
Well, this mod has been published for 2 1/2 months, but I'm sorry to announce that only now is it fully functional. Thanks to InfoAddict I noticed certain Civs cashing in their faith for prophets, but not founding religions. After some investigation, it turned out there was a key error preventing all AI civs meant to use these religions from actually doing so. That's now fixed and subscribers should now expect deservedly more colorful games. Sorry again that this took me so long for me to realize.
MadHowa 7 May, 2013 @ 5:57pm
Thanks for the quick response.
Calypso  [author] 7 May, 2013 @ 3:32pm
#Hawawaa
Should be fixed now. Turns out with this latest Steam update I had to re-agree to the Workshop User Agreement before that mod could be subsribed to again.
MadHowa 7 May, 2013 @ 9:03am
Calypso, for some reason I can't download your basic religious mods. It states I don't have permission or its hidden. Any idea whats up?
SaberUmbra 24 Apr, 2013 @ 6:11pm
Fantastic work. I really like the tiki symbol and "Kiniakua" for the Polynesian religion.
LittleFae 10 Apr, 2013 @ 4:39pm
THANK YOU! Ugh- I've been complaining about not having a single proper pagan religion in Civ for ages now... this is perfect. While the names are interesting- I realize the difficulty you must have had deciding what to call each one- especially when some of those symbols are used for many different various religions (such as the Trinity Knot/Celtic Faerie's Shield).
tylertylertyler333 8 Apr, 2013 @ 10:33am
Can you add Pastafarianism?
DrakenX999 31 Mar, 2013 @ 7:27am
Cool

Calypso's Colored Religious Icons (Extended) is live! Remember, that to use this mod one must be using my other mod, Calypso's Colored Religious Icons (Basic). You can find it in my Workshop.
