ya same thing doesnt work no idea how to work timers

You may have to verify that the timer is set up correctly (they often break when built/pasted in from a blueprint). Make sure that it turns on the batteries and artificial mass on the plate, then turns off the merge blocks, then turns on the gravity generators.

The defensive plate doesn't seem to fire off for me. It just detaches
