Funny you should ask, I was about to upload it.

Please update for new game version thanks!

How about toxic rains actually corrode the outside buildings really really bad! Super high maintenance worst than a dust storm. Acid rain.
SkiRich  [author] 21 Jun, 2019 @ 4:51pm
Not sure yet. I may make that an option to config.
fasquardon 21 Jun, 2019 @ 4:49pm
Ohhhh. Nice. For such a mod, what would toxic rains do?
SkiRich  [author] 21 Jun, 2019 @ 3:10pm
I'm building a whole new mod for that.
xerxes0 21 Jun, 2019 @ 1:40pm
Nice idea! can you extend this to happen on Rain Event too? After the Mars warms up, no more Cold Waves. I like the nice random exciting nature of putting the water resource back in instead of having to totally rely on Moisture Vaporators end game,

This mod starts with a false premise, since the "ice" in a Martian cold wave would be mostly frozen CO2, but the idea of temperature swings causing ice to migrate through the sub-surface aquifers is plausible (we may have even seen such a process from orbit, but we aren't sure yet) and the mod is nicely balanced. I feel it really adds to my games without being overpowered. I recommend it to anyone. And thanks to SkiRich for making it. ^_^

Armstrong/Green Planet Compatible
DartMada 17 May, 2019 @ 2:01pm
will this work with Green Planet?
DartMada 16 Dec, 2018 @ 11:28pm
Okay, ,thanks.
SkiRich  [author] 16 Dec, 2018 @ 7:51pm
Cheat cold waves will work to start them. Cheat all disaster stop will not work. You will need to issue a StopColdWave() to have it register an official end to a coldwave.
DartMada 16 Dec, 2018 @ 5:41pm
does it have to be Cold Waves that happen on their own or can you use cheat ones?
DartMada 16 Dec, 2018 @ 5:25pm
is this supposed to work automatically? Cuz I haven't seen it work

I knew lots of people were going to mention that it's CO2 ice. Well, other than that, there is lots and lots of water underneath Mars. It might need some dev attention--the endgame water recycling mechanic, that is. There would probably be some water in there, as well as other things. Atmospheres do tend to contain lots of trace things, after all.

As an added note on Wikipedia--some of it's information might be okay, but it really isn't a great source of information overall. I would suggest visiting NASA and some other scientists' sites, like Dr. Zubrin's for example. They are really great reads on Mars and other things.

While the ice on mars is technically not water, the fact that there is no way to religiously recycle water to near 100% effectiveness on a planet without abundant water is crazy (the colonists are already living in a bubble after all), so to me this is the perfect mod to counteract that bit of oversite by the developers.

Thanks for making something so creative and useful!

Updated - v2 of the Mod now restores depleted deposits. See notes.

I also suggest Wiki " Atmosphere of Mars#Water "
It is much shorter, and is to the point, though it mentions "large amounts of water" which is subjective to Mars, not to Earth. I can imagine the frost would still provide up to a cup of water from an area of, say, a foot... a baseball field. A small amount compared to the underground deposits perhaps, but still meaningful for the pioneers and certainly not insignificant when properly recycled.

Very interesting, subscribed! I figure it works with existing saves? Thanks for all the great mods btw!
SkiRich  [author] 18 Sep, 2018 @ 2:22pm
@Shades, I'll add a link to the description to a heavily footnoted (well referenced) wiki about Martian Atmosphere.
Shades 18 Sep, 2018 @ 2:16pm
Can you at least make a note of the science for the good of the people?
SkiRich  [author] 18 Sep, 2018 @ 1:14pm
Discussions around the science of moisture on mars are out of scope of this comments section or the mods discussions. If you feel so compelled to discuss martian water feel free to open a discussion on the games main discussion forums. The comment section here are for the mod. Thats all this is - a mod for a game adding in a new game mechanic.
