Automatic Persistence

Man this is a throwback. Didn't think anyone was going to still be touching this. I haven't played or even had gmod installed in ages. This mod was basically just a really simple .lua script running at map load that would go through every map object in a for loop and if they were of a certain type, enable persistence.

Sorry to disappoint. You'd probably be better off asking a tech-savvy bud to try the same thing, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out I'd imagine.

FYI This hasn't worked since I wrote that comment. I did actually download it. You can make things as persistent but it won't do anything. It used to work when it was released, it was very useful for building stuff. Now I just weld everything to world and then sigh as physics engine spaghettifies stuff I accidentally drag.

please make it work

this sounds good tho reading other comments has me not download.

Uhh, gesundheit? This mod is supposed to make sure that all the props that load into a fresh map have the "persist" option enabled on them, which has the effect of not being able to grab it with your physgun until you manually disable it via the c menu. It won't do anything to the props that players spawn themselves. Maybe an update did something to it, I haven't had the time to test it again.

Oh wait, I misunderstood the use of it. I was hoping it was the c menu option that let you not be able to grab an object with the physgun and you could unselect it at any time. This colourable ropes update is awful, and need I mention the removal of width 0 ropes?

No problem! Let me know if anything weird happens or something needs to change.

Thanks for reuploading this

Did you right-click it? Can you link a screenshot?
The idea is mostly that you can't move things like doors when you load a new map, is that still working?

It doesn't seem to work, I press the C-button as I hover my cursor over an object, just to find the Persistence Option isn't there.

Sorry about the lack of activity, I got caught up in some things and haven't really looked back at this. Don't consider this add-on abandoned though, I just took a break from it. If you guys have anything that you'd like to see added just tell me about it and I'll look if I can work it in the mod.
Taulo  [author] 23 Apr, 2020 @ 5:58am
I'll take a look at it, thank you!

I also got the entity tool that I was talking about earlier: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=500527779
Be sure to read the description, you need to use a console commands to enable it

theres also prop_physics_multiplayer and prop_physics_respawnable, aswell as all the items and weapons that spawn in half-life 2 deathmatch maps
Taulo  [author] 23 Apr, 2020 @ 5:54am
Updated! Sorry it took so long, but the add-on now filters both func_physbox and prop_physics (like the cans that load in half-life 2 maps), let me know if it still works fine
Taulo  [author] 20 Apr, 2020 @ 11:49am
I'll update the add-on when I have the time, for now you'll have to manually de-persist anything that should not be persistent. If you can think of any other types that shouldn't be persistent, let me know too! There was an entity checker add-on on the workshop but I don't have a link to it right now, it might be useful for picking out the entity types
NextKurome76TheSoldier 20 Apr, 2020 @ 7:49am
but u might need to exclude it from persisting func_physbox or anything affected by gravity, its hard to move the doors in gm_fork with all of the doors persistent when intended to open with physgun

Nice! was looking for a tool like that like a month ago, thanks bruv

Me too, I've tested if it conflicted with persistence mode on sandbox but surprisingly enough it worked perfectly. Still, if it's not doing something right, let me know

I'm looking forward to using this!
The_Gaming_Loyalist 15 Apr, 2020 @ 2:07pm
Same here.
