Definitely a compatibility issue. Please read the "Compatibility & Recommendations" section.

Maybe compatibilty, but it crashes the game, sorry.

I just realized one of my own example screenshots also feature a Mickey Mouse lake.

I have brought great shame to my name.

Cool, that's exactly what I was trying to achieve :)

@Vanilla Latte
That's exactly what I was trying to avoid, but I'm glad you're having fun x)

(Lakes are generated as random circles, so in vanilla, usually all you get is Swiss cheese. A 'snowman' lake if you're lucky, or Mickey Mouse if you're really lucky.)

I found a mickey mouse lake. :)

nice

Wouldn't there be nice to have a mod that adds more than just 2 generation options?

@Nemo
Thanks for making a version with less lakes, I will try it!

What I meant with "massive lakes" are lakes that cover very close to my whole screen when I am zoomed out to the max - you see maybe 10% land, the rest is lake.

@DrNiggle

Glad you like it, but also check out the More Terrain mod if you haven't -- some of its map types are mostly water so it might be a better fit if you intend to build most of your town on the water.

After seriously starting to plan a city with the Jetty and Bridge mod, the ability to spawn enormous lakes is exactly what I need. Great mod, thank you.

A version with fewer lakes & rivers is now available:

Short reply: I think you were just unlucky with your map seeds. Try again, or wait for an alternate version of the mod with fewer lakes.

Long reply: By "massive lakes" do you mean the kind of "super lake" that's in the 4th screenshot above? If so, that's the result of 2 actual "lakes" spawning next to each other.

With this mod, Large maps will have 2 to 4 lakes (Small: 0-2; Medium: 1-3). The way I tweaked the numbers, they are more likely to "merge" together than in vanilla, just like flat (buildable) areas do. This is intended.
Nemo Jr.  [author] 31 May, 2020 @ 9:40am
That said, their spawning near the starting location (i.e. the middle of the map) is not by design; that's just randomness.

As for their reason (or "value"), it's the same as mountains: To beautify the scenery and to serve as an obstacle you need to build around. Unlike mountains, they can make great fishing spots or interesting "coastlines" for trade.

Of course, instead of typing that wall of text, I could have just made an alternate version with fewer lakes. *facepalm*

I'll go do that now.

I startet 3 maps after each other - every time there are massive lakes very near to my starting point - is it possible to change that?
I see no value in big lakes except it takes room to build away.
