For some reason in the first room, the raising pedestal doesn't drop the blue cube. I can't progress without that
SpL15 30 Nov, 2023 @ 2:40pm
OMG, the 4th room took me days. I had to watch a little bit of a walkthrough (up to a certain point where my route was starting to deviate, the rest I figured out by myself) since I was walking in circles for hours. Still, another great challenging map. The solution wasn't as complex as I thought, so I'm kinda dissapointed in myself for having to check a playthrough, even if it was for just a snippet.

@Spider_Dawg Amazing work completing this behemoth of a map! I'm not sure what bug caused that behaviour, I hope it didn't impact your experience too much :]
@Mr Fab Your playthroughs are still in my watch later list, I'll get to them eventually :cozycrashfish:
Spider_Dawg 2 Sep, 2023 @ 10:45am
Great puzzle. One weird thing I've found is that sometimes the button comes up as expected and other times it doesn't .
Mr Fab 15 Dec, 2022 @ 12:19am
That was an awesome map ! The 4th room was so hard but so great too. This was a challenge  Favorited !

@Xayiver Thank you so much for the kind words! Superb work solving this set of very challenging laser puzzles. I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed it :D
Alric 26 Aug, 2022 @ 1:52pm
Beautiful map! No doubt my favourite laser-oriented map. It perhaps cured my phobia of abstract laser puzzles :D The solution to the 4th room is stunningly clean (especially in contrast to the terror inducing steps I envisioned when particularly desperate!). Thanks for creating it, I enjoy the occasional not-in-moderation brain smoke :cozyjunimogreen:
Mikeastro  [author] 19 Mar, 2021 @ 5:57pm
@Narkodes Thanks a lot :D And excellent work solving it - as you might have experienced, that's not an easy task. I'm happy to see that some players returned to this one eventually. I'm glad you liked it :cozycrashfish:
Narkodes 19 Mar, 2021 @ 5:14pm
Great map! BEE clean not so great.
...
The first 3 rooms are good... But room four is definitely one of the most interesting laser puzzles I played so far. I like the two parallel white wall surfaces with the yellow and the blue fizzler, alternating between those two was neat. And the last cube respawn (green) was very satisfying. Huge thumbs up.
Mikeastro  [author] 15 Mar, 2021 @ 3:40pm
@Libbybapa Thank you very much for playing, and excellent work solving it in the end! I appreciate your tenacity :] Your unintended solution indeed contains an interesting sequence, be it with some super tight angles. Perhaps it could be worth thinking about how to force both to create something truly monstruous... Anyway, I'm very happy to hear that you liked it :D
Libbybapa 15 Mar, 2021 @ 10:43am
Ha, never mind. SuðuSigfús already posted that solution.
Libbybapa 15 Mar, 2021 @ 9:46am
Here's an unintended solution. https://youtu.be/JgCw8793wAw I really liked that sequence also and would like that last room even more if somehow the intended solution relied on doing that sequence first (obviously without the tight cube placements, though). I haven't been able yet to think of a way to force that and the whole intended solution without at least a couple more items and 3 more connections, though, which wouldn't be worth it IMO.
Libbybapa 15 Mar, 2021 @ 8:50am
Great map! I played rooms 1-3 when it first came out but took a break before room 4. That break took a long time as did room 4! Great job on all of it!
Mikeastro  [author] 22 Feb, 2021 @ 1:46am
@I'm an Albatraoz Haha yeah the cube tosses and walking through the fizzler while carefully aiming the laser cube are indeed not intended. Still, there are definitely also a number of very promising moves in your video. I have no doubt that you will be able to solve it in a perfectly clean way :]
Teresa 22 Feb, 2021 @ 1:03am
https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1R54y1e76E?p=4
part 4 absolutely unintended, and after a long time I still cant solve this.:GDIcon:
Mikeastro  [author] 18 Jan, 2021 @ 2:43pm
@SuðuSigfús Thanks a lot for playing and for the video! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed it. Of course, the angle at 2:37 is quite tight and is unintended - my fault, not yours. Well spotted. The last room is indeed quite difficult to solve, so excellent work :]
SuðuSigfús 18 Jan, 2021 @ 10:47am
That was a tough one, I recorded my solution for the last chamber which took me awhile because I kept forgetting what move was next lol. I found an unintended solution, Its similar to one of jorics but still slightly different. Anyways thanks for making, I´ll be checking out more from you in the future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y772FHRZt4o
Nobody No-One 6 Dec, 2020 @ 9:55am
Just resolved this and I noticed that I never commented. The fourth room is still one of the best "pure laser" maps I've seen.
