Turned the bugger into a mini-tank!
I'd be interested to know what the devs originally intended us to use them for. I mean they're cr@p at being wheels & not much better at being bearings...Strikes me they never figured on anyone actually using them for anything.
I'm going to contact them & find out! Maybe I can convince them to give the things some love.
What I need is the former - what this build is being is the latter!
I actually just developed a U/J using vanilla blocks. Can't believe I didn't think of it ages ago! It's pure evil to install but it's ok once it's fitted to something.
These 1x1 wheels though... I think I might hate them! They seem to get stuck on nothing. One tiny imperfection in the voxel & with the trailer on the truck stops instantly. Some of the trailer wheels turn & others dont - then the ones that did work stop working for no reason & others sieze up instead... gnnrrr!
Yep, that's what the mk2 is modeled after. All I have to do now is get it to work properly!
The rotor hitch is causing all sorts of weirdness. If only there was a U/J block!
Thanks for the link. I've subbed & will be checking that out soon.
From the screenshots, I think some of my existing builds will probably get their arses tanned raw by that planet... but it'll be a perfect place to develop more capable ones in the future.
It has a terrible grid that truly gives a beating to most vehicles. I truly belive your vehicles will do perfectly!
The trailer is built so that all you have to do is delete / not build the cockpits & you can turn it into anything you like. It can hold up to 4 3x3x3 blocks (Cargo Containers, Reactors, Oxygen Tanks, Batteries, Passenger Seats, etc) or up to 2 5x5x5 blocks (Large Cargo Containers, Hydrogen Tanks) - or possibly some combination of them.
It'll probably get a solar panel on the roof too. I might even make it remote control so it can be moved around without the tractor.
maybe also make a cargo variant, or a hydrogen/oxygen tank variant, so it is a proper supply vehicle.
but it looks great so far, the two cabs make it look more "industrial".
Something like this perhaps...

Still a work in progress. Have to build a proper U/J hitch for it & I'm having a bit of a hard time getting the trailer wheels to behave properly - they seem a bit bugged. The mini-update the other day may have broken my save in some strange way.

I think you just nailed that "better reason" I was looking for! With a trailer it could fill all kinds of roles. If I made the trailer so it could be reconfigured, people could decide for themselves what they wanted to use it for.
Thanks very much for suggesting that! If I could hand out badges you'd get one!
i would suggest adding a trailer design, some kind of mobile base or supply transport.
I think it needs a better reason to exist than the Oxygen & Hydrogen thing - but it's so small there's hardly any room for anything! Maybe I can make more room for stuff by giving it a twin cab...
@Shrimp... Nice! Let me know how it performs for you. Haven't had a lot of time to test this one.
the overall design is nothing spectacular but the concept is great, while still very simple, i never thought of that.
immediatly reminded me of antarctic or sibirian expeditions.
