Genesis conflicts with this mod, yes. I've made the mod as compatible with other mods as I can without literally making a patch for Genesis. Since this mod is no longer being supported and I am busy with real life, this is not something I can do. I believe others have made their own patches and linked to them in the comment pages here however.

Either way I hope you continue to enjoy the game in whichever way you choose to mod it, and will see you in Kenshi 2 :)

"Why do books only take fabric, instead of ink and paper, to make?" maybe im crazy but its showing leather and parchment for me lol description wildly differs from my experience, couldnt get it to work.

Basically just changes you from chasing books across the world to chasing parchment which is harder to find. Only other mod I use is the genesis one so maybe its conflicting idk but this mods definitely not good enough to remove genesis lol

Sorry, there is no cheat version of this mod, and I have stopped modding for Kenshi for the foreseeable future. You could probably pop my mod in to the forgotten construction set and mess around with the settings on the benches and items I touched to make them instantly craftable. The modding system for Kenshi 1 is deceptively simple once you start playing around in it.

Perhaps when Kenshi 2 comes out, when making mods of this nature, I will put out a cheat version as well :)
Happy 4 Aug, 2024 @ 4:30am
Does this mod has "cheat" version? I just wanna be able to craft everything. I really hate exploring

@hammer Ive been using this mod for nearly half a decade now, Ill be looking forward to RIY++ when Kenshi 2 drops
DankBudd 23 Feb, 2024 @ 8:45am
i believe it was this mod, which i didnt even know i had installed.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2982857108

and genmod (general modifications), which changes the book recipe, but is still compatible with your mod. so its working now.
DankBudd 23 Feb, 2024 @ 5:38am
thanks for reply. guess ill try to figure out which mod it is.
and yeah, fingers crossed for better modding in kenshi 2. iirc they said modding was an afterthought in kenshi, but they were planning for it from the start for kenshi 2.
Hammer  [author] 22 Feb, 2024 @ 4:24pm
@DankBudd - That is definitely not my mod. Another mod is overriding what my mod is doing. A patch would need to be made for the conflicting mod and my mod to work properly together, or one of them will need to go.

I'm not actively developing this mod anymore and haven't been for a while, it's pretty much done what it set out to do and I made it as non-conflicting as I reasonably could. IIRC it doesn't even change existing entries, just creates its own furniture, researches, and the furniture is given the functionality and parameters necessary to craft the research items. Beyond making compatibility patches for every conflicting mod, I don't see a reasonable way to make it any less conflicting than it already is.

It's my hope that with Kenshi 2, that modding might be a bit more powerful and easier to avoid mod conflicts... because I definitely intend to get in to modding again when that game comes out.
DankBudd 22 Feb, 2024 @ 4:11pm
I dont understand how to craft the books.
The book entry in crafting menu says the recipe is: Research Conclusions x1, Empty Book x1, Half-Eaten Book x2, Parchment x5.
Some of my other mods may be altering that recipe idk.
And then the research bench from your mod says it requires Research Conclusions and Empty Book, but i have never seen either of those items nor a way to craft them.

i have the half eaten books and parchment, which i assume are actually for a different mods recipe, and cant use those for anything either.
GramLeen 8 Dec, 2023 @ 6:10pm
@Fizban Please, tell me, how do you craft them in Genesis? I just can't figure it out, even though I researched into tier six already.
Fizban 31 Oct, 2023 @ 7:41am
errr turns out I found out why, this mod is unnecessary for Genesis which contains its own system for crafting the tech items. Its just not clearly available till after Tech 3 has been researched. Still Kinda prefer your mod since it has earlier access.
Fizban 31 Oct, 2023 @ 7:00am
FYI for anyone wondering if this mod is compatible with the Genesis Overhaul. Yeas and no. For some reason Genesis overrides the recipe for books to require parchment instead of fabric and also need leather, yet you cant craft parchment in Genesis. Doesn't matter your mod load order the recipe gets overwritten no matter what. I found a quick fix was to just download a mod called "Parchment Production" which merely added an alternate loom type that makes parchment paper out of cotton or hemp like fabrics. It takes a little extra initial book investment but whatever, it works.

