Missing descriptor file

!99 Trait Selections Someone feel free to let me know if this one works properly or not ;-;
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 23 Sep, 2021 @ 7:24pm
Ok I got no idea whats going on. I deleted the mod v2 mod and yet it still shows up in my launcher even though it does not exist in the mod folders.

I made a new mod naming it 99 Trait Points to just try to upload a new mod and it wont upload.
I think thats because when I first updated this one recently It was named Points instead of Picks so its now linked the 2 together.

I made a new test mod just to test my ability to upload and it uploads just fine.
Deleted everything in the "Point" name version of the file and it wont upload...

Gonna try to make a new mod with a new name (which is stupid) and see if that works... Will link if it does..

Also when I update this one it keeps breaking the description. This is absolute bs :steamthumbsdown:
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 23 Sep, 2021 @ 7:05pm
Well I managed to change the name somehow... I tried to make a new mod and move the files over then link the new mod to this mods id and it still didnt update.

So I removed the id links and tried to upload it again but now the id is tied to the mod even though the mod has nothing in its files that link it back to this one.

Thanks, I know how it works to upload a mod though. All of this file is laid out the same as others.

It updated just fine yesterday and despite what the launcher tells me, the files steam download appear to be the updated version.

Idk if it will help but I did manage to find the original folder. But in all honesty it should not help much.
CrustulumDraco 17 Sep, 2021 @ 1:15pm
the second .mod is the same as the descriptor.mod, also you have to write into it where it can find the picture so that it is actually used
CrustulumDraco 17 Sep, 2021 @ 1:12pm
I took a look at your mod. The common folder, descriptor.mod and thumbnail should go into their own folder and there should be another .mod folder with the mods name, those two go into the mods folder/a folder to be uploaded as a mod
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 17 Sep, 2021 @ 8:26am
Ive tried to upload the mod here like 5 more times and while it keeps saying its uploaded its not actually going through it seems.

When I sub to the mod, the file it gives me is the updated version. But it rarely shows up in the launcher and when it does it says its missing the descriptor (which its not) and that it was made for an older version (which the descriptor file fixes to 3.1.*)

So if it shows up in your launcher and says that, try it and let me know if it works.
But in the meantime for those who are having issues Ive had to resort to uploading it to Paradox workshop and you can grab it here !99 Trait Picks [mods.paradoxplaza.com]
Rhalic 17 Sep, 2021 @ 1:51am
Im having the same issue with the descriptor file, then I tried unsubbing and resubbing but now the launcher isn't recognising the mod. :(
Vanilla 16 Sep, 2021 @ 8:18pm
I was having issues trying to download it. It went into the steam workshop folder but the paradox launcher refused to accept that it actually existed.
I ended up just copying the files and making a local mod. It's extra work, but it functions perfectly fine that way.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 16 Sep, 2021 @ 8:18am
Ok well then, is the mod file a zipped up file or is it no? If its zipped then its the old version without the robot change thing but if it is not then u should be good no matter what the launcher says.
mark07 16 Sep, 2021 @ 8:15am
well still no change
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 16 Sep, 2021 @ 7:53am
Another mod wouldnt cause this issue. This is just a steam or paradox launcher issue.
The one in my launcher showed up the same so I unsubbed and resubbed and it has given me the file in steams mod folder but doesnt show up on the paradox launcher.

You could unsub and go into steams mod folder to see if the mod is still there and you could delete it then come back and resub.
mark07 16 Sep, 2021 @ 7:48am
yes I did but nothing changed, maybe done by some other mod
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 16 Sep, 2021 @ 7:43am
Have you tried unsubbing and resubbing?
Or unsubbing, restarting steam, resubbing?
mark07 16 Sep, 2021 @ 5:21am
I have weird problem launcher writes that this mod does not have descriptor file and supported version is 2.6.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 15 Sep, 2021 @ 9:25pm
I added the lines to those and the bio thralls from Superior Species. Should work proper now.
Thank you Swagrid :LotusFlower:
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 15 Sep, 2021 @ 7:08pm
I'll implement the fix once I find where I stored the mod sorry >.<
Swagrid 15 Sep, 2021 @ 2:21pm
Should look like

ROBOT = {
species_trait_points = @robot_trait_points
species_max_traits = @robot_max_traits
robotic = yes
}
MACHINE = {
species_trait_points = @machine_trait_points
species_max_traits = @machine_max_traits
robotic = yes
}
Swagrid 15 Sep, 2021 @ 2:20pm
Had the same issue, managed to fix it by adding the line robotic = yes under machine and robot in the 00_species_archetype file
Kien 15 Sep, 2021 @ 11:41am

