omfgffgfgfgf guysssss the bots can now guard the trenches like proper ww1 dudesss.
I am working on a new trench map (its much simpler yet much more detailed). THE BOTS WORK!!!! I posted summ screenshots as proof (they are the latest). The map will have to wait whiles though because every detail I add corrupts the AI pathfinding so the process is quite tedious. sorry the map couldn't get out on christmas, or new year's.

I love this map but the team who manages to cap the middle always wins. Could you make a version with the middle flags removed?

It's just so hard for anyone to make good maps because the AI doesn't behave the way it would need to for maps like this one to behave as they should.

@bouggus_bark I have a decent computer. The problem isn't so much your map it's the poor optimized AI in Ravenfield and it's inability to behave realistically.

Doesn't work, the bots on both teams just rush towards the center, completely ignoring the trenches.

Honestly, it's not as cool as I thought it would be. Plus, it doesn't even work that well. The only team that ever plays on the attack is red team. Blue just sits back and relaxes while red team racks up the points. The AI needs to be better. The map could also use some character. The land is completely barren.

Somewhat lacking in sandbags, and barbed wire around each trench. But other than that? Quite good.

k, added soume pikjures lol. I'm tired. also, is it bad that I showed other people's stuff for the screenshots? IDK shet about laws on the internet because I'm like 14 and my education is provided by incompetent boomers who also don't know crab about internet laws or whatever. also, @ThatOneDragon idk how to fix that. I made it so that bots who spawned on the right side of the system could pathfind to 'em, it even shows it on the navmesh. they just don't wanna so sad. I too, cry to this.

@Wolffe Commander this will be done with my (hopefully) future map that will use assets in the lines, cover points in the front, little to no use of av boxes, and of course @Socracle space of Zepplins.

I do not plan on releasing the next version on this page but for the time being, I am collecting more feedback (from you guys) and doing schoolwork which in America, succs.

@Yul Rave (starstrafe) If you do not place av boxes (inside of the trenches), then the bots will eventually use only one branch of the trench system to make travel more efficient. It basically becomes a battle that happens in one very concentrated point, starting and fishing from a very concentrated line (like a line of marching ants which is too predictable). I wish this wouldn't happens so, the bots may never be able to follow the player "freely" in neither of the trench systems on this map.

but yeah, adding more assets for "aesthetic" purposes does sound better, but wouldn't work for the shape of the terrain for this map -i'll make another-

Wow, thanks for the list of procedures for making a trench map. I haven't played yet or followed the procedures, but I wonder how the bots behave in an "authentic trench map"? How will they leave the trenches and how often do they, if at all? Will try soon, but I think I won't be able to learn the answer unless they don't ever leave the trench, which is suggested in the procedures to not happen.

another suggestion I would make is getting the eagles to be in the forward trench to defend, instead of the bulk huddled around the flags, not contributing to the defense of the trench

this map has potential, but it feels, "empty". More trenchlines and things would make this map a great ww1 map. You got the main premise, and I like your bunker placements too. Reminds me of Verdun's maps. Please improve and make more maps like this!!

Something i always say about AV boxes; basically don't ever use em. If you need to restrict bot movement, do it with something visible that blocks the player too, so as to avoid instances where the player screams at the bots "WHY WONT YOU FOLLOW ME??" or some such.

All that jazz about using a thousand avoidance boxes and multiple flags mashed together is a perfect example of massively overcomplicating a simple problem.

The trench dilemma comes from the fact that bots walk up terrain slopes, ignoring the safer dug-out paths. Yes, painting the terrain with AV boxes keeps them in their shallow wells, but you know what else does? Using objects. Bots will never climb up an object with a seep enough slope, unlike with terrain, which occasionally fails to stop them from skipping up a a cliff face.

And it just so happens that there is half a page of editor props that have the word "trench" in their name.

Simply build up a trench with those trench walls etc, and you will have made something aesthetically superior, much easier to edit, and that doesn't separate the player from their squad should they decide to walk up an innocent-looking slope with invisible AV boxes