Haven't gotten to the point in my Genesis play-through where I need to try to print out some engineering or ancient science to verify if their recipes are also broken in the overhaul but seeing as the mod normally just requires the lower tier tech item to enhance it to the next tier I think it will be fine.

tip:
This mod has bug with more building. The material will become paper
Hope that helps:praisesun:
ChaiFox 1 Mar, 2023 @ 10:16am
@mike If I understand you correctly its an addon.
Its a separate mod file that fixes the conflict with the book crafting recipe between RIY+ and GenMod
mike 24 Feb, 2023 @ 11:52am
@chaiFox is that genmod book crafting addon or just genmod itself

This makes live as a city dweller so much easier.
Or to be more correct: It makes it possible.
Thank you man! Or woman. Or whatever. :-) Thanks!

Behaviour at is finest! I love the way you stand your ground with "When you craft clothing with a clothing bench, you don't need thread or stitching for making the clothes, or a sewing needle.".
Still, I have to say that your statement of "I was going to put it [AI Cores] in initially, but then I started thinking about it... that wouldn't make sense" doesn't make sense. The complexity behind limb tech already has AI cores behind it. If you have the knowledge to work with something (AI Core) you can certainly know how to create it. Otherwise it would definitely make no sense at all.
How a caveman could develop cuisine without knowing how to start a fire? How would we know to write without knowing to write the alphabet? I just want to say that Limb tech is much more complex than AI core creation.
Btw, I love your mod. :beeped::dustwich:

so i know its old but i just started playing again after a while saw the old one updated to this and i was wondering how i get written paper i don't know my game might be bugged but i did remove the old version and in your FAQ it says it only need fabric to make books but for me its taking written paper and leather.

I feel the pacing is off, the wait isn't my real the issue, it's the number of product made when things are made and things not being able to run constantly and smoothly, if slowly, with only one of each bench yet given I'm not sure you can make more than one item per craft I ask the following: Would you please change this one or release an addon mod this that would work with this one and decrease the amount of time the two lower tiers of book take to craft so that players can have just one of each bench and the books craft fast enough to meet the demands of their next tier bench without the process ever stopping, just a constant smooth flow of work.

Regardless, I do thank you for your time and this mod at all. It's worked wonderfully and, despite my issue with it, it's been a nice addition.
ChaiFox 22 Apr, 2021 @ 12:51pm
I threw together a quick mod to make this work with the GenMod book crafting (just changed the recipe to override ingredients in) will take it down if this mod implements it

I've got GenMod as well and thought I was missing something for this since the bench is asking for parchment/old books and not fabric
LucasM 29 Oct, 2020 @ 6:06pm
I made a mod which is based off this one and allows for AI Core crafting:

I also made a balanced recipes for this mod to make crafting more balanced:

Pretty sure the problem is the GenMod General Modifications, I loaded this with Genesis as well as my usual suite of extra limbs and armor etc.. Once I loaded General Modifications up with this one, no matter where I moved this mod up or down on the list I got the same error of paper/old book requirement. Again it didn't matter where above or below Gen Mod, it appears it overwrites the fabric need for this mod.
Hammer  [author] 24 Jul, 2020 @ 6:13pm
@Breed the Love That definitely isn't my mod, my mod doesn't make any use of ruined books. I'd recommend what @Grzegorz said, it sounds like another mod is changing something about my bench, if not overwriting it somehow.

