I am assuming this one doesn't work with 6T eras on?

This changes it to the Renaissance era. If you open the mod, it'll say <Replace Name="WORLD_CONGRESS_INITIAL_ERA" Value="4" /> which should be 5 instead for industrial.

@DaniAngione did you have 6T eras on?

I'm 100% sure this mod was working until a few weeks ago (Source: dozens of games played) and today I started a game and congress started on the Renaissance.

Now, what draws my attention is that the Renaissance is also not the correct start era in the base game, which definitely means it was some other mod change... Now I just need to figure out which one...

Thank you, last thing I need is to get the ire of ye olde world congress and have the Koreans on the other side of the world trying to liberate a small French city I conquered as Germany. The level of immersion breaking anachronism is head-spinning. Now I just need a mod where I don't get mass denounced by the international hugbox because I conquered a neighbour in the ancient era; and by Alexander the Great no less! WHAT WAS ALEXANDER GREAT AT FIRAXIS ANSWER ME??!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Bunch of programmers and game designers don't know this basic piece of history. World Congress in the ancient era......I'm mean.....HOW????? Stupid. Thanks for the fix.

It could be argued that historically the first time major European powers (and World powers of the time) considered themselves as proper nations and convened as such would be when the Peace of Westphalia [en.wikipedia.org] was signed (1643-1649), ending the Thirty Years War.

While it never was a proper plenary session as Wikipedia mentions, it certainly comes very close to what happens in game during "emergencies", or when "world congress" agreements are voted upon and subsequently enforced.

In any case, I welcome anything and everything that adds more historical flavour to our Civilization games, so thank you for creating and sharing the mod with us.

@DaniAngione -- I'm not sure that would be possible....I would love that as well. @UncivilizedGuy -- agree, this is a simple and perfect mod. I actually modified mine to start in Modern vs. Industrial. My rationale is that it was the late industrial era before the world saw many things (agree with Congress of Vienna, but that was limited to Europe) -- I'm thinking Nobel prize, olympics, fighting to protect smaller nations, etc. I haven't tested enough to know if it creates imbalance -- but it does make each vote more important and competition more critical.

Amazing, this is what I was looking for!

I would like to just make a suggestion, although I know nothing of Civ modding so I don't know if possible... But I'd suggest to also add a condition for it to only happen if all civs know each other already -- I know this is pretty much always the case when the game reaches the Industrial era, but it really bothers me that a congress meets and yet there's people that you don't know there...

(and even worse, you remain not knowing them even though there was a congress where they participated. Couldn't your diplomat like, I dunno, ask them who they are? :P )
magicaces 15 Jul, 2020 @ 2:38am
How does this affect the diplo victory? Does it make it much less likely?
TywinLannister64 4 Jul, 2020 @ 3:40pm
THANKS!
can't believe this wasn't in the main game !
Tuindwergie 30 Jun, 2020 @ 8:53am
@UncivilizedGuy How does this influence the diplomatic victory?
Quineloe 29 May, 2020 @ 1:38am
Welcome to the world congress. You have met 3 out of 8 civilizations, and no one has met more than five.
Jaymes_Zach 14 May, 2020 @ 9:02am
