@BMW-POWER, please use this version of the mod instead and read the description there too, which explains how to use it.

Cheers.

Please add a mod to remove the cars but not the people.
I have always lots of traffic on the streets, but I still want them to transport it with busses and trains etc.

@Rogg60

No worries, was definitely worth a shot!

Haha, yes -- I think mountaineering of this nature may require the help of Sir Edmund Hillary, rest his soul.

@c64gamer Many thanks for sparing the time to look into creating the mod, it would have been nice if it were possible, but if it requires you donning mountaineering gear to do it, then I'm sure I can struggle on without it :) Again, many thanks for your efforts Sir.

@Rogg60 (continued) The error message that appears when the game crashes has something to do with the people not being able to find a path to follow along the side of the road, when a road is upgraded to use the "No Cars or People" road of the equivalent type.

So it looks like it may not be possible to disable people as well as cars on specific roads: but it is still possible to disable cars on specific roads.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news; being the stubborn individual I am, I still have a few other ideas up my sleeve, but they are far more complex to implement, and bypass the modding system, so for now this appears to be a mountain which is too steep to climb!

@Rogg60 I have created a mod that has a copy of all the vanilla roads, but with "No Cars or People" added to each. The problem I'm dealing with is the pedestrians.

If I try to upgrade an existing road with the "No Cars or People" road, the game crashes.

Likewise, if I try to place a brand new "No Cars or People" roads, then the game also crashes.

The exception is if I only turn off the Cars, but not the people when upgrading a road, or creating a new road with "No Cars" set. That works fine.

@Rogg60 Sure, no problem -- might take a little while, but should make things a bit more flexible compared to this particular mod. Will tell you how it goes. :)

@c64gamer If you could spare the time to create the mod I would be most grateful, it will indeed be useful to me Sir.

@Rogg60 Ahh, that's a shame -- it's possible to create a variation of my mod which decides whether or not to disable cars and people based on what type of road it is.

As an example, we could duplicate the vanilla road types that come with the game, and rename them to something different. ie. country_new_medium.lua becomes ncp_country_new_medium.lua (and so forth). The preview image in the roads palette for the "ncp" roads could just have the people and car with a cross on them, to differentiate them from regular roads.

Then you could choose any of the "ncp" ("no cars or people") roads to use when creating roads which shouldn't have cars or people. (or upgrade existing roads to the "ncp" type, to remove the cars and people)

Happy to turn it into a mod if you think it'd be useful.

@c64gamer Thanks for the reply, I have tried the mods you mentioned, the traffic filter one doesn't seem to work and the SMP Mod won't stop people. I thought of trying to apply your mod to a single road, but that way lies madness lol.
c64gamer  [author] 3 Nov, 2018 @ 7:22pm
@Rogg60 The default settings for each road type are located in the game directory under "res" > "config" > "street"; and each file in the street directory contains a number of different settings that control how the street/road functions in the game.

@Rogg60 Not a daft question. :) The default settings for each street/road in the game can be overridden, just not with this mod. Settings can be changed for a single street/road type, or a bunch of different street/road types, depending on what the desired result is.

There's a variety of alternate streets/roads in the SMP mod, but I'm not sure if any of those have no people on the footpath/sidewalk. The traffic filter mod also has options for disabling people on sidewalks, but I'm not sure about disabling cars with it:

Would it be possible to make a single road that didn't allow AI cars or people, but leave all other roads with normal function? I know nothing about modding, so if this is a daft question, that's my excuse.

@Norfolk_Chris Someone asked if it was possible to make people disappear in the comments for the Hide AI Cars mod. I told them passenger vehicles would be rendered useless, but went ahead and released this anyway, just in case they wanted it for some reason I wasn't aware of.

Personally, I think people are essential to the game, so prefer to leave them in game.

@Norfolk_Chris to raise fps maybe

I get the cars part, but if you hide the people no one will show up at transit stops right?
Norfolk_Chris 31 Oct, 2018 @ 2:14am
Why would you want to do this?