Mikeastro  [author] 27 Nov, 2020 @ 7:33am
@P75Formula Jr Excellent work solving the third room! It's definitely not easy to achieve that, so well done! But again, beware that the fourth room for many has proved to be yet another step up in difficulty... And once more, good luck :D
A05Polzar 27 Nov, 2020 @ 6:55am
After taking a break from Portal 2, I come back to the third room, but still couldn't solve it. Then after I woke up I had an idea that worked well in my head, but failed in practice. Then after performing a cube swap and moving a few things around the final steps became clear to me and now I've finished the third room. Now I have a feeling that I can finish the fourth room by the end of the decade.
Mikeastro  [author] 8 Nov, 2020 @ 2:32pm
@P75Formula Jr Ah, I see! Just for the record, none of the rooms require lasers through portals at a non-90-degree angle :] Anyway, excellent work making it past the first two rooms! But beware, the third and especially the fourth are very difficult... good luck :P
A05Polzar 8 Nov, 2020 @ 2:04pm
I just finished the second room (which me took longer than I would've liked), but what I did was strange so I checked the solution video. It turns out that although the basic idea behind what I did was there, I ended up executing it in the most over complicated way I could have. I awkwardly positioned my portals cubes, and the laser so that the laser was redirected through the two portals to hit the catcher next to the door. :steamfacepalm: Now I just have to solve the third and fourth rooms.
Mikeastro  [author] 6 Jun, 2020 @ 5:52pm
@Spacekitty Thanks a lot :] Excellent work solving it again! I'm glad you still liked it as much
SpKi 6 Jun, 2020 @ 11:06am
Oh, turns out it HAS been seven months. I thought I played this last December, but nope, November it is :p
SpKi 6 Jun, 2020 @ 11:04am
Since I am going through my collection of my all-time favorite maps and this one being featured in it, I played this one again. It has almost been seven months. Even this time it took me around 2 hours to complete the map (with around one and a half hours spent on the last room) and I think that goes to show how complex this puzzle really is. Just before replaying this, I was like "It's a rather small room, it can't have been THAT difficult." None of that, it's just as tough and challenging as I remembered it to be, mostly because of the subtle changes of puzzle states and the ungodly amount of possibilities which can send you down the wrong track very easily. Either way, I'm happy I solved it this time without hints, having forgotten most of the solution. Thanks again :]
Mikeastro  [author] 22 May, 2020 @ 7:37am
@Towelie Clegana Excellent! I'm glad you stayed around to find the intended solution. It is definitely one of my, if not my, hardest puzzle. As I said in the description, I got quite lucky with this puzzle - I had the layout before I knew the solution :P Fortunately it all worked out in the end
Towelie Clegane 22 May, 2020 @ 6:22am
how did you come up with those puzzle ???
Towelie Clegane 22 May, 2020 @ 6:05am
finally found the intended solution. it was so easy idk why it took me months. i got to say that was the hardest puzzle ive ever seen tho.
Mikeastro  [author] 2 May, 2020 @ 8:22am
@Towelie Clegane As I said, none of the solutions require off center portals and grabbing cubes through fizzlers, but still, well done reaching the exit - it is definitely not easy. I think my map Mirror Symmetry is a possible example of a fairly difficult map without any coloured fizzlers and a fairly simple layout, so you could consider giving it a go :]
Towelie Clegane 2 May, 2020 @ 7:51am
im wondering, do you think you could make a puzzle that simple but that hard to solve without the use of colored fizzler or other hammer only tools?
Towelie Clegane 2 May, 2020 @ 7:48am
id like to say that i completed your puzzle. i used some off center portals and grabbed a cube trough a fizzler for the last part tho
Mikeastro  [author] 2 May, 2020 @ 7:39am
@Towelie Clegane Hmm, that doesn't seem right... The intended solution requires no non-standard moves. Just putting down cubes redirecting lasers, no quick things or grabbing cubes through fizzlers.
BehindPortal 27 Apr, 2020 @ 2:38am
first two rooms are solvable for me , but rest 3 and 4 is out the box. :p2cube:
Mikeastro  [author] 12 Jan, 2020 @ 4:05pm
@Rain Excellent work solving the first three puzzles! They are not easy at all. Indeed, the last puzzle in this map is very, very difficult. Good luck in your future endeavours :]
µ 12 Jan, 2020 @ 3:54pm
It is a very interesting map!
The first, second, and third rooms were cleared, but unfortunately the fourth room was not.
As expected, the level of difficulty of 7.5 levels was enormous.
I'll keep trying and clear!
Mikeastro  [author] 27 Dec, 2019 @ 9:31am
@camerson1313 Thank you very much for playing. It was really interesting to watch you bravely tackle this monster of a map over the course of three videos. I'm really glad you enjoyed it in the end :D It is definitely really difficult - I feel like I got extremely lucky to find this puzzles, especially the last one. Anyway, thanks again :] I still have quite a couple of yours in my queue, and I still plan on sometime recording my run of the true version of QO17.....
camerson1313 26 Dec, 2019 @ 11:07pm
This map is really something special. No funnels, light bridges, faith plates, or even (weighted) buttons, just pure laser logic. And yet, the puzzle is so hard, and so non-linear that it's difficult to tell when progress was made. It's been a long time since we've seen a puzzle involving a "timed exit door run" concept, but this is easily the best one of those we've ever seen. We recorded our blind run(s) .
