You are so right. My apologies. I played a few last night and got the comments on the wrong page. I am currently attempting this map which was where I left off last night. Again, sorry.

@Stormsend. Thanks for testing this one (there is also a Beemod version with a few tweaks BTW). I would have liked to see your walkthrough but unfortunately the link took me to a walkthrough of "Twas not a simple stasis puzzle" which looks interesting so I will go in search of the chamber.
I have subscribed to Hard Logic and will comment in due course. Hope you can send me the correct link for Central Cavern. Cheers :)

Aardvark00  [author] 9 Nov, 2013 @ 5:29am
@m9so.
Aardvark00  [author] 9 Nov, 2013 @ 2:12am
@ m9so.

video. dead end

@ProfDave64 Wow, your comment WAS nearly as long as my chamber! Seriously, thanks for all the thought you put into it. A couple of quick replies to some of your points would be:
If you ever do finish it you'll see that the reflector cube is an integral part of the whole thing (hence the clue in the description above).
You could make use of F6 quicksave to split it into playable chunks on different sessions.
The contrast between the first 2 parts is deliberate. Some players comment that they hate big echoing chambers and some, like you I think, dislike compact ones. You can please some of the people some of the time :)
Signs versus antlines: the trouble with the signs is that for some strange reason Valve allow only a limited number of varieties and then they just repeat, which is just confusing.
Glass walls: I did give you a glimpse ahead in the floor of the corner room with the laser.....
I hope you will finish this, and I'm afraid there are 3 others :-D
ProfDave3d 22 Jul, 2013 @ 1:19pm
PS. I just read all the previous comments, and realize you've been honing this for months now. Sorry if I was presumptuous with any my suggestions; I might have been treating this too much like a brand new level where you'd be open to making large scale changes.

PART 3 OF 3

"THE SECOND LEVEL"

Just my opinion, but... The second half is a new level. Give the player a brand new reflector cube, and split it off.

Rhythm: I mentally paced myself for the first room, and used up the hour or so I mentally allocated for it.

Look & Feel: The first "level" was the first room -- tall, open, well lit -- and the second "level" is the opposite -- claustrophobic, dark, twisting and turning, with little dangers everywhere.

Bottom Line: This seems like at least two pretty clever levels. The second one could use some more light, and maybe some more breathing space, but it looks interesting. (Also, I think that you should replace one or two of the overlapping antlines with signs.)

I'd be willing to try that "second level" if you decide to split if off and I can do it some day that I'm fresh.

PART 2 OF 3

CONS:

There were a couple things that felt were a little frustrating (rather than fun):

CON: Solving a puzzle perfectly, only to find that once I solved it, I arrived at a place where I needed a sphere.

Suggestion: Show the player would be able to see the sequence in which he needs to do things. Swap some solid blocks with glass, so the player can see that he'll need to obtain a sphere before taking the elevator.

CON: An unseen action poured gel cleaner onto the middle square. I had to spend time figuring out which action was inadvertently cleaning off that square. Plus, I had already "proved" I could cover that area with gel; why do I have to do it again?

CON: I finally completed that first room, thought the level might almost be over, and THEN found a new area -- corridors with lasers, laser gates, multiple fizzlers, multiple funnels, etc. I think the new area should just be a new level. (See "The Second Level" below.)
ProfDave3d 22 Jul, 2013 @ 1:06pm
I hope you like your feedback long (like your level(s) :-)

PART 1 OF 3

PROS:

PRO: The puzzle of having to race the elevator was nice, and clever. The timing seemed to work out really well.

PRO: Since the sphere rolls around, it worked out really nicely that you put little lips on each side of that area that I left it on.
(There is at least one corner where it can get stuck and won't fall into a portal shot from above, as I discovered the hard way.)

PRO: When I first did the "double-shot" to connect the upper beam, I thought I had to do it real fast while a funnel dropped out from under me. I succeeded after a few tries, but it felt too difficult. I was glad to figure out that there was an easier way.

PRO: There were no dead ends to get trapped in, which was nice. Looking up from the ground, I couldn't tell that I wouldn't get trapped into that corner room with the laser, so you might want to give the player some visibility (glass) into that room.
Aardvark00  [author] 1 Jun, 2013 @ 1:35am
toncica: Very pleased to see your comment and amazed at your video! I never saw some of that coming :) "sphere in no man's land" the sphere is actually perfectly safe there even if rolling about, but place the cube so as to stop it blocking the laser during the next jump You are right about an easier solution in the next part, but I was very entertained (and alarmed) by yours. The sphere is only needed for the door. You just need to do a neat little cube exchanging routine after that
toncica 31 May, 2013 @ 9:59am
Wow, an extraordinary test. I have some doubts though if I have been missing an easier solution. Sacrificing the sphere in no man's land without hope of return took some determination .

Aardvark00  [author] 30 May, 2013 @ 4:23am
Big Moustache 28 May, 2013 @ 4:44am
N'hesite pas si tu as d'autres question.
Aardvark00  [author] 28 May, 2013 @ 2:52am
Big Moustache 28 May, 2013 @ 2:06am
Big Moustache 27 May, 2013 @ 10:09am
Merci, je suis debloqué, je continue
Aardvark00  [author] 27 May, 2013 @ 8:36am

Help !!

