Sometimes for unknown reason only some promotions work but not others. quick dirty fix is to add all promotions to future tech also, ensuring that eventually carriers will have all promotions.

That issue has always been the case, for as long as I can recall. I think its a base game code limitation issue rather than a mod specific bug, as to the best of my knowledge the base game has no upgrade unit for the aircraft carrier and thus its likely there wouldn't be any code for safely upgrading it as a result.

If you're using either of the Warfare Expanded mods (Reloaded or Complete Edition) in the mod description it specifically indicates that this is a known issue and the only known work around is to remove all planes from the carrier before upgrading it. I know its not anywhere near as convenient as desired, but its better than losing them all (especially if they're experienced units) and having to replace them.

I have no ideas I'm sorry to say. If you've tried everything to resolve the issue and it still hasn't been cleared then I have nothing more that I can suggest might work. Let's hope that Flactine has a look at the files soon and can replicate the issue so as to figure out how to fix it permanently.

That is very strange indeed! Have you tried deleting the Civ VI cache folder to clear all residue files left from this mod and any others you've previously unsubscribed from? That may help to resolve your issue, otherwise I'm at a loss as to what could be causing your issue for certain or even how else to resolve it; it's something I have never experienced or even heard of before!

@kordiej95: That makes absolutely no sense; all this mod does is alter the promotions xml file to change how promotions work for aircraft carriers based on what I've seen looking at the mod's files. I'll wager that you've got another mod that is causing the issue, probably one that alters resource requirements for units somehow.

@Herp: There's a link on the WE: Reloaded page to a discussion forum where the solution to the issue you're having is located and explained. It'll require you to be editing 2-3 files including an SQL and a MODINFO file though, so if you're unfamiliar with how to do that you can find helpful and informative guides on the CivFanatics Civ VI forums to follow to do it safely.

Hey, @Flactine so for the last couple of days i have been trying to find what mod was conflicting with Warfare Expended:Reloaded and I believe it is yours. It is stopping certain units from being upgraded for example it stops Composite Archers from being upgraded to Yeoman Archers. I am aware you have said it does support the Warfare mod but does this mod also support their Medieval and Armoured DLCs?

There is a fix Captain, which you can find looking at the discussions section of the WE:CE page, though just FYI you'll need to look towards the end of the discussion to find the useful and relevant information for fixing the issue, and it requires a very basic amount of knowledge about using an app like Notepad++ in order to implement it properly.

Oh, and adding to what Dante.Enoshima said about Warfare Expanded there's a new standalone version of Warfare Expanded, called Reloaded, which has replaced WE Complete Edition.

Hmm... is it possible to also add description of what tech will unlock what promotion, just like GDR in tech tree's description? Also in WE's page there's a fix for compability with this, so you might want to update the fix

Honestly, I think every unit in the game should gain promotions this way. Like, dotted throughout the tech trees, there should be "leaf" techs that are completely optional, but grant promotions as you research them. I really do think Civ would benefit greatly from a Branch and Leaf system like Beyond Earth had. The're were a lot of good ideas in that game that I just don't understand why they were entirely abandoned.

I hadn't heard about the Warfare Expanded mod until I read it in your description and now I want to try it out. But in the comments there they're saying that your update didn't completely resolve the conflict issue. Hizkiyahu posted a fix in one of the discussions, but it's getting a bit above my comprehension. Just wanted to draw your attention to it. Thanks again!

This is genius idea, I love it!

Are there any other unit types this might make sense for? Adding abilities to scouts for example rather than gaining manoeuverability with xp.

@Moyocoya So Civilization VI need an ARES, too.
(ARES is a platform for Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, it changed the whole game's engine, and do many thing, include "Aircraft Carrier can earn expenience from it's planes".)
