Paintable Blocks [0.7.1]

I think there's probably multiple bugs going on. Is it just specific blocks with texture issues? It could be the fault of the blocks, and not the paint mod.
Klyis 16 Jul @ 8:41pm
@Johnbeere I ran some tests in a world with only this mod (both with and without its dependencies) loaded. In both cases I still encountered texture glitches on some blocks, so I don't think the issue is exclusively caused by using other mods.
Johnbeere  [author] 24 Jun @ 5:27pm
That's a glitch with the game caused by using mods that load too many textures into the game. Wolf's mods are especially bad about using tons of textures.
craigroaring 24 Jun @ 5:03pm
Love this mod, but i've found lately that I get strange texture glitches with plastered doors and windows.
Hardened_Mass 3 Jul, 2024 @ 10:20am
@Xaerthus First off, thank you for all your amazing work for ME!

I was wondering if you could make a set of paintable domes like storied past's. Also, it would be great if we had some glass domes (maybe even stained glass?).

Just some ideas. Thanks for your time.

As a result of experiences of many people as well as to encourage being able to use paints in survival, the complicated and expensive crafting recipes have been discarded.
Paints are now free and can be all crafter in the inventory using the basic tools as prerequisites.
vicman79 24 Mar, 2024 @ 11:41pm
So what changed or was fixed in last update just wondering ??
Dragon Fire 813 2 Jul, 2023 @ 6:05pm
That was enough of a clue to for me to figure it out. You convert the margin trowel. Thanks
Johnbeere  [author] 2 Jul, 2023 @ 5:39pm
The scraping tool is converted from one of the other items in your personal crafting inventory - I don't remember exactly what item it's converted from though
Dragon Fire 813 2 Jul, 2023 @ 5:26pm
I can't for the life of me figure out what I need or where to craft the scraping tool. I have all crafting stations built and several items I think I would need to make it.
Johnbeere  [author] 7 Feb, 2023 @ 10:27am
Can you report that bug on the CE bug tracker?
vicman79 7 Feb, 2023 @ 9:55am
Here is a link to the water well I plan to make a new one for this. Note that the catch blocks and rope drum is not really needed and I recommend using chain not rope to hang the water hook. https://youtu.be/MfTrTXr4zOs
vicman79 7 Feb, 2023 @ 9:52am
I have created a guide for this mod not sure if I can attach a link here but it covers making a water well and then another that covers all the basics of paint making for wood metal and stone. https://youtu.be/Krs4srJ8qFg

Found a bug almost hate to say but seems to be a cache overflow error it you do not quickly remove finished base coats from que you end up with literally thousands of either clay jars or paint buckets This type of bug exists in a few other mods that return items (not yours) but few know about them it does not effect the mod function in any way but 3 crates of clay jars is a bit excessive Easy to replicate just craft a full que of any base and do not remove it let it craft all and you will have a bunch of jars or paint buckets
Sir Borks-a-Lot 26 Sep, 2022 @ 10:18am
I was pointed to this mod today and I love it. Not just because of the fact I can colour stuff, but the way it's implemented. Having to add base or plaster first and not just painting the rocks and wood and metal is a nice immersion touch.
Johnbeere  [author] 16 Jun, 2022 @ 6:41pm
Unfortunately, no. It's totally possible to do in survival, but we need to do some work to the recipes to make it more obvious how to craft it.
gabgab01 16 Jun, 2022 @ 6:07pm
i'm a bit lost on how to craft the paint tools and stuff in survival. is there like a guide or something somewhere?
Johnbeere  [author] 16 Jun, 2022 @ 5:18pm
Just a material name being added to make C3ntron's arches paintable with the wood base paint.
vicman79 16 Jun, 2022 @ 4:39pm
Curious What today's update was for had not found any issues with this mod ?
Johnbeere  [author] 7 May, 2022 @ 4:22pm
It's because the fracturing is a feature that Keen bought special tools to make, that no longer works once the model has been modified.
KriegerSayas 7 May, 2022 @ 10:55am
Hi, why doesnt the damage model work? With this essential mod, sieges look like minecraft... It looks very bad. There are only two options at the moment: Make the buildings beautiful with terrible destruction or make buildings terrible (vanilla) with beautiful destruction.
vicman79 5 Sep, 2021 @ 5:01pm
Wanted to add this one
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/694536320172949567/884226029659488326/unknown.png

You will notice that some of the stone like the arches and the pillars do not fully paint and leave a white border this is also true of vanilla straight railings you can see the 2 white strips that do not paint all other railing paint fully. But still very cool mod and I find I can work with the borders
vicman79 5 Sep, 2021 @ 4:35pm
Many thanks once this gets around will inspire a lot of builders that have been a bit board with vanilla ME colors
vicman79 5 Sep, 2021 @ 4:31pm
Yes this baby works !! I now have a full Paint shop on ME World Vikings server. I have tried painting everything I cant think of. I must say the bronzing is the most cool. This is however a bit of a complex mod to understand right off but I am working on a guide that should make it easier. It is a gratifying mod as once you begin produceing paint an useing it you will find it economical you get alot for your resources Once you understand that there is a "base" coat Like a primer and a top coat for each surface type (metal, wood, and stone (Plaster)) it gets easy. Here are a few screen shots from my guide

