Updated the description of the mod to clarify that it's abandoned. I didn't update sooner as I honestly thought I would never even touch the game again, let alone making new mods for it and put myself back on the radar.

"Note: The info here is wrong a bit, so grain of salt the values in here until I can correct it. Keep playing with it until you find the old color you like."

It has been almost 4 years, have you still not been able to correct it?

Is this compatible, with Jack and Jill? I'd love to use both together :)
edujas 7 Sep, 2021 @ 7:22pm
@2Cool4u first load this mod in first load, open the map (choose the color if is hair of the skin), close the map, put the other mod first and this mod in second (for me works)
LuckyOwl 7 Sep, 2021 @ 5:43pm
does this mod work in second load order, I need another mod in the first one
edujas 28 Jan, 2021 @ 3:28pm
This mod works with the mod Difficulty 8+?
Digi 28 Dec, 2020 @ 5:15pm
Really the only problem is I have my textures, theyre edited, I just dont know how to insert them back into the game. From what I gather I have to edit the materials to point to my new mod, but I dont know how to instance said materials in one folder, rather than editing the files directly.

Would you mind if I added you so we could discuss not in steam workshop messages?
Jelly Gecko  [author] 28 Dec, 2020 @ 4:34pm
Note that UV Map information comes from the model, not any particular texture file. Think of it like figuring out how to sew fur (the texture files) onto a plastic teddy bear.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 28 Dec, 2020 @ 4:32pm
There's more to it but those are the big 3 things when it comes to dino and character textures. ARK also has colorization maps which are obviously unique to ARK, and are documented here: https://sites.google.com/a/studiowildcard.com/ark-dev-kit-documentation/assets/colorization
Jelly Gecko  [author] 28 Dec, 2020 @ 4:26pm
If you wanna mess with textures, then you would be dealing with Materials and all related concepts - diffuse maps (color map, this is what we typically think of as a "texture file"), UV mapping (how textures wrap around models), normal maps (gives the engine lighting info, this is how high resolution details are preserved on low poly game models and generally fakes physical detail)
Digi 28 Dec, 2020 @ 4:04pm
Ah, so this was more editing the shades of colors dinos can spawn with, rather than changing the dino textures themselves. Thanks anyway!
Jelly Gecko  [author] 28 Dec, 2020 @ 3:58pm
Player hair and skin colors work very similarly, and are similarly defined in Primal Game Data. This is why this mod has to be core as currently implemented, because there is nothing out of the box in the dev kit to define "Additional dino/skin/hair colors." The first mod in the load order wins for establishing what these values are and overwrites the rest, if there any 2 mods trying to alter the same values.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 28 Dec, 2020 @ 3:55pm
@Digivee Gaming - every mod's Primal Game Data file has information about the colors dinos can spawn with, Primal Game Data is what actually defines the RGB values for light yellow, dark orange, black, white, etc.

The red-green-blue values are listed as a float, 0 = no color (0.000001 would be the darkest black color you can achieve) and 1 appears to = 255. I say "appears" as UE4 lets you push color numbers past 1.0 but I haven't observed much demonstrable effect, save for just making something outright luminous if you're pushing pure white.
Digi 28 Dec, 2020 @ 3:22pm
Would you be willing to explain how you did this? I've looked high and low, but I cannot find any working texture editing tutorials.

If need be, I could add you and we could discuss in DMs.
The Rango Mango 25 Jun, 2020 @ 8:22am
I can't even explain how badly I wanted red hair color to be an option since it's my color IRL and just not in vanilla ark.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 20 May, 2020 @ 4:39am
Err, I should clarify - when I say access colors, I mean as in using scripting to alter them. Rather than just punching in some numbers.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 20 May, 2020 @ 4:38am
Yeah, admittedly trying to figure out how I'd even begin to approach that was part of what broke me on ARK modding lol. This, along with struggling to figure out how to integrate deeper hitting concepts like new team types into the core game. Stuff that frankly only really works as a core or total conversion mod.

