That said, I'm surprised no one has done a 'matriarchy' mod which would allow females to be named as faction leaders/heirs. If anyone knows of one please do share.

I think in this setting the mod can help realism (by not making all females generals per se) but allow the user to appoint powerful female figures like the power hungry Varro to take command of armies.