Xaerthus  [author] 26 Jul, 2021 @ 4:15am
Yes, it's full survival ready. If you're trying to find the wood base recipe, look in ovens, as that's where you'd cook hide/bone glue.
DoodleBugGamingYT 26 Jul, 2021 @ 1:24am
Does this work i cant see where i need to make the paint from in survival no well there
Johnbeere  [author] 29 Jun, 2021 @ 7:53pm
The diagonal timbers mod has been out of date for a long time, since .7 released, since ME now has 1-10 diagonal timbers in vanilla. Removing the mod will get rid of any existing diagonal timbers you've placed, but you will then be able to use the vanilla counterpart, which will be paintable.
While it's better to get rid of anywhere you've used the old mod, you can use this mod to keep the old diagonal timbers while making the vanilla ones usable again:

Crowdawg11 29 Jun, 2021 @ 7:32pm
I'm a complete idiot, and confused the Diagonal TIMBERS mod for the Diagonal BLOCKS mod. It is the latter that I did not have loaded, not the former. So my question now would be, if I remove that from my existing world, will it cause problems?
Xaerthus  [author] 29 Jun, 2021 @ 5:49pm
@Crowdawg11
Which exactly diagonal timber is it and which tool is causing the crash? (does it happen with multiple sizes/tools?)
Also, did you have the diagonal timbers mod installed before and then removed while using the same world, or was it never loaded on it?
Crowdawg11 29 Jun, 2021 @ 5:22pm
So I'm having the same instacrash when pointing at diagonal timbers that Slaneesh was having except I'm not using the diagonal timbers mod, I'm using the vanilla diagonal timbers.
RKtheGreat 29 Jan, 2021 @ 6:59am
I have noticed that trying to use the daubing tool to color the half-timber walls that the color gets a metallic sheen to it and it looks really weird and shiny
DoodleBugGamingYT 23 Jan, 2021 @ 4:20am
It says I need resources water how does this work pls
kcs123 1 Jan, 2021 @ 1:10pm
Thanks.
Xaerthus  [author] 1 Jan, 2021 @ 6:36am
Seems like a bug with material naming of that particular block. Will tell John about it.
kcs123 31 Dec, 2020 @ 4:16am
I think that I found a bug. I'm not sure if issue is on timber wedges mod side or in this mod. But, while original size 5 Timber Arch Board can be painted without problems, size 3 of the same board can't be aimed with paint tools:

Johnbeere  [author] 15 Sep, 2020 @ 4:39am
@Slaanesh Get rid of the diagonal timber mod, it's from .6 and diagonal timbers are now in vanilla. It's probably crashing because it uses old textures.
OpposingHorse 15 Sep, 2020 @ 1:36am
The game insta CTDs when i even point a painting tool at a diagonal timber from the diagonal timber mod. Is there a way around this or is this a bug on my end?
CassioMJR 15 Aug, 2020 @ 7:33pm
Hello

Have a good night

When will the mod be availible in survival?
Xaerthus  [author] 9 May, 2020 @ 4:52am
I'd want to avoid adding unnecessary depencies for the mod to allow for maximum compatibility. But we could make an addon that would overwrite some recipies either with the lime from Shad's mod or stuff from Onca's More Minerals. But we'll see after the survival compatibility is actually done (which we are working on currently).
Ibbo2000 8 May, 2020 @ 8:35am
I know this might sound a bit like a stupid question but, when crafting is implemented for survival will you consider joining the mod up with the Lime Processing mod by Shad? This mod did originally have support for using its qicklime paste to create paint for the clay walls, this was only possible by another painting mod which is now discontinued and abandoned. It would be really nice to see these two mods work together using this same method again. Thanks
tacot44 24 Apr, 2020 @ 2:48am
ok thanks for the quick reply.
And continue in this excellent mods.:steamhappy:
Johnbeere  [author] 24 Apr, 2020 @ 2:25am
@tacot44 Unfortunately, this mod is not survival compatible yet. We hope to implement crafting recipes for all the brushes soon though.
tacot44 24 Apr, 2020 @ 1:32am
Hello
I use your mod which I find very useful and which allows you to really personalize the achievements. But in survival mode, I have unlocked all the requests, but I can't find out where to build the brushes.
Could you tell me how to do it.
thank you in advance
Well done for this mod
Wardaddy 14 Apr, 2020 @ 1:10am
Is it possible to only plaster or paint one side of a block? I wanted to whitewash the inside of my castle and keep my outside uneffected.
Xaerthus  [author] 15 Mar, 2020 @ 10:27am
@Jan Žák The mod uses a custom texture swapping script from Equinox Core and i believe that's where the problem occurs (i think it may have something to do with necessary path abbreviation). For details you might want to ask Equinox though, as he has done all the scripting for this.
Jan Žák 15 Mar, 2020 @ 6:40am
@Xaerthus thank you for that information. I will give it a try :) But it is strange, becouse I never had any problems with any mods up to now. My username is still the same :)
Xaerthus  [author] 15 Mar, 2020 @ 5:50am
@Jan Žák Yes, that is the reason. We had that issue before with a username in cyrillic. Unfortunately it is unfixable for now. But as far as i know you can change the default path where ME stores things to another place, avoiding Users\[Username]\...
Jan Žák 15 Mar, 2020 @ 2:06am
When I want to paint a block, the whole game crash down. I can see the icons, when I use the base coat and press a mouse button, I can hear a sound and then the game crash to a desktop. I the log file I can see this:

Exception occurred: VRageRender.MessageProcessingException: Error while processing render message WallStoneWithEntranceC
System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path.

I think, there is a problem with my Czech chartacters in my name?
grunkibis 9 Mar, 2020 @ 1:02pm
uhm... ah, read? what type of madness is this? thank you and with full shame
Xaerthus  [author] 9 Mar, 2020 @ 10:42am
@grunkibis
Yes, you can get every color you want, either by editing blueprints or creating your own tool. Read the bottom part of the description ;)