You are very much welcome :LotusFlower:
Stotin 17 Jul, 2021 @ 6:49pm

Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 13 Jul, 2021 @ 4:24pm

Big Brother Max 12 Jul, 2021 @ 9:37am

Nickster 20 Jun, 2021 @ 12:49pm
Ooooh, me likey.
Hit by a Parked Car 25 Apr, 2021 @ 12:35am
Oh, by the way, I actually have it working with no modifications. Thanks!
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 23 Apr, 2021 @ 9:58pm
Sounds like a launcher issue. I know I have had terrible trouble getting mods to work before. I think I had to unsub, exit and relaunch steam and resub before the launcher applied it..
Cr'ic 23 Apr, 2021 @ 3:55pm
i got it to work have to remove it and re sub but from time to time sens update it keeps happening
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 23 Apr, 2021 @ 1:50pm
Maybe later. It still works atm so no need to update.
Cr'ic 22 Apr, 2021 @ 6:03pm
i love this mod but can you update this it say missing discreption file
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 22 Apr, 2021 @ 6:38am
Its a zip because it was made back when mods came through the workshop like that. There are other older mods that I still use that are zips that still work so being zip has nothing to do with it.

I just subbed and activated it and it worked just fine. This mod only changes the number of trait picks to 99 It doesnt add any traits or anything.
Are you sure your number of trait picks have not increased?
Kalshion 19 Apr, 2021 @ 11:22pm
Nope, it does not. Even when loaded by itself with no other mod, nothing is added to the game. I did notice that it seems to be downloaded as a .zip (where-as other mods are not) but I even tried unzipping it into its own folder just to see if that might help and no go.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 18 Apr, 2021 @ 9:42am
should
Hit by a Parked Car 18 Apr, 2021 @ 3:05am
Does this still work on 3.0.1? Just checking
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 11 Apr, 2021 @ 7:52am
Should..
ZreyRash 11 Apr, 2021 @ 2:49am
is this working on 2.8.1 ?
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 31 Dec, 2020 @ 5:44pm
Necroids should work just fine. YOu dont even need to uptick the file to get the game to reconize it. The game already reconizes it. Its can be ignored usually safely.
Darkbentley 31 Dec, 2020 @ 12:20pm
it really depends on the mod, but stuff like this shouldnt be affected when updating, only thing that i would be careful with is the necroids, i dont use them or have the dlc so it wont impact my game.
So users usually can just uptick the file in the .mod file and .description file to get the game to recognize it again.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 17 Dec, 2020 @ 9:18pm
Cool, thanks for the info :LotusFlower:
Luxalpa, Tail of Devastation 17 Dec, 2020 @ 6:14pm
There's a program called "git" that you can use to always have your files at the correct version with proper history and everything. It's pretty easy to use + you can use it to upload it to github if you like. Just look it up, it's incredibly useful for modding and programming.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 17 Dec, 2020 @ 4:45pm
Git? Github? Only Git I can think of
Luxalpa, Tail of Devastation 17 Dec, 2020 @ 2:43am
@Cephalon Sithalo check your mod files into Git. You will never have such a problem ever again.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 25 Nov, 2020 @ 7:46pm
@Charles I know thanks though. I just dislike having to update it especially since my mod files are scattered across multiple harddrives lol
Charles 25 Nov, 2020 @ 5:31pm
@Cephalon Sithalo I think you can actually hide it for your mod. Change the version number to 2.8.* and the launcher should screw off for all versions that fall into the 2.8.whatever category. You may need to open up the mod descriptor file to do that as I am not sure if it will work through the mod creator interface.
Dr. Gottlieb 29 Jul, 2020 @ 7:43am
Because people need to check whether a mod crashes their game, doesn't work anymore or something along that line.

But i agree that this is something that the user needs to do, not the mod author.
Popo Bigles 29 Jul, 2020 @ 7:15am
I see nothing wrong with the warning sign. I don't understand why it bothers so many people.
Cephalon Sithalo  [author] 29 Jul, 2020 @ 7:07am
That only happens if the game has a change in it that conflicts with the mod.
Like if they change the way something is done in the code like when they added district sets.

Other than that. That little warning on the launcher means nothing and I wish they would just allow us to hide it.
