Well in the book for BONE LACING the cost is :
Plastic +1 body essence cost 0.5
Aluminium +1 body, +1 impact essence cost 1.15
Titanium + 2 body, + 1 impact, + 1 ballistic essence cost 2..25

But is for the body not just for one leg

I always picked bone lacing back in the days ... reminded me of Wolverine ;)

I don't have the books available atm, but I seem to remember that the essence cost was for the pair of arms or pair of legs. I am nearly certain of the pair of legs though, since it would seem to throw the character's ballance off if only one was worn.
Also, iirc, bonelacing was a requirement for the cyberlegs/arms or else the stress of use would literally rip the limbs from the torso.

Essence cost is too high (at least compared to the p&p system). There's a reason for having fractional costs of essence -- it's not a bug, it's intentional and, really, a requirement because how of the magic stats works.

I didn't realize that the rounding was a glitch. Memory is a bit foggy, but I thought in the pen and paper version there was no such thing as a fraction of a point of essence; you either have the whole point or you don't have the point at all.

To be somewhat fair, the Burned-Out Mage available via the Nephilim Network has 6 essence/magic and he has a datajack installed, so there may be a bit of play the designers considered in terms of the cost to a mage getting a datajack. Or it could be an oversight. Either way, I like the direction this mod takes things.

Ok, for those of you wanting an editor free experience, have gotten the modded version of DMS up. You can just download it and play.

The cyberware items are in ???\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\seattle\data\items

Looks for things with names like datajack.item.bytes and obvious cyberarm 2.item.bytes

You can edit .bytes files with gibbed's editor, or just make (item name).item.txt files in text format. Packs that have been 'cooked' can't accept dependencies on .txt files, so if you want to use your modded content in DMS, you'd need to get your files into .bytes format.

how do you modify the cyberware? I'm trying to do a story that requires me to do that.

Sigh, my modified version of DMS is finally ready to go and I'm hit with the Steam bug where you can't publish anything. Will keep trying.

Do I just copy the files into the shadowrun core folder?

I think the problem with the essence affecting spell times is that it penalises low level spells disproportionately. With only one essence loss from a datajack a spell with 0 cooldown goes from being castable three or four times a turn to once. The time for a spell with one cooldown is effectively doubled. Should a single datajack really be halving the utility of some of my spells? That's a huge penalty, and there needs to be some way of having something more fractional.

I support the intent of this mod.

[continued] am working on a modified version of DMS that will integrate all these mods, hopefully some people will play it and comment on the balance between different things, when they are all together in one place. Wanted to take a look at gun balance too, but haven't build a shooting range mod yet, that lets me look at the exact effects of quickness, dodge, ranged combat, body, armor, critical hets, etc yet.

Yes, problem is the current rounding problem with the engine. I assume there will be an eventual big fix that will keep fractional essence costs. Same reason I chose to make 'alpha' ware add additional capability for the same essence cost as normal ware. So that you wouldn't end up in a place you couldn't get your ware updated, because the engine was rounding your essence off. Also had problems with the high value of the quickness stat. Was thinging about implementing muscle replacement / augmentation, but that adds quickness, which adds to both to hit and dodge. The cyberwear is supposed to be balanced vs an adept or vs a mage. So I wrote magical tattoos to try to give adepts a leg up with the parts of the engine that I could do something with, and that wasn't completely contradictory to the lore. Then wrote this mod to try to reign the advantages for cyberwear in a bit and make for more interesting choices available as well.

I'm a great fan of your other resource packs, but I do feel the zero-essence datajack (and rounding off all costs, in general) goes against the source lore a bit too much. There is supposed to be a cost in essence (and my decker-mage happily pays it) for replacing meat with cyberware. I think the cost really oughta be closer to 0.2, but it does drop effective Magic score from 6 to 5. The trade off? You get another 0.8 essence to play with before feeling any further effects. The temptation to dip further into 'ware is there for a reason, and supports the Burned-out Mage concept. What I'd really like to see is more fractional essence costs for various minor boosts, not the dumbing down to whole numbers.

Anyway, my 2 cents.
Crusher Bob  [author] 5 Aug, 2013 @ 11:29pm
The 'cost' of being a decker is in the karma you spend to buy up decking skills and in the nuyen you spend buying decks and programs. A mage, adept, or shaman who also wanted to be a decker would have to spend the same karma and nuyen to become skilled at decking. In addition, there's now the option of the encephalon, which costs one essence and gives improved decking skills. So the decker that decides to pay one essence and use up thier jack slot will be better than the one that just uses a 0 essence datajack.

Datajack at 0 essence cost removes the whole argument of why a mage would bother to BE a mage... LAME. Make a decker.
Crusher Bob  [author] 5 Aug, 2013 @ 11:17pm
Either unzip the pack data into the pack you are currently using, or edit the pack you are currently useing to have a dependency on this pack. Then, find the cyberdocs in the pack you are using and add the cyberware to them. The pre_made merchant lists should make this easier.

fantastic mod! But how do we load these in game.
TheycallmeQ 5 Aug, 2013 @ 5:35pm
Thanks! I wasn't happy when my mage/decker lost an entire essense point for a simple datajack, silly rounding bugs.
