Clear Waters

This mod is great especially considering I didnt like the fake looking water texture from the original mod. But I do think it would be better if the top layer was a bit darker/foggier since high rising parts of the ocean floor look almost indistinguishable from normal land.
Hardened_Mass 22 Nov, 2023 @ 2:00pm
Would it be possible to make the clarity adjustable? Completely clear is a little off-putting and vanilla isn't great either but if there was a sliding scale for clarity...? Maybe have one that adds detritus (suspended floating debris) with a sliding scale as well.

It would be great if we could get waves eventually and currents, for rivers and streams. Placeable water with physics would be sick af.

I like how the Waterworks mod ties the water table to the clay layer.

Don't mind me rambling, just thinking aloud.

@tobyman59 This mod requires the water mod. It just changes the material of the water to be transparent
tobyman59 27 Apr, 2022 @ 1:47am
I have found snow, but I can't see water on the world or on the map, dp I need some other mod
Borko 19 Dec, 2020 @ 2:51am
Great job, water without clear was just not the same. Thanks!
nubeees  [author] 18 Dec, 2020 @ 6:31pm
@lupinemaxx Thanks for your patience, and I'm glad you enjoy! :)
lupinemaxx 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:19am
@Nubeees: Successful test! As angry as I am at Marek Rosa for totally abandoning ME it is still a very unique game that has no comparisons and I enjoy coming back to it.

This mod is KEY for me building on a water world. I do everything in survival. Water is nice but trying to locate a building site with a good harbor is impossible if you can't get a good depth sounding or see the ocean floor.

Means: You really need to see it to believe it.

As a rule RL comes first. I entirely understand the wait for this fix and deadlines that need to be faced down first. I am nothing but appreciative.
nubeees  [author] 14 Dec, 2020 @ 2:20am
Done. Clear waters should be working again.
nubeees  [author] 14 Dec, 2020 @ 12:11am
@lupinemaxx your timing could not have been any better. I just so happen to be using the correct computer at the moment, and just so happen to have finished the major deadline which was eating all of my spare time for the past month.

Working on a fix now. Need to wait for pretty much my entire games library to update though
lupinemaxx 8 Dec, 2020 @ 7:46am
Glad to hear that the multi-layered water effect is known about. I was away since the summer and came back to my rather large creation of coastal villages half submerged in 'ghost waters'. I'll check from time to time to see when this is corrected. Peace.
nubeees  [author] 29 Nov, 2020 @ 11:50am
Yeah, the model is too big now. I know what I need to do to fix it, but have been busy with university work. Next time I update this mod I'll include the blend file with the mod so other people can fix it if I'm being slow again
Malum1971 28 Nov, 2020 @ 9:25am
I don't have any issues loading this mod togethr with the watermod but it does cause errors in the watermod as in there will be multible "water layers" showing but only the lowest of them is the actually water and make you float. the upper layers of water is just a mirror-effect of the suffice of clear water....
XCanG 5 Nov, 2020 @ 12:39pm
This mod not loading with water mod. Get error during load.
nubeees  [author] 31 Aug, 2020 @ 1:17pm
@peaceman Thank you for the headsup! I've been unusually busy recently but I'll see to booting up my old laptop to grab the blend files and fixing the mesh.
peaceman 31 Aug, 2020 @ 8:44am
Water mod got an update so it works with any size planet. But to do that I had to make a change to the scale of the water mesh. Because of that the mesh used in this mod is now a bit too big. Will have to be updated. The scale is now 50 instead of the old 50.258
Vaagventje 25 May, 2020 @ 12:15pm
Nvm, it was a other mod screwing with the overlay its good now
Vaagventje 25 May, 2020 @ 11:30am
this mod makes the water mod so much better. but the underwater overlay makes it so much more difficult to do anything. :( is there anyway i can remove that overlay?
CBFasi 17 Mar, 2020 @ 8:17am
Not a voxel as such, it changes the water in the 'Water in Medieval Engineers' mod to be more transparent, that mod affects the whole planet
Xelriel 22 Sep, 2019 @ 1:42pm
So is this like Voxel i can add anywhere or is this a whole planet? Because i would rather just make my own lakes, Rivers, Ponds, Ect.
Arta Vulgaris 19 Mar, 2019 @ 1:03pm
thx
nubeees  [author] 19 Mar, 2019 @ 12:50am
addendum: I was mistaken. Fine tuning an update now :)
nubeees  [author] 19 Mar, 2019 @ 12:01am
I did some experimenting today, and it would seem the lighting bug is still persistant, so I still cannot give the water (or the underwater fog) any form of coloration. Furthermore, changing graphics settings relating to shadows does seem to alter how it looks so it is without any doubt related to transparent material rendering in ME and no amount of XML editing will fix that.

