This mod is a piece of crap, get this one instead: A Better Chosen

Just unsub from this, sub to the new one. Can be done midcampaign.

Hm. Maybe it doesn't speak well of my tastes or skills, but I actually prefer this to A Better Chosen.

As you say in this mod description, the Chosen already heavily warp gameplay, so making them much more powerful, as ABC does, is not something that I'm not interested in. I like the abilities that you give them in ABC, but they feel too strong, given that you don't ease the mission in some way to compensate (e.g. by decreasing the Chosen's health or decreasing the number of standard enemies).

That said, I *wish* that WotC was balanced around Chosen being more offensively capable and more vulnerable. It would be nice if the challenge of facing the Chosen came from mitigating their unique threats, rather than chasing down hyper-mobile meat-walls.

By default, Chosen can not spawn on those missions. That's why their AI isn't equipped to 'spare' that civvie, they only see a hostile that they have flanked. The only thing spawning on those missions in vanilla are the Lost.

ABA does not change where and when Chosen spawn, must be something else.

I'm not sure if it's an issue with this mod but I'm just gonna post it in here in case it is.

I was doing one of those missions where you have to rescue somebody who's protected by a turret. There was a countdown for you to rescue the civilian but the Chosen (the Warlock in this case) just shot the mission objetive in the face before the countdown ran out and I failed mission.

That had never happend to me before.

Nope, that doesn't sound like something my mod could cause. This mod is strictly limuted to one specific ini, no changes to how abilities work.

i am not sure if its your mod or another but i noticed the hunter with his tracking shot now will always hit even if the target is outside of the radius that shows. and he will spam this over and over until the squad is dead.

Strange. That didn't happen for me. The Hunter was frozen for a good 3 turns. Maybe another mod messed it up.

Chosen have an ability to break out of frost effects right at the beginning of their turn. So a Frost Bomb can only ever give you one free turn against them. Of course, that often can be enough.

To give them immunity, you would need to add an ability. That's something you can not do from ini, you would need to make a proper mod for that.

He was definitely using his rifle more. Nice change.

By the way, what would I need to do in order to give the Chosen immunity to frost, or at least the ability to break out of a Frost Grenade more quickly? I hit the Hunter with one and even with Ruler Reactions he didn't break out before I took him down. Kinda cheap.

This mod has been updated to make the Hunter spam his pistol less.
He will still use it of course, but not quite as often as before.

That one is an issue that i noticed myself a lot during my streamed campaign, the Hunter really used the pistol a lot more than would be expected. The reason for that is that i gave him a chance to use the pistol on priority shots (Killshot, Sureshot, Flankshot) and made the chance to use the pistol on sure shots (>80% cth) a bit too high. Turns out the Hunter has pretty good aim and most shots are actually sure shots for him... so in turn he used his pistol more often than i anticipated.

This has been fixed, only 30% of his sure shots will now be taken with the pistol.

These odds can of course be adjusted in the AI.ini, near the bottom.

One more thing I think should be added, if possible: the Chosen should ignore Mimic Beacons. It feels silly that such intelligent beings can be tricked by a hologram.

Also, I'm finding that the Chosen Hunter is using his pistol way too often and doesn't take rifle shots. Even though I'm using a Ruler Reaction mod for them, I'd like it if the Hunter were to take rifle potshots more often.

Okay, now there's one more thing I'd like to do, but can't do even in those INI's: make it so the Warlock's Mind Scorch attack deals a small amount of damage even if it doesn't daze/stun its target (i.e. if your team has Mindshields or certain MRPGO perks). Any ideas? He ends up not being very threatening even when I give the Chosen access to Ruler Reactions.

@Darkdill - You can simply edit your local game values to your liking. Navigate to:

Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\XComGame\Config

Open edit the the following items with notepad:

DefaultGameData_SoldierSkills.ini
DefaultGameData_WeaponData.ini

Use Ctrl+F to find entries relating to 'Chosen'

So how would one go about modifying the Chosen's damage? I'm playing with several mods that end up making everyone considerably more durable (including the enemy), but the Chosen are dealing wimpy amounts of damage.

Glad to hear that it works out for you. I wasn't too impressed with the mod personally during my own campaign, thought that it introduced a couple of its own issues. But i might've just been unlucky, who knows. The general lack of complaints points towards the mod doing it's thing, though. So the confirmation is appreciated.

Anyway, just seen the Warlock fire his rifle for probably the first time in over 1,000hrs. Thanks, I feel like throwing the Elder's Greatest Toddler a party or something. :ethereal:

I'm using this with Aggressive Chosen (which makes Hunter & Toddler move in like the Assassin). The Hunter is really, really scary now, which I enjoy immensely, my operatives, less so.

And back to the question, I do know your stand, but I was not asking for that. I was just wondering if editing the .ini is technically feasible to make both work simultaneously. If I was a modder I wouldn't have to ask what might be too obvious to you.

Dude, you should know my stand on this by now. It's the same as with ABB. I make my recommendation, which for this mod is "Don't use this with other AI mods."
You can either believe me or not.
And if you want to mash stuff together, that's on you alone as well. Is it possible to do? Sure. Can you do it? I don't know, i know neither you nor the other AI mod.

@DerBK If possible I would like to keep the changes you made to the Assassin, but use the AI changes to the other 2 Chosen from "Improved Chosen AI", as this significantly buffs them.

Can I make both mods compatible by deleting from your AI.ini file the entries for the Warlock and Hunter and keep only the Assasin code?

The other rmod does not affect the Assasin. Thanks.

I like that your idea behind this mod is simply to make Chosen decision making make a little more sense, as opposed to buffing up their stats (which I frankly don't think is needed, simply showing up to a mission by itself makes is significantly harder. Elitists can go ahead and say I'm a baby for thinking that.).

I wouldn't have subscribed to this, otherwise, because it totally makes more sense this way. I've played WOTC multiple times on Commander and not *once* have I seen the Warlock use his rifle. Which means if he runs into anyone with a mindshield he becomes a helpless baby man completely incapable of being threatening.

Nice! Does this affect how quckly the Assassin closes to attack? In vanillla, it'd usually take 2-3 turns once she ports in. With this, she stays in shadows till i find her. Makes for a nerve wracking good time!

Okay, thanks DerBK. I will stay with the Improved Chosen AI for now, BUT will keep my eye on this mod. Your mods are awesome and make the game so much more fun in comparison to the base game. If the creators have not reached out to you with a job offer, they should be ashamed!!! You make some cool mods!

Correcting myself: They are likely NOT compatible.
Both edit the AI.ini, and best case they just overwrite each other.

Pick one of the two.

They are likely compatible, but the Improved Chosen AI mod will probably just drown out my mod due to having a lot more in it.
I suggest running only one of the two mods. Pick depending on if you want subtle changes or sweeping buffs to the Vhosen.

Alright, now that i am home, i double checked the Warlock AI. I did indeed not change the priority of his "Move If Necessary" action, so i would assume that the Warlock would have stayed in place without my mod as well.
Looking at his AI tree, the thing that is most likely to keep him in place is having multiple Overwatchers.

I don't think i changed anything about the Warlocks beehavior with regards to cover, he should only be shooting if he would be using psi otherwise, or on one of the priority shot options.. But i can doublecheck that again later, i would want him to seek cover when flanked.

Did you have a couple of guys on Overwatch? That could've made the Warlock not want to run them.

So the Warlock just shot a soldier instead of going for cover when he had no cover around him, but cover in easy movement, is that intended? ik ai is always tricky so just want to make sure
