Such a ridiculously simple idea and yet works beautifully by sheer physics. I ended up going with 4 gyros pitching in 4 different directions instead of 1 pitching and 2 yawing because I couldn't fully grasp what it was doing but roughly understood the concept :steamsad:

Typhon you obviously commented without trying it

On a side note just cause it works in your own server, does not mean it will work for others. As you can not replicate another server's settings, or even if there using mods or such. I would suggest building it and testing it in vanilla solo survival rather then saying, well it works on my server, as proof that it works. This kind of testing should help find any problems, and make the blueprint better.

Okay I can understand this using gyros to align solar panels, but gyros only work so much and are not good for all situations. Which makes me wonder if this is a creative only thing or not. As it doesn't behave like it's survival ready, which a few of the previous comments highly suggest. Noting connector issues and a bit more.

Hi I tried making my own version of this. I'm having some issues with docking other ships.
Since Gyros operate around the center of mass off the ship, there's always an off axis to the rotation, meaning there's movement around any connectors. I've tried putting the connectors as close to the axis of rotation and on a rotor, but docked ships will still be dragged with slight movements.

Is there any way to avoid this sort of thing? (Relatively new to the game)
Are there other mechanisms of docking that I could look at?

The only thing I think is msising, is a way to tell those devices to "stop". Like if the sun is rotating fast and you just want to become stationary to allow a ship to dock at your station.
Now that might be tricky. It needs to be a seperate grid to work. An antenna would only be powered while it is rotating. You would propably need a timer spamming hte signal to the device to have any chance for it to hear you when it maters. And then it might miss the order to turn back on again.

But I think I found a solution taht is about as simple as the original:
Add 1 Sensor. 2 blocks range. Detect: Turn off Gyros. Undetect: Turn on Gyros.
Now the ship this is attached to would only have to move something in front of the sensor (piston, hangar door).
If it is powered and the sensor goes active, it will stop the gyros.
If it is powered and the sensors goes inactive, it will start the gyros (if not already).

Is this a civilvan ship?

de-sync has never been a problem im useing this in a server now with no problems

Reminds me of "Gods of Eypet".

After careful research of the build i noted it is in fact 3 grids. For servers that can be a problem (as de-sync can cause chaos with this setup that the server might not be able to handle). The main station is the primary grid while the two sub-grids are connected via landing gear. It is a simplistic I/O system with the input being the presence of light and the output being motion on the related axis the light is present on until the input stops (which also stops the output). Still genius but probably less viable for dedicated servers.

So i proposed it to a major server and so far it seems ok but they want to know if a rotor was used in the creation. Obviously having subgrids in a server can lead to issues.

this is a really smart way to get a solar tracker.

\/ what he said!

Woefully underappreciated and underutilized. This design is so masterful and smart that it makes scripts to do the same thing look outright stupid and over engineered. Not only does this work perfectly and fit nearly all server rules but it also performs it's job with no maint checkups since it is script free. This would prove great for anything from a ore processing facility to a sensor station node to set up a decent range grid for long range drone and radio abilities. My hat is off to you!

You should rename it to the mind blower XD

Amazing creation! the mechanism is quite simple, but quite advanced at the same time!
I would love to see more creations like this!

thank you for taking the time may be this will put soller power back in the game

Great thanks for taking the time to give us a tour. Really had a mind blown moment with its simplicity but complexity all at once.