Mikeastro  [author] 23 Nov, 2019 @ 4:39pm
@Spacekitten97 From what I can tell, you cracked this one all by yourself. The knowledge that you are on the right / wrong track is about the smallest hint you can receive. On top of that, at the 2 minute mark, the subtlest moves had yet to come. Excellent work making it through to the exit. This last room is definitely one of my most difficult puzzles. I'm really glad you liked it in the end :D I really appreciate you playing my puzzles
SpKi 23 Nov, 2019 @ 3:49pm
Alright, after spending probably over 10 hours on that last room, I took a peek at Joric's walkthrough since I just couldn't take this anymore. I watched to the 2 minute mark before deciding to do the rest myself, which I managed to do in the end. The thing is, I was in the exact same situation once shown in the walkthrough at exactly two minutes, however I was not sure if I was on the right track which unfortunately caused me to give up on this setup too early. This map is absolutely genious, its all pure and clean logic. Thumbs up and definitely added to favorites.
Mikeastro  [author] 21 Nov, 2019 @ 11:29am
@Spacekitten97 Excellent work solving the third room so quickly! Yeah, the last puzzle is really difficult. Here is a hint in case you want one:
The ending sequence will be the same as in the third room; that is, respawning the green cube out of the way of the laser, changing its path. The problem is that the laser doesn't reach the green cube respawn area. However, cleverly preplacing the third cube in the exit area could solve this issue. Try to work towards realising this set-up (this is not easy to achieve)
SpKi 21 Nov, 2019 @ 11:08am
Ok, so the third room was surprisingly doable and I did it rather quickly. However... that last room is a nightmare. I have tried every single combination of swapping the cubes as far as I know, some of which almost worked out, but in the end, there was always something that messed everything up. I'm starting to run out of ideas :p
Mikeastro  [author] 18 Nov, 2019 @ 11:14am
@Spacekitten97 Yeah difficulty ratings can be deceptive. You can get stuck on a less convoluted puzzle for a long time and some other time fly through a very complex one. In this case, I think the first room, feeling so similar to the second, kind of messes with the player :P Anyway, the third puzzle shouldn't be too hard, but the last puzzle in this map is really quite difficult to solve. All I can do is to wish you the best of luck ^_^
SpKi 18 Nov, 2019 @ 10:36am
Okay, just wow. So far I have completed the first two rooms and they took me what felt like an eternity to solve; I was missing out on the final step in the 2nd room for a looong time which caused me to go in neverending circles. Funnily enough, the 2nd room has caused me more trouble than Point Symmetry even though that has a 6/10 difficulty rating while the 2nd room here only gets a 4/10 :p. Anyways, Im pretty scared of these next 2 puzzles... this is gonna take a while. Really clever map so far though.
Mikeastro  [author] 11 Nov, 2019 @ 5:03am
@asears16 Thanks a lot for the video! Really fantastic work solving this monster of a map! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. You are really too kind in the description :D
asears16 10 Nov, 2019 @ 2:53pm
It took me several days, but I ultimately managed to complete this insane map. The final puzzle would have been a great map by itself...fantastic work!

Mikeastro  [author] 4 Nov, 2019 @ 3:59pm
@Spider_Dawg Haha thanks, that was indeed what I was going for :P From here on out the logic should get somewhat more complicated, so I hope you're up for it >:]
Spider_Dawg 4 Nov, 2019 @ 3:45pm
Only played the first 2 parts so far, but wanted to say that I really like the way that they're exactly the same only different.
nock 28 Oct, 2019 @ 3:53am
Very very nice. I really like that you re-used the rooms and made slight tweaks and changes, which really changes the solution and makes you think. As for the final room, that was something, although when you break it down, there's only certain moves you can make at each step to be able to persist the state so it's a matter of trial and error to a certain degree.

PixelPerfect 25 Oct, 2019 @ 4:00pm
I tried using a custom track on p28 bee2, but there was no music in the map. Great Music, though!
Mikeastro  [author] 25 Oct, 2019 @ 12:36pm
@PixelPerfect Thanks! It took me a fair bit of trial and error as well to get the music to work. You could try aerond's music changer, which you can find online. Alternatively, if you want to create your own kind of package, you could download my music package (link on my profile) and replace all the files (images / samples / tracks) by your own. Then you must edit the info.txt file for each of your tracks so that the game knows what to do. It should be fairly straightforward to correctly edit the file as it is surprisingly easy to read, but if you still run into problems, let me know and we'll take a look. I hope this helps :]