Strangely ME did not yell at me for trying to run the mod despite not having fixed the max game version yet, but I'll push that change anyways.
nubeees  [author] 3 Mar, 2019 @ 3:45pm
@Artasan | RustNow.com
I should be able to find time to do that. I might as well test if they've fixed the lighting bug as well.
Arta Vulgaris 3 Mar, 2019 @ 2:43pm
nubeees, would you please update this mod? it works fine, only annoying message on the load. should be enought to change compatible version info in metadata.mod to <MinGameVersion>0.7</MinGameVersion>
<MaxGameVersion>0.8</MaxGameVersion>
thx in advance!
Bug 17 Feb, 2019 @ 10:35am
are you going to update this?
vladimir the bot impaler 17 Jan, 2019 @ 8:11am
splendid
Telion 30 Dec, 2018 @ 12:31pm
Oh, that a shame, but hey you can do what can't be done, just gonna have to hope they patch it some day.
nubeees  [author] 29 Dec, 2018 @ 12:21pm
@Telion
I haven't tried in a while so this could be fixed now, but there's a bug where ME only renders the lighting of transparent materials within a certain range of the camera, so you get a patch of blue surrounded by a black ocean. :/
Telion 29 Dec, 2018 @ 6:14am
Love it, now all we need is something inbetween which isn't pure blue or completely clear, just a goldilocks perfect thats dark and blue but still translucent. Idk how either mod works but if its possible that would be great. Still prefer this over 'soup' though.
Rakvir 24 Nov, 2018 @ 7:48pm
Highly recomend this mod! it has a planet option when seting up a world USE IT! water is clear and beatiful even underneath the surface! none of that deep blue thick as soup fog that Water in Medieval Engineers mod has!
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:46pm
No worries.
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:39pm
Weird. It looks to be trouble with the base mod's scripting. I might need to ask peaceman. Too late now though, I need sleep
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:27pm
I see. It's possible the problem has to do with model scaling, but that's just a guess.
Do you have a crash log you'd be able to send me?
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:26pm
I hadn't tried it before, I don't know if it would have been broken before or not.
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:23pm
Weird... That shouldn't cause any problems. Your world with the custom planet was working with Clear Waters before?
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:20pm
Yes yeah, I have that too. Seems like it works with only WiME and Clear Waters. But breaks on custom planets, even though WiME on those custom planets seems to work. Odd enough. But it works as intended alone with WiME, at least.
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:19pm
Make sure you've got the original water mod also enabled. Clear waters is not standalone
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:16pm
I'll test it again with JUST your mod give me a few
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:15pm
That's bizarre... All I changed was a single texture.
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:12pm
ok update my game is crashing whenever I try to launch with your mod enabled now :(
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 10:00pm
Nice!
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 9:42pm
Just pushed an update to fix that underwater GUI overlay. Not entirely sure why, but I had to recreate the texture to get it to work.
I don't think actual haze is possible, but I could probably sometime add more layers to my fake haze effect. :)
(Also if ME's devs fixed transparent material lighting bug I could make the water look a lot nicer. I'll have to test this again sometime.)
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 9:37pm
It happens. I've been playing with this mod on over the Water in Medieval Engineers, by the way. Like Morpeus said, underwater looks like total ass, but it's BETTER with this mod than it is with JUST WiME. In the daytime, exclusively.
Personal opinion is that the water is a bit too transparent, I think you should cloud it up just a little bit more than it is, but it does look really great from the outside either way.
nubeees  [author] 4 Nov, 2018 @ 1:21pm
@Gunvarrel
Life getting in the way. I really do need to revisit this though.
Gunvarrel 4 Nov, 2018 @ 2:35am
Well, that was almost a month ago... Any update?
nubeees  [author] 10 Oct, 2018 @ 12:54pm
@Morpheus
I'll take a look at the change and see if my addon here needs to bee updated accordingly when I have time. :)
Molten Carnage 10 Oct, 2018 @ 8:51am
Water In Medieval Engineers was updated with a change to the underwater texture that covers the screen. The blue mess is back and we can't see underwater. Can this be fixed or replaced with a volumetric hase that allows for a limited visibility effect (something like 25-50 ft visibility underwater)?
Cigarette 28 Sep, 2018 @ 1:49pm
All we need now is fish NPC's
nubeees  [author] 26 Sep, 2018 @ 9:32pm
@XCanG
Peaceman's already got access to all my changes I think. If he doesn't I'd be happy to give him any of my work here.
This is pretty much just an extension of his mod, hence for it to work you need his mod installed on the world.
