Never did like hauling grain in an open wagon where any passing bird can help themselves.

Can the same be done for "mixed_fodder"? At Industry DLC it is required for "livestock breeding".

I will be patching "Gondola Construction & Steel" to be more universally compatible with custom bulk cargo types (current specifically targeting New Industry cargos, but should be easily extensible for other cargo types). I have experimented with the first model, I need to extend the modification to the other 5 models, so expect an update to that mod later today or tomorrow.

Ah, yes, that would make sense.
"Grain in Boxcars not Gondolas" is a pure script mod and can add/remove cargo types from any enclosed car model (e.g. boxcar, tankcar), because since it's enclosed we can't see the cargo.
Open cars (e.g. gondola, flatcar) need to have the cargo load physically present on the model to show up when it's loaded or unloaded, which makes it harder to do as a pure script modification. Probably not impossible, but harder. I'll have to investigate.
If you load New Industry after "Gondola Construction & Steel" then it will override and you'll have waste and other New Industry cargos, but that's the same as not loading the mod at all (it's a complete override). I'll see what I can come up with.

Ok, I tested again with a clean mod list. It seems like the culprit is construction & steel, which I always enabled & disabled simultanously. I should have run these tests in the first place, my apologies.

@Pekh: I'm not sure what to say, I loaded up a test game with New Industries + this mod and it seemed to work as expected:

The only thing to check would be what order you're loading the mods in, does this mod come before or after New Industries? In either case, try switching the load order and see if that changes anything for you?
Beyond that I can't think of anything, other than you might have some other mod that's also attempting to modify car contents?

@Pekh: It's not supposed to remove anything from gondolas except Grain. I'll have to load up New Industries and investigate what's happening and if I can solve it.

Unfortunately, this mods seems to remove the "waste" cargo type (new industries mod) from the open car, making it impossible to move waste by train (at least in the early years). I appreciate your work though, that mixing of food and other bulks has been bothering me a long while ...

@Kronic_Rogue: it won't affect any other cars (e.g. covered hopper) that carry grain, unless they also carry coal (which they shouldn't).

edit: I just checked the workshop for covered hopper mods:
6340cuft Covered Hopper = fine (carries grain / plastic)
4750 Hopper = fine (carries grain / plastic / stone)
Covered Hopper (Slmmp) -- carries same cargo as gondola, I will add an exception for this mod.
If you find any other modded wagons that carry grain and coal that you think should be excepted, let me know.

will it wipe covered hopper mods from hauling grain?. Also most grain that was transported by boxcar was done in bags. This made it easier to load it, be able to sell it in a set size format, and if it was to be shipped overseas it would be lifted with a cargo net into the hold of a ship. Some Cars where hoppers, as it was easier to lower the grain in with a crane, leave the net on the bottom, tarp over it if needed and haul it to the docks.

Well cool....I stand corrected then. Still seems silly but I see how it could have been done. And yes my dad (and even I a little bit) scooped grain out of square granaries by hand so the box car would have been very similar.

@jimkehn: Perhaps it was silly, but it was certainly done for many many decades. Before covered hoppers took over (~1960-1980) grain was by default shipped in boxcars. They would put wooden barriers to cover the lower 3/4 of the door opening, leaving enough room for the grain to be loaded above (see below links for illustrations). Getting the grain out was a pain, involving either mechaincally picking the boxcar up and shaking it around (seriously) or lots of men with shovels and brooms. Needless to say, the invention of covered hoppers revolutionized rail grain transport :)

Having been a farmer all my life I think it silly to haul grain in a boxcar. Maybe specialized like seed corn in bags or something but bulk grain in a boxcar is just silly.

@Guidedhen: actually you must also have my other mod Gondola Construction Materials loaded, that's where the error was, and it's fixed now, sorry about that.

@Softwaresimian hey I'm sorry but I coudln't find that dump file, but I just tried to start up a game again with it to just tell you what it says. It says

"File: vehicle/waggon/usa/gondola_1907.mdl cannot open res/models/mesh/industry/cargo/lod_1_cargo_steel_goods_large.msh: No such file or directory
This error is usually caised by modding. The syntax of some game resources is not correct."

This was the error message that pops up and forces a close.

Mod wouldn't work. Gave me an error when trying to start the game and then quit game
