this is an interesting character. whereas for most characters you would want to get more cards of a single archetype, for this class you want to diversify your deck. have too much piety and you will lose to bosses. have too much fervor and you will lose to hallway fights. have too much tithe and you won't have enough gold. have too much gilded and you will cripple your deck. also, adding block to your enemies is the only real build and even that does not work too well.
also i cannot get past the first boss with this guy
glennvtx 28 Dec, 2024 @ 11:06am
how many cards does this guy have?
Freshmaker 12 Feb, 2024 @ 9:24am
Great artwork, fits very well with the game, but I just cant play him for some reason. All achievements and A20 on every standard character, but i cant get past second boss on A0 with this guy. I feel like i found some synergy, but never got far enough to see them actually at work. After 10 tries I'm just going uninstall it.

Hey if you're still around, do you happen to have the source code available on GitHub? I'd like to make a few balance changes and it would be much, much easier if I had the source to work with without having to reconstruct everything.

Follow-up: this character is so fucking cursed in its design - I love the ideas played with a corrupt church that actually gains power from absurd riches. Frightening. Silent Hill biblically accurate angel meets Wario.

One of the best. Creative as hell, wonderful artwork, great concepts/conceptualizations... :morte::silverdollar::leatherneck: doseone as hell...

There are things I like about this character, but it feels like there are just too many different ideas that need specialization to be viable. Compared to the Hermit, or the Cursed, I don't feel nearly as much like I'm choosing between different possible paths, and more like i'm desperately hoping for the right cards to appear.

Piety in particular is an amazing idea that never feels quite as fun to play as it should. The mod just feels a little busy - I feel like dropping one of the ideas might help (doubloons? maybe just keep the "hoard" mechanic but not doubloons?), for me at least. But other people clearly adore it as is, and I agree it's chock-full of cool ideas, so just my two cents.

虽然玩起来是很好玩,但是感觉平衡太差了
明明感觉卡组很厉害就是连第一个BOSS都打不过

Hands down one of the most 'out there' class designs, but man is it fun!
With the Hierophant, the player often has to approach common situations differently, and there's alot of room for experimentation and synergy crafting (especially with replay the spire installed). For example, I had an energy relic from replay the spire which would spawn an enemy orb each fight. The orb would steal cards and gain block each turn thereafter, which is pretty annoying in the average case. Buuuuut, by stacking community powers, I just sapped the armor from the orb each turn and became a super tank! That's a synergy I had with this class that felt truly special, and that just scratches the surface of what the Hierophant can accomplish. It is loaded with interesting standalone mechanics, but becomes AMAZING when combined with other quality mods.
BarbedShoelace 10 Sep, 2021 @ 12:24pm
I love it but it's the stupidest most broken thing ever.
Like, every single deck Hierophant has is not just strong, but so broken you feel like you cannot lose.

I can't remember how many times i one shotted act 3 bosses.
Fervor needs to be retuned, so does piety, and dobloons deck end up being broken just thanks to remorse, which has no business being that broken for a common card.

This could be the best StS mod around, if it was actually balanced
Amarandus 25 Mar, 2021 @ 2:46am
This mod is amazing, as an Orzhov player I cant approve enough (especially with the art). Though I am curious if it purposeful that thieves get away with your money when losing to piety? I almost feel like they should be guilty enough to give it back >.>

phenomenal mod

This ranks the highest custom character for me even over the cursed and the hermit. The character and card design utilize many mechanics that exist in the game while introducing new ones and are all brilliantly created. The character feels powerful but balanced. The central theme of the character (money) is consistently portrayed in all its cards and abilities. Card combos are extremely satisfying and there are enough synergies to build different decks around (doubloons, using enemy block against themselves, piety, fervor). The card artwork is also visually consistent and stunning. If it were not stylistically different than the base game artwork I would expect this character be integrated into the base game. Must-have Slay the Spire mod for me.
Filmatra 10 Jan, 2021 @ 8:29am
I had a lot of trouble with piety until I realized that it's not usually supposed to build up and take out enemies from any stage of a fight like poison, but is instead more of a finisher when a monster's health is low. Plus, it evaporates summoned creatures like nothing else in the game, except for maybe "Corpse Explosion."

