Also me: *makes a Christian colonial empire for the 500th time*
Re-editing the codebase is going to be time consuming; I'm taking a break as it's disheartening to do little but bugfix for a year. But the next update honestly looks nothing like the 1.29 version - I want it working and released.
Hopefully once EU4 is done being worked on it'll be easier to get everything working too. The longer I'm not able to freely make content for this mod the longer my list of planned ideas gets. Once I'm done with these technical difficulties I should be working quickly again.
With the upcoming rework to the region, the balance of power is seemingly tipped in the favor of Nyarys (being renamed to Nevskydder) to unite the region on the test build. My plan will ultimately be for Rodjmlad to have a unique path to forming a united "Rodija" that'll be the easiest and most common sight alongside seeing a settler state succeed occasionally. I'm also going to try and blend the gameplay styles of natives and nomads with the Bulgars, with Yani Ulus being the best Bulgar candidate to unite with. While there's no canon for anything that happens past 1444 in Christianity Besieged, I'd say it'll be as likely for the region to unify as it is to not. 1444 CB Russia is going to be a pretty diverse place with a lot of different players, so ideally it'll be balanced to be really snowbally to whoever gains an early advantage over their neighbors. If nobody gets that early edge then a massive Russia-esque state would be unlikely.
The biggest changes coming are in Europe, Asia, and North America. Europe is getting new countries especially in the north, east Asia is getting its first change (with a broken up China being the first step), and North America is getting reverted to vanilla so I can "re-do" the continent with the new mechanics. There's gonna more idea groups and mission trees since the mod is finally getting there. It's just a matter of finishing up new content and fixing Leviathan bugs (:
Also lots of new religions. Riothemite Christianity, Hanafi & Muta'zila Islam, Cisarstvo (Moravian imperial cult), Rodoftar (Norse-Slavic hybrid faith), a ton of indigenous African faiths from Challenger and zebenji's mod, Chinese Manichaeism, an East Asian Islamic sect, Anglic and British Saxon indigenous faiths, and maybe some I'm forgetting.
Here's a super tentative culture map to follow along: https://i.imgur.com/9vp6J1X.png
TLDR: The Norse come later. Right now they're Norse, but they'll likely still become Russian, but given the circumstances and different time period Russian culture simply presents itself differently.
Muksha Ulus: (Far away??? I could barely find instances of this word) People
Basharids: the word Başar means Victorious (as in the action of victory in a game of sports for example, without any time context)
Ulug Ulus: I think this means like, the top/main head of the turkic people? Ulu can loosely mean powerful
the Qara and Aq Qoyunlu guys are probably already known but just to clarify they mean Black and White Sheep respectively
I probably made some mistakes here but this is the best I can do
second side note; I'm no expert with languages and their construction whatsoever but I speak fluent Turkish so there's that. I could send a steam friend request for more organized input.
Borisoglebsk could be Kurdomaniya, as the word Boris's origins could possibly mean Wolf, which the Turkish word for it is Kurt, and Gleb might have meant something related to god, so if they're Manichean, it would be replaced with Mani; and ye is sort of like the "ia" which goes to the end of names. If not Manichean, just put Tengri (Kurtengriya) as Tengri is literally what the god was called of their religion, as reflected by the modern turkish name for Lord in general Tanrı.
Riliz/Rilizk for Rylsk as a turkification of the name.
Vörneş, Turkification of Voronezh.
I usually just try to be as accurate as possible and then get corrected on silly mistakes, so I'm not totally sure where your resources would best be used. Anything you find in general that you think warrants change, especially related to etymology is totally welcome, and I can clarify any questions.
But I am reworking Russia, with lots of provinces missing Turkic names, so ideas for names would be great! You could also do some of the countries: https://i.imgur.com/Yi2OcTo.png Here's a sneak peak at Russia, but it's a WIP, with a crude outlined of the Turkic countries. The Bulgars of the north would speak an Onogur Turkic language while everybody else would be speaking mixes of Common Turkic; an Oghuz language spoken by the Yiva and Bayandur of Qara & Aq Qoyunlu, or possibly they'd have picked up from the Common, mostly Kipchak and Mongol influenced dialect of the Ulug Ulus. There's a lot going on there so any ideas are welcome. (:
As far as the Turkic portion, which would have come under the influence of the Golden Horde/Balik Khans through conquest, I'm on the fence if I want to keep their name, give them a Turkic/Balikli exonym, or just scrap them entirely.
@potatogamer110 Also my apologies, I failed to mention but I made a suggestions page if you wanted to put any of your name suggestions in there - a lot of Turkic stuff due to change so I'll let you know if I've changed anything you suggest already.
As far as where, it's usually a lot easier to discuss ideas in discord, but if you'd prefer otherwise I could set up a discussion thread to keep your stuff organized.
As far as contributions go, the majority of discussions about the direction for countries happens in the discord channel, so that's the best place to be if you want to be a part of that. Once the project is enough off the ground and has a well-established basis, or it becomes too much a challenge to continue updating with my schedule, I'll definitely be porting everything over to github. However, despite my schedule these days being ridiculous I don't see myself giving up anytime soon. (:
ok thanks just wanted to let you know
I've got a bug channel in my discord (link in the desc), but just commenting on the page works perfectly fine. And my apologies, I fixed this earlier but then I had to revert and must've missed it. I'll push a fix later today, I've got some weird extra random content I can add with it (though I've been slow at actually finishing the Mediterranean update :p).
Thankfully, that's the past and I'm finally getting to missions and national ideas, though I've just gotten extremely busy as of late. I've been getting a lot of great outlines from contributors and hopefully, over the next few months, it'll start coming to life.
Turkey is Europe
@Ulmese Inquisition Appreciate the support, it's awesome to hear it's been such a great experience for ya. Though we've still got a long ways to go (:
@Dovah This should be fixed, my apologies for not mentioning this sooner. This lead me into a sinkhole of trying to fix some other names but the scholarly world is trying to make me pay for Phrygian names :p Thanks for the help!
