It has been some 6 years since I last look at the code with some attention and I am not willing to check all the implications of the code in this mod. Right now I am implementing Corruption in Dark Ages... for CK3!

From a very cursive look into the code and if you want to get rid of murders and spouses events, go to the events folder and delete dark_ages_assassination.txt as well as dark_ages_spouses.txt. Maybe some stuff also in the decisions folder, but you need to check within each file. If this generate bugs, errors or CTDs I am not at fault... ;)

want to reduce the complexity of the UI, so I want to delete features like SPOUSES_EVENTS and MURDERS. Should I delete which files or statements?

thanks

@what can i say

Dark Ages for CK2 is compatible with everything.
what can i say 30 Jan @ 6:02pm
Is this compatible with improved_genetics 2.0 ?
Cardolam  [author] 26 Jan @ 2:15pm
@The social reformest

Dark Ages doesn't change a line of vanilla code, so it doesn't touch vanilla mechanics. It is other mod that is causing you pain.
The social reformest 26 Jan @ 12:19pm
This mod changed matrilinial marriage. Very disappointing as now you cannot collect bloodlines, also the lawlessness mechanic is tiring. Why is a war which is taking place many counties away effecting my county which is totally at peace. Conflicted about this mod.
Cardolam  [author] 21 Dec, 2024 @ 4:51am
@Litz

On the contrary, Dark Ages is totally compatible with HIP. I am a big fan of it and certainly always played with both, among many other mods.

In fact and given how it was coded, I assure you Dark Ages is compatible with any other mod out there.

Check your installation before posting false info.
Litz 20 Dec, 2024 @ 10:44pm
Isn't compatible with HIP, crashes after couple years making the save corrupted and no longer being able to continue. (Yes I did try to play it with only HIP and this mod)
DCH3 7 Dec, 2024 @ 1:59pm
Ropestring coping and seething instead of deleting the event files lmao
Cardolam  [author] 24 Oct, 2024 @ 3:50pm
@Sullis

My bad... ;)
Sullis 24 Oct, 2024 @ 3:38pm
Comments like those do not deserve acknowledgement, Cardolam.
Cardolam  [author] 24 Oct, 2024 @ 11:16am
Looking better at the script and FYI, besides coding the system to turn off once the mastermind dies - so, at most it lasts one generation - there is also a maximum duration for the criminal organization to last for 7300 days. After that point, an event with an MTTH of 1 year will eventually fire, ending the criminal organization. In the end, it lasts even less than one generation as the maximum duration of the criminal organization is close to 20 years.

Finally I politely invite you to stop your line of argument about this issue as it will not lead us anywhere.

Thank you.
ropestring3 24 Oct, 2024 @ 9:35am
You are clearly not very intelligent. my character died twice and I still have the event, s yes it is multiple generations. what would be my motive in lying on this?
Cardolam  [author] 24 Oct, 2024 @ 8:41am
It is not possible for your experience to last over "multiple" generations as the mod is coded in a way to pick a mastermind in the beeginning and when he/she dies - if before then the sittuation has not cleared itself - the criminal organization finishes business with the player properly informed of the fact. So, in stating you experienced the existence of a criminal organization over "multiple generations" you are lying .

It is not about standing criticism but instead amputating the mod of one of its features, because a single user feels ridiculously entitled to unceremoniously demand the removal of a feature praised by other users before and for about 6 years now.

As far as being a terrible game designer you are entitled to your opinion. Designing games most assuredly for longer than double your age to the delight of so many people, not that the opinion of an entitled kid even scratches my skin.

Have a nice day.
ropestring3 24 Oct, 2024 @ 8:04am
So now I know you are a terrible designer because you can't handle criticism.
Because you called it a 'tantrum' when anybody says a slight part of your mod isn't so good

MY CHARACTERS went through multiple generations, and the criminal lasted a while.

Sorry kiddo but im not reading a guide book to a very mid mod. especially one that constantly begs for donations when it is so low quality
Cardolam  [author] 24 Oct, 2024 @ 3:43am
Of course I am not going to remove the criminal ring implementation due to a tantrum by someone without the least idea how to address the issue and even lying on top of it all.