Just an awesome character mod. Card interaction and design is top notch and diversity is great as well. Thanks for your contribution to the game!

I just reinstalled Slay the Spire. Not to play silent, or defect.... no, but because i wanted to play the hierophant once more. This character should be in the main game!

Awesome character. Thanks for the work.

The mod is great, and the character is a lot of fun, but it's very disappointing that there isn't any victory art.

Same here, congratulation on this character design (both illustration and gameplay) !
threefoldmind 21 Jun, 2020 @ 7:43pm
Dude this character is so amazing, like genuinely my favorite StS character modded or otherwise. Where did the inspiration come from.

This mod is absolutely excellent, many thanks

It's nice to see a less overpowered custom character, but this guy is SO WEAK.

fiery strike didn't count on a strike card.
Blood 26 Mar, 2020 @ 4:05am
I played with this character over 10 times and lost every time, I never made it to act 3. I tried to make a doubloon deck every time. Should I avoid doubloons at all cost? What am I doing wrong?

很棒的MOD,但是有些翻译错了:cozyjunimogreen:
Corax  [author] 24 Mar, 2020 @ 2:59am
I would say don't stress out about losing piety, and find ways to exploit the amount you have or that you gain every turn :)
Corax  [author] 24 Mar, 2020 @ 2:59am
A deck that uses primarily (or only) piety is going to struggle against bosses, that much is right. By design, Piety excels against hallway fights while Fervor is amazing against bosses. Going too far into either direction will lead into a lopsided deck. In practice, you have to mix and match strategies.

All of that said, there are a few ways you can beat the game with a piety-only deck. I have done it myself in A20 and I know other players that have done it multiple times; the Korean twitch stream "cbrace" has a few amazing piety only runs.

To make a piety focused deck work, you need to use certain "payload" cards, which you can find at every rarity. You have Smite at common, Repentance, Exaltation and to a lesser extent Pristine Soul at uncommon, and Anathema at rare. The idea is not necessarily to build piety until it exceeds the boss's max HP, but to use cards that key off Piety values to soften the boss until its HP meets you in the middle.
OptimusPrimordial 22 Mar, 2020 @ 6:32pm
How are you meant to play with piety? I like the idea of the mechanic and was able to take out starter level enemies with it but I couldn't do anything against the first boss. Every boss has over 100 hp yet even this number would see you lose 33 piety every turn. The very best I can do is 45 piety if I were to somehow get and upgrade 3 cards which give 15 piety and do nothing else. This dream scenario would still see me getting smacked to death.
In reality I need to play other cards to stay alive which means going backwards on piety or playing a block card which gives a worthless 3 piety per attack received.
OptimusPrimordial 22 Mar, 2020 @ 6:32pm
I go through several shops looking for a card to negate the piety loss but only see card after card which adds negative statuses or dead draws doubloons. Even if piety didn't evaporate and cards gave enough of it, all of these are immediately worthless dead draws as the last thing you want is even less consistency at piety generation.

Maybe there's a way to make this work I'm missing but it seems like if this key doesn't show itself in act one you aren't beating any act one boss with a piety deck.

@유하수 언락포인트가 모드에서 동작하지 않기때문에 처음부터 모든 카드가 해금돼있습니다.