@Rabbit This mod, nor my previous mod, has ever required damaged books or parchment. You use fabrics, if the bench is asking for parchment or anything that isn't fabrics, it's either not the right bench, a bench from another mod, or a mod in your load order is conflicting with my mod. :)
Queen Bee 23 Jul, 2020 @ 9:50pm
@Breed the Love Try loading the mod after general modifications/genmod if you're using it
SaltyJack69 22 Jul, 2020 @ 12:08pm
Mod still requires paper. You said it should require fabrics but the game simply wont allow me to use fabrics. I've tried multiple solutions, such as importing, turning mods off and even breaking down and rebuilding the research bench. But to create a book ALWAYS requires paper x5 and chewed up books. Any comments on this? As I am just going to ixnay this mod completely, although it's a great idea in concept.:steamsad:
Rabbit 22 Jul, 2020 @ 9:28am
Does this still need the damaged books to make any or is it just the parchment that is needed to make them? I am still force to have the two instead of the one
W1ng3d_W4rrior 11 Jun, 2020 @ 12:06am
i plan on trying this on my next playthrough. my first playthrough i hit a HUGE roadblock outpost building because i couldnt find nearly enough ancient science books and couldn't make a ton of expeditions (especially with most of them being unsuccessful) i eventually caved and looked up where i could but them and was pretty disappointed with how unavailable they were. also i was REALLY disappointed i couldn't have my own scientist do engineering research.
Parabellum168 19 May, 2020 @ 7:16am
thank you :D
Hammer  [author] 17 May, 2020 @ 3:09pm
Regular books only take fabric, there is no paper item or requirement. Paper was from the old version of this mod, please make sure that you remove the old RIY mod and use only this one!
debi 17 May, 2020 @ 2:22pm
How do you make books? it says i need paper
Melar Baram 25 Apr, 2020 @ 5:10pm
Perhaps the breakdown can be done via dialogue, for instance an NPC in the Great Library willing to give you x number of ASBs for an AI core. Building up takes time and effort, but breaking down is just a simple trade.
Hammer  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 9:28pm
A big thing with such a change is... there's no way (that I know of) to make the production time faster for ASBs, whether you're making them with books + leather, or breaking down an AI Core. The time can only be changed in one place, so it'd take the same amount of time either way, but use a more rare item. I'd have to balance it by making the AI Core give a significant amount of books compared to what you could get from crafting them with the Archaeology station, not sure if people would find it worth doing... but if there's enough demand, I'll add it! :)
Hammer  [author] 22 Apr, 2020 @ 9:11pm
Thank you for the feedback. Luke! I've been using it in my personal outpost playthrough, I added it in-between playing and so far it's worked great on my save, so an import shouldn't be required! I like the idea of taking AI cores and converting them in to Ancient Science Books, especially since some researches like the last Battery Power researches cost tons of ASBs... I might look in to trying to implement that if there's enough interest!
Cheshire 22 Apr, 2020 @ 8:03pm
I like this. As much as I feel like, to some extent, you're not meant to be able to research everything the sheer irritation of having research unfulfilled tended to just make me import. Plus, mods add techs but rarely add more ancient books to make up for them.

To be honest it's only the ancient science books I need. You can farm cleanser units in the Ashlands for AI cores - they're not even that hard.

My one recommendation really is that maybe you could turn AI cores into a handful of ancient science books or engineering research.

Will this work in an existing save, by the way?
Hammer  [author] 17 Apr, 2020 @ 3:55am
Thank you for giving my new mod a shot, Metar Baram! I understand there are quite a few people that liked being able to craft AI Cores in the old mod, but I wanted to leave at least one neat artifact out there to be hunted and found in the world of Kenshi, otherwise people wouldn't get to know the joys of Beak Things, iron spiders, among many other dangers!

If it's any consolation, by the time you hit a wall because of AI Cores, you'll already be more advanced than most of the major factions in terms of research, and should be able to outfit a squad of tech hunters quite well! :)
Melar Baram 16 Apr, 2020 @ 8:53am
Super awesome, Hammer. Been loving the OG mod, looking forward to trying this out today. I both hate/agree with the AI Cores change. I won't want to be without it, but it will force me out of my turtle shell.