Criminal rings cannot last "generations" because the mastermind - someone on your court with questionable personality traits - eventually dies, if you were unable to solve the issue before. So, the lie.

I recommend you read the Guide to Dark Ages available in the link of the mod's description. Moreso, you should pick the best option to address the problem by reading the relevant tooltips in the options.

This was coded many years ago but if I recall correctly, the average time to hunt the criminal ring was about 7 years.
ropestring3 23 Oct, 2024 @ 9:20pm
It has cost me thousands of gold, piety, and prestige. It is absurd.
ropestring3 23 Oct, 2024 @ 9:10pm
PLEASE REMOVE THE CRIMINAL RING EVENT CHAIN
It just spams you with endless negative modifiers and stays for multiple generations.
Cardolam  [author] 2 Aug, 2024 @ 4:45am
@ Stoonk!

Sorry to read that. So far no complaints have been made about it. I invite you to play Dark Ages for CK3 as Dark Ages for CK2 is not supported anymore. As a plus, there's no Criminal Ring in Dark Ages for CK3.
Stoonk! 1 Aug, 2024 @ 6:02pm
Am I missing something? The smuggler/criminal ring that drains all your gold forever makes playing smaller nations unplayable. Forces you into toruring and killing randoms because it lasts forever and drives you insane, making your character cruel
Cardolam  [author] 17 Mar, 2024 @ 10:27am
@Mundus

No, Dark Ages for CK2 is compatible with every other mod out there as absolutely nothing in the base game is changed. I encourage it to be paired with HIP for the greatest play experience in my opinion.
Mundus 17 Mar, 2024 @ 10:06am
Hello, does this mod have any known incompatibilities with similar mods like VIET?

I have a friend who I recently got into the game, he's playing with mods and says he's crashing every, roughly 2 hours or so.

Any way I can go about helping troubleshoot?
Mr. Gooner 17 Feb, 2024 @ 10:51am
lol i just saw this and went to comments and the first thing i see is someones profile is the Sicily flag lol

@puttmartin14

Thank you for your kind words. Enjoy!
puttmartin14 4 Feb, 2024 @ 2:02pm
Amazing mod, adds so much interesting content to the game. I especially love being able to frame people and all the new decisions that come with it.
Cardolam  [author] 7 Jan, 2024 @ 4:39am
@georgiaboy4

Thanks for the report. Happy gaming!
georgiaboy4 6 Jan, 2024 @ 7:12pm
@Cardolam: Found the issue if you wish to fix. It is in the file dark_ages_diplomacy (events folder)...under the "Create non-aggression pact" subheading. I deleted that 11kb script and the error disappears in the log. No more memory eating script.
georgiaboy4 6 Jan, 2024 @ 6:27pm
@Cardolam: CK3 is a kilometre wide but a centimetre deep with a lot of repeated content. Your mod WILL help greatly, but CK3 has a ways to go.
Cardolam  [author] 6 Jan, 2024 @ 4:57pm
@georgiaboy4

Don't have a clue sorry. I don't develop for the mod for some years, so as you might guess I am at a loss.

Thanks for the support, glad you are enjoying! If you like this mod, try Dark Ages for CK3.
georgiaboy4 6 Jan, 2024 @ 4:50pm
@Cardolam: Typing as my dog is pesting me...Running just your mod clean (clearedout gfx folder)...get the following error in the logs which repeats with time:

[effectimplementation.cpp:2030]: Non Aggression Pact Opinion Effect doesn't have an origin description

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
P.S. GREAT mod!
Cardolam  [author] 17 Dec, 2023 @ 2:50pm
@Sullis

You need to have wards of at least 6 yo or have focus Scholarship or Theology while not having other lifestyle traits. Then, cross your fingers for the event to fire. It is a very rare prospect.
Sullis 17 Dec, 2023 @ 11:40am
How do you get the tutor trait? Great mod.
Cardolam  [author] 23 Nov, 2023 @ 6:54am
@commanderjap

