20000 max in TTS, if thay are objects. More if Asset bundles. 8500 is good for a scanned object. I always try to keep then less than 10k if possible. I'm always interested in things others have done.

@Ctrl-Alt-Defeat. Sorry, need to know you better than this. Very careful with that. Hope you understand... Nice that you liked this mod, tho.

Mind if I add you?

i am using agisoft.
timewise i found it faster to just take more pictures instead of masking a lower count of photos manually
Tumba  [author] 8 Oct, 2018 @ 10:29am
One of the pictures above shows a masked picture. You'll see that the background is quite neutral. But apparently it's not neutral enough. Also without masking I tend to get a "halo" of sorts of the background colors around the object where the software isn't really sure if it's dealing with background or not. Also holes and other see-through parts are sharper when masking. Taking 100 of pics is not really a option for me when photometering 100+ figures. Used to take sets of 48, but ended up masking anyway. I found 24 masked pics provides a decent compromize. The looser is the ground, which would need a separate set of pictures from higher up. But my current photorig doesn't support such angles easily enough. Amateur stuff... What software are you using?

i just read your description and wanted to mention that you can evade a lot of the work put into photogrammetry by taking ore photos with a neutral background.
for my mods i take around a 100 photos (every 10 degrees from three angles and the rest is done by the software

"I'm suprised the figures I photometered so far have been received so well, even though they are nowhere near masterpieces. " I think they have been received so well for precisely the reasons you listed. Seeing this stuff on the workshop is a break from years of the norm and I hope it "catches on." I don't want to shake a stick at the people posting game rips though, cuz that's better than nuthin and it probably does take some work to put together!

I actually have a load of PSM ships somewhere in storage. However, photometering them will probably not happen. ;)

Oh, the Brig and Galleas are in some addon. Sorry, would love to, but I don't own the addons, so no miniatures to paint...
Tumba  [author] 7 Oct, 2018 @ 9:13am
Yup, even the Barque is missing. I wish this was Sid Meyers Pirates!, but alas these are all the models there were... But I might add a Cog/Early Galley from "Sir Francis Drake" one day...

Aww where's my brig and my galleass? Haha just kidding. Very nice work there.

@Tumba I quite agree. If its going to be called a Tabletop Simulator then it should be as realistic as possible. That means models (miniatures in particular) should look like they do in real life, imperfections and all. Wooden cubes for example should have some wood grain visible. Old ivory dice should be worn in places from use.

@Elder_Salt. WS is also lacking models with natural feel. Too many are just object rip-offs from existing computer games. I'm not trying to downplay them, nor the effort it takes to make them. Most of them are just awesome looking and have a really clean, sharp and almost too perfect feel to them.

But personally, I think that a board game, originally a physical entity, should be played with pieces with physical origins. The pieces may be a bit rugged, with painting mistakes here and there, but that only adds to the feeling of playing with a real thing.

I'm suprised the figures I photometered so far have been received so well, even though they are nowhere near masterpieces. They were painted as boardgame pieces, not as showpieces meant to bee zoomed 100x. People have been relly nice to me about them. There will be more, but I'll take a while. Photometering is a slow and much time and work requiring business.

all of these are great. The WS is definitely lacking in models that aren't the stock D&D basics/warhammer stuff. I look forward to more of these.

Update:
- Fixed ships relative sizes to be more realistic.
- Decreased VP counter and Homeport sizes
- Fixed name issue. Only Blue figures have now the prfix Blue. NPC's Man-o-Wars are now just Man-o-Wars, Galleon text removed.

Wow...nice pics. Those bones are awesome :steamhappy:

Added pics of the original...

Thanks. These were painted 8 years ago in a relative hurry to get them ready to a gamescon in time. Not saying that they could have been much better (check BGG for pics of), but the hurry meant that some checks were not as well done as they should have been. There's several seams left, paint "droplets" where there should not be and an entire post wash paint layer of paint is missing (leaving many od the ship hulls looking really dirty). The funny part is that we didn't play the game at all in that con... Oh, well.
The figures are good enough to be watched from a distance and definitely good enough to be playing pieces in a boardgame.

Little trivia: all the ships, except sloops, used to have flags. Sadly most of them have gotten lost in countles games through the years.

Also, my pimped version of the boardgame game has golden dublons and aged dice. I,ll include them in this package too when I can find the time

Gorgeous miniatures Tumba. Appreciate the time and effort this takes. Keep up the fantastic work.
