Had unsubscribed thinking, yes let us take our chances and have some variety. Then every one, let me repeat, E V E R Y S I N G L E O N E rolled a bad blade. Give me a break from the stupidity! And it is not like I have hundreds of iron that I can just throw it away by making more Kris units to keep trying my luck. I agree ... historical reasons aside ... in a game like this the idea is just stupid. I am back to subscribing.

by the way, thank you very much for making such mod. i can play as Gajah Mada without issue now.

"Why did no one make this already? Better question, why the hell did the unit ever have bad promotions in the first place? That's just stupid."

the reason is probably mostly based on legend and folktale in indonesia that the "Kris" dagger may give you either a blessing or curse to its wielder since its a mystical dagger.

Historical perspective aside, having a unit become permanently weakened disrupts the flow of gameplay ands maes Indonesia that much less satisfying for many people to play. I prefer the idea of a variety of balanced traits, like an increased attack with decreased defense or an extra attack with decreased movement. Or, alternately, the "bad spirit" could drain HP to 1 on a bad roll instead of making the unit a lingering disgrace.

variety is the spice of life and no variety is better than nerfs

The reason why Kris Swordsmen had these promotions is because

1. It's historically accurate - Kris were spiritual and were revered, a kris with a good spirit will bring good fortune while a kris with a bad spirit will bring misfortune

2. Considering the potential outcomes from the Kris, it's a "Go big or go home" "Roll the die" "Lucky 777" type unit, if you have a Kris Swordsman with Invulerability + March + Cover while in your territory, you might as well call it a turtle/tank

I've had 4 Kris Swordsmen over the course of my Civ career. Twice they've gotten Evil Spirits. So fuck that jazz, subscribing.

@gia it's hard to play defensively if your unique unit has a 30% defense penalty.

@satdanov
I'm aware, but I don't care. It is horrible game design to make a unique unit that can be negative.
Robo-Pig 15 Dec, 2013 @ 6:10pm
You might want to read the historic info behind this unit. The Kris blades were said to bring bad luck sometimes.

those weaknesses are so you play defensive, not warmongering

Funny things this, the two games I played as Indonesia I was on islands and I never encountered any iron, so I never built a Kris Swordsmen! By the time I got Iron I was in the Industrial Era and was pumping out Musketmen.

ok
Keukotis  [author] 2 Sep, 2013 @ 1:27am
Um... Indonesia only exists in Brave New World. So... yeah.
Sanguine Raven 2 Sep, 2013 @ 12:33am
is it for g&k or bnw
Zark 1 Sep, 2013 @ 8:20pm
I like it when Civ tries to add in random or situation based elements, but they really cocked it up with Indonesia. They're virtually unusable outside of maps with plenty of either fresh water or islands. They really don't need such another basic dice roll to not go in their favor, especially if it risks their UU being a liability rather than a bonus. Thanks for this mod!

I totally agree with you....
Keukotis  [author] 31 Aug, 2013 @ 1:16pm
All the bad promotions did was weaken the AI Indonesia. Human players can just reload the game and get one of the good ones. Additionally, the "really good" promotions are balanced by the fact you've still only got a 1/6 chance of getting them.
Kevin Norton 31 Aug, 2013 @ 6:36am
it is what balances out the kris swordsman + it adds a gamble to the unit to risk getting a bad promotion even though the good promotions are pretty good.
Darth Krayt 30 Aug, 2013 @ 10:58am
don't swear
Eclipse 29 Aug, 2013 @ 4:41pm
Thank You! I have been plauged with an entire army that got these 2 promotions before. All 13 of my Kris Swordsmen got one or the other, ruining any hope i had of holding off a very aggressive Hunnic army.
Silverfishv9 29 Aug, 2013 @ 10:27am
I will be ready "Noah" because this game needs more challenge! I say you should halve the amount of good promotions instead, so that it's even more challenging! Unless this is for when you're playing against Indonesia, then it's fine
Massengale 29 Aug, 2013 @ 8:12am
hey can u make a mod getting rid of science penalty for number of cities
YeenBean 28 Aug, 2013 @ 6:11pm
"It makes the game more challenging" if I hear anyone say this, I will find you...
seancolorado 28 Aug, 2013 @ 2:03pm
I hope this is in the fall patch. The negative promotions are completely pointless