Thanks for the kind words.
If you own CK3, check the Dark Ages mod for it.
commanderjap 22 Nov, 2023 @ 6:14pm
This mod is very great! It's like a complete dlc for ck2 but for free!
Cardolam  [author] 23 Jul, 2023 @ 7:23am
@The Semnate

I have moved to CK3 and released Dark Ages for it recently. I am not supporting Dark Ages for CK2 anymore.
This being said, I am sure your issue has nothing to do with the mod. Dark Ages for CK2 doesn't change a single line of vanilla code.
The Semnate 23 Jul, 2023 @ 7:01am
When playing multiplayer, alliances are weird. I was playing last night with a few friends, and when I sent an alliance proposal to my friend, he did not receive it, the AI automatically rejected my proposal. He then proposed an alliance to me, and I did not receive any events or prompts. Instead after a few days the AI accepted it for me. Could this be changed?
Cardolam  [author] 24 Jun, 2023 @ 4:24am
Dark Ages for Crusader Kings 3 has been released. You can check it
here !
Cheran 3 Jun, 2023 @ 5:23am
@cuman khan
They are in the file dark_ages_family.txt with the ids darkages.7266X (and darkages.72659), where X goes from 0-8, I think.

These events - "A Parental Gift/Curse" - give the offspring the chance of gaining or losing stat points depending how good or bad their parents stats are.
And with 5 or more stats for every child it is getting annoying reading the same messages over and over, if your ruler was very successful in seduction or if they have lots of wives/concubines thus lots of children.
Cuman Khan 2 Jun, 2023 @ 9:05pm
@Cheran what is the event you’re talking about? What exactly does it do, I don’t recognize it.
Cuman Khan 2 Jun, 2023 @ 9:01pm
I want to use some of the really ingenious systems you’ve added like the alliance system and the appaling traits and what not.
Cuman Khan 2 Jun, 2023 @ 9:00pm
Haha I was talking about ck2 dark ages!! And a ck2 mod I’m making !
Cheran 2 Jun, 2023 @ 3:27pm
It will certainly help.
I know the event id through the debug mode. But google search doesn't gave me that particular piece of code, or I'm just blind and didn't see it. Many thanks. :)
Cardolam  [author] 2 Jun, 2023 @ 2:44pm
@Cheran

I have no clue about what event you are talking about but to hide an event in CK2 you just need to insert a line in the event just above the trigger section with the text:

hide_window = yes

It is a matter of finding the event. You can do that by making a search in the loc files with a part of the text of the event, look up the respective tag and then searching in the events folder for the same tag.

Hope this help!
Cheran 2 Jun, 2023 @ 2:26pm
No problem.
Maybe I can find a way to do it myself, I'm too lazy to read code right now. Maybe changing the message target to the child instead of the parent, so I will never read them? Just talking to myself.
Cardolam  [author] 2 Jun, 2023 @ 2:20pm
@Cheran

Sorry to read that but for more than two years now that I ended development of this mod.
Cheran 2 Jun, 2023 @ 1:55pm
Is there a way to change the events "Parental Gift/Curse" into background events? Having a ruler with 30+ children, the endless messages getting on my nerves.
Cool mod nevertheless.
Cardolam  [author] 2 Jun, 2023 @ 6:29am
@Cuman Khan

Lol! It's too early to see if you like it, much less what you want to include in your mod... :steamhappy:
Cuman Khan 1 Jun, 2023 @ 4:51pm
Awesome excited to see it. By the way would you mind if I included some stuff from your mod into mine? I’d give credits of course. This mod really inspired me to start my own project, based around making the game more historical and difficult.
Cardolam  [author] 31 May, 2023 @ 3:58am
@Cuman Khan

I'll probably release it during vanilla 1.9 timeline. It is already uploaded to Steam, so I can launch it whenever I feel it is ok. Right now it needs to be extensively tested with version 1.9 of the game.

In a departure from my approach to CK2, expect a mod that is about rebalancing vanilla, turning it more challenging, while adding content that helps increase roleplay and emergent stoytelling.