Aardvark64
I missed seeing that.
I thought it was some strange bug.
all worked well in the end :)
though remove the cleansing gel, would allow more time to do the intended solution.
I was obviously to slow the previous attempts.
but your map, your choice of course.
Aardvark00  [author] 20 May, 2013 @ 12:36am
Thanks mood (cleansing gel drops on the island fired by the lift button to avoid leftover gel if you go around again) & dacarpen. I appreciate your comments. Now, just need some new ideas.....
dacarpen 19 May, 2013 @ 11:21pm
Excellent map, I quite enjoyed it. Good puzzles, required some thought, but all were logical and well executed. I didn't run into any unwinnable postions, never had any problems seeing what was going on, I thumbed this up without hesitation.
mood3rd 19 May, 2013 @ 11:14am
Aardvark64
completed the updated version.
no exploits found.
good map.
puzzle med-hard.
1st chamber:
the blue gel on the portable island, sometimes disapeard ?
this caused me to look for another solution for a while.
but tried again & worked fine ?
2nd chamber:
after cube swapping & respawn to get the portal behind laser field
& cube back on button in original area.
I put the reflector in the funel, in the laser emitter room.
then did the rest.
worked perfectly.
did not need the fizzler

good ideas.
well executed.
so was I by 3 turrets :)
got my revenge :)
I had already given the thumbs up.
but if I could, I would give it again.
Aardvark00  [author] 11 May, 2013 @ 2:49am
Another day, another update :) Either cube can be respawned. Done!
daloboy 10 May, 2013 @ 9:53pm
Again great update! I like what you did with the start: I had to be carefull again! Really enjoyed the new way to get in the upper aquarium and its escape! In the second part, I put the reflecting cube to early in the blue funnel , and did not found a way to get it back, so had to restart! The only button I know that respawn it is here , in the next room, so unreachable! Great work nonetheless!
Aardvark00  [author] 10 May, 2013 @ 4:25am
mood: Update done with a few other changes which I think makes it more "interesting". If you were relying on the bypass in the 2nd chamber you should find it a bit trickier now, I hope :)
Aardvark00  [author] 10 May, 2013 @ 1:12am
mood: Thanks for that, an easy update there to hide the white tile from view I think.
Your method at the exit was correct although it's probably easier to just portal the cube up later . I've just subscribed to your new chamber which I know isn't going to be easy :)
mood3rd 9 May, 2013 @ 1:48pm
Aardvark64
thumbs up.
good / confusing / fun.
makes you think with this map.
glad I took reflector with me :)
activating the laser catcher that the funel goes into, took a while.
but when my portals & myself were in the right position to take advantage of it.
it worked. very good puzzle here.
turrets killed me, but I had my revenge :)
their is a bypass in the 2nd chamber past the funel (which I did not need)
you can jump on the cubes, & place a portal on the other side of the stairs.
did not need the portable area at the exit.
I used the angled panel here & jumped from above, through portals,
to get the cube up there. (but could not get myself up there, with this method.)
so I used the same angled panel with the faithplate from the previous area to reach the exit.

I have a new map. when you get time, please let me know what you think:

Hi Aardvark64. You're right, I have no knowledge on co-op mode! Good exploration to you!
Aardvark00  [author] 9 May, 2013 @ 1:02am
daloboy: thank you for taking the time with this. The dark corridors: I try to write my maps so that if the player doesn't use F6 they should never have to re-start if they, for instance, accidentally destroy a cube and need to go back for the re-spawned replacement.
As you didn't make any comment about co-op mode I don't suppose you happen to know if there is any way to save your position in community co-op maps. F6 doesn't seem to work!
daloboy 8 May, 2013 @ 6:58pm
That was still fun! I wonder: since I cannot get up here anymore, do you still have a use for the white tile without the grating? I like the little dark corridors allowing you to backtrack your path, in the upper level!
Aardvark00  [author] 7 May, 2013 @ 2:36pm
daloboy: Thank you. I realised just now that you had also bypassed the need for the weighted cube, so I also added a new laser field in the second part across the 3 white tiles.
daloboy 7 May, 2013 @ 8:56am
Will do!
Aardvark00  [author] 7 May, 2013 @ 6:22am
daloboy: And today's update is.......done. How could I have missed that one :) Please try again if you have time. Cheers!
daloboy 6 May, 2013 @ 9:48am
Great update! Can not get stuck there anymore. I found another bypass in the second room. I think you will easily correct this one!
daloboy 6 May, 2013 @ 8:50am
Thank you Aardvark64. I'll try it again.
Aardvark00  [author] 6 May, 2013 @ 12:43am
Daloboy. I haven't advertised this one so thanks for finding it and testing :) You found an exploit.... I wish that Portal glass fitted without leaving a gap! Update to follow and I'll move the fizzler too. Decoy, what decoy? I don't know what you mean :-D
If you wondered why I've stopped testing your chambers at the moment it's because I have been trying co-op mode. Very entertaining and easier to understand than I expected!
daloboy 5 May, 2013 @ 8:58pm
That was fun! Enjoyed it. Found a bypass ! I got stuck here more than once, the fizzler emitter blocking my exit! Really laugh hard when I tried to get to the exit level just be jumping! Nice decoy!