DJDiceZ 4 Mar, 2020 @ 7:55pm
Actually it seems like the issue i mentioned below is only visual, so that's good, but strange. It only appears as such when viewing the out-of-combat deck
DJDiceZ 4 Mar, 2020 @ 7:42pm
Hey, neat character. Runs are a bit hit or miss though, you tend to be either way too strong or not enough at all. I also have an issue with repressed violence: When i came back to an ongoing Hierophant run, they lost all their stacks, so i pretty much ended up with 1 damage cards instead of 50 or so at the end of act 3, can something be done about it?
Bernos 4 Mar, 2020 @ 12:28am
I think the mod needs to be updated for unlock sto work. Only way i've gotten them to work on old mods is to beat the final act. Only then does it seem to register for some reason.
x!te 26 Feb, 2020 @ 10:37am
Amazing mod, but unlocking cards doesn't work. You don't gain anything when you finish a run.
Asriel 25 Feb, 2020 @ 7:52pm
Yep card unlock doesn't work at all atm, will try ascention 1 to see.

@Corax I have tried Fervor decks now with Embezzled Solar Flares coming out of a Snecko Eye, and it went quite well. Fervor definitely feels like a stronger mechanic with interesting things happening around it, but I still feel completely incapable of getting any kind of piety deck rolling. There's a fun character here but it feels like an entire portion of his kit is themed around trying to push a mechanic that i just cannot make work.
Corax  [author] 20 Feb, 2020 @ 4:10am
@Mrmac23 have you tried a fervor build? :)

Many people have beaten a20 Hierophant, and it becomes relatively easy to do thousands of damage with a single attack when you exploit Fervor, especially in combination with Tithe. I recommend you try a build with either Solar Flare, Wrath of God or Purify (all three rarities), and cards that generate fervor. This is one of the easiest setups to melt bosses with!

Generally Fervor makes it really easy to beat bosses and elites, while piety helps with corridor encounters. Keeping a balance between the two (or opting out of either altogether) is a big part of the challenge of building strong Hierophant decks.

Good luck!
Mrmac23 19 Feb, 2020 @ 8:17am
I'm trying so hard to enjoy this character, but he just feels so, SO fucking weak. The Piety mechanic feels like it completely collapses against any kind of elite or boss, and none of his other cards feel like they have the power to actually beat down bosses before they scale out of control. I've given the dude 9 runs now, and 7 of them have died to the act 1 boss because every single deck archetype that seems to be usable is just pitifully slow-paced.
Dustin Gagnon 15 Feb, 2020 @ 6:10pm
This has quickly become one of my favorite characters to play with. Act 1 can be a bit of a struggle if you don''t get some synergy in your deck but once you do it is very fun.
Kharnax 15 Feb, 2020 @ 10:19am
And right after i write that, i go and beat the hearth with it! I guess I need to spend more time on that one to learn the ropes. Very well done mod, But still not sure about the balance! :) I think that Glossolalia unupgraded is pretty much unplayable.
Kharnax 15 Feb, 2020 @ 7:35am
I know i probably suck, but damn! Is it just me or is it hard to win with that mod? I played 5 games and didnt even get past act 1 after beating the heart with all 4 main caracters. :\
pipai 12 Feb, 2020 @ 12:42am
@Corax It seems like Display of Power sees X cost cards as always costing 0, is that intended?
Tafnir 5 Feb, 2020 @ 5:28am
Ah, I see! Thanks for clarifying. :steamhappy:
Corax  [author] 5 Feb, 2020 @ 2:26am
@Tafnir

Hey there! Thanks for checking it out :)

Unfortunately no, the Medici family (while really cool) was not part of the character's inspiration. The original inspiration was actually Spanish conquistadors, juggling the themes of conversion, greed, and carrying way more treasure than you should ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Noche_Triste ).

Initially the visuals were going to be more conquistador/inquisitor centric, but I found that amazing art and I had to use it.
Tafnir 4 Feb, 2020 @ 5:39pm
@Corax
Hey! I checked out this mod at the recommendation of a friend and, after feeling EXTREMELY confused about the general theming (and slightly getting over my hesitation on spending gold on energy with Tithe), one of my friends asked if this character happened to be at all inspired by the Medici family.
Is this true? If so, that's amazing. If not, then it's a funny coincidence.