I'd need someone a lot more into Blueprint engineering than I am to make the color mods stackable. I'm not sure how to access color definitions from Blueprint and the nature of the ARK Dev Kit makes testing that much more difficult than other concepts.
TigerJCMugen 20 May, 2020 @ 4:19am
@Jelly Gecko: It's all good man. No pressure. You do what you need to do to grow. Mod still works like a charm for me. Just looking forward to when it becomes stackable. :)
Jelly Gecko  [author] 20 May, 2020 @ 4:16am
@Uncle Samsonite (lol @ the user name) - I gotta admit that I've been MIA from ARK Modding entirely. Been focusing on training up 3D modeling skills.
TigerJCMugen 20 May, 2020 @ 2:57am
You still working on this mod Jelly?
Dindunuphen 5 Mar, 2020 @ 9:46pm
Does this mod add color variety as well like orange and blue or green and (pt wing) pink? What maps does this work on? Will my dinosaurs keep their colors when transferred to other maps and sessions with this mod downloaded?

My luck with mutations is absolute trash and bland with the standard mutations list and other color mods don't mix colors together to make the maps feel more alive.

Best bet is to uninstall and then reinstall. Sometimes mods out and out corrupt or other things go wrong like that.
MasterBLaha 30 Jul, 2019 @ 9:33pm
It seems since the last patch this mod no longer works and or I'm not seeing any cool new colors on Dinos even after Dino Wipe, was working great before... I moved it to the top of the Mod list but still isn't working on Server?....
AkiTsuki 18 Jul, 2019 @ 3:19pm
works with eternal mod ?
Chinese Name 14 Jul, 2019 @ 9:24am
i didnt know that

oh thanks @kittenscreed
kittenscreed 12 Jul, 2019 @ 11:41am
@Theburritogaming there is no 'using' the mod in the sense you're thinking of. It changes in-game values automatically, so any of your dinos with certain colors will now be slightly different. Essentially, it's replacing existing colors to make them look a little more natural.
Chinese Name 11 Jul, 2019 @ 3:22pm
Oh wait, I think the mod just changed the color of my dino on its own. But, can someone still please tell me how to use the mod?
Chinese Name 11 Jul, 2019 @ 3:19pm
Do any of you know how to use the mod?:steamsad::steamsad: I want to change the color of my pteranodon, but, I don't know how to use the mod. :steamsad:
Harshmellow 7 Jul, 2019 @ 8:38pm
Ooooh yea. That would explain it. It also seems to be particularly favoring the bright red and blue combo so half the dinos look like spiderman XD
Jelly Gecko  [author] 7 Jul, 2019 @ 5:06pm
@Dovah.Queen - there's an event going on atm, that's why there's a bunch of goofy colors spawning in the game right now.

I wanna figure out how to copy what they did with an eye for injecting less silly colors into the game :D
Harshmellow 7 Jul, 2019 @ 11:36am
I seem to be having a bit of an issue with dinos spawning with gaudy bright red, blue, magenta, etc instead of the more natural color palette in the screenshots. The mod is first in the load order. I am using Kraken's Better Dinos but as far as I know that doesn't alter dino colors in any way.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 5 Jul, 2019 @ 2:58pm
I'm also interested in creating config options that make it so that creatures roll for new colors if you blacklist them, with global and specific blacklists.

"Global" meaning never allow dinos to spawn these colors.

"Specific" meaning never allow dino X to spawn with these colors.
Jelly Gecko  [author] 5 Jul, 2019 @ 2:49pm
Haven't forgotten about this mod, just realizing that what I need to do is figure out a way to setup additional colors and somehow add that to creature in the same style as event-dino colors.

So that way we have a permanently bigger rainbow than in vanilla with an eye for expanding the options for naturalistic colors, rather than a shifted rainbow.

just great.
Tesseract4D2 21 May, 2019 @ 8:45am
Will this remove cleanly if I decide to do so? I'm running Classic Flyers currently (considering switching over to Naj's though) but nothing else that affects dinos
nevcairiel 30 Apr, 2019 @ 6:10am
At the current time I'm not running another core mod, so fixing the mutation color bugs would do it for me, but in the long run being stackable would definitely be nice - but I do recognize the challenge for sure!
Jelly Gecko  [author] 30 Apr, 2019 @ 1:36am
Yeah, I've been looking at my options and realizing I set myself up for something very unusual and difficult to tackle; the answer of "How do I make a color alteration/addition mod stackable" is a strange one indeed.
nevcairiel 29 Apr, 2019 @ 4:29pm
This looks really cool. I was looking for something to make dino colors overall nicer, and from the screenshots this looks really good. And red hair is just a bonus!

If you could figure out how to make it stackable (since oftentimes more then one mod wants to be first), and resolve issues with mutated colors going wrong, I would slap this on my server instantly.
Kando 20 Apr, 2019 @ 4:21am
Can you add a yellow color or change the originals please because original yellows (4 and 11) are too vapid.
