yeah i worked through it as libdem did it seems

Interesting map! My thought process were as follows: I first figured out the ending sequence had to be utilizing either a ghost cube(which got ruled out fairly quickly) or the piston for a time delay , then pieced out nearly every intermediate step except for lifting up the cube across the fence , which i guess was the blind spot for me! faved:steamthumbsup:

I have no idea why Steam decided to only now notify me of this comment, but thanks for playing! Sadly I lost my file for this map so I can't put out any further updates but thank you for the suggestion regardless :)

This one threw me in for a loop! Literally! I was near the end but kept repeating steps. I was trying to get back in the fizzler room. Turns out you don't! Speaking of the end, fantastic final move! Very natural timing and surprising use of the piston. Massive fan of the looping as well in this one, the fact that each time you loop its for a different yet subtle reason is quite impressive. Also like how each voxel on the 3 wide portal surface was actually used! Not very common but very welcome.

One more thing! I don't know if you would be interested, but current beemod has a feature that adjusts the piston's speed. I bring this up as potentially it could make the final move a little easier. I missed the falling cube a couple times. Not needed, and I understand this map is 4 years old now, but could help!

Sorry for the massive wall of text, but this was quite a fascinating map! Definite fav!

Thanks for playing bullfrog, everything was intended even if your solution included one overcomplication, though it doesn't really matter. Cool to see that you came back to give it another try.

I also tried this map a while ago, but failed to complete it and eventually, removed it from my queue. I came back to it because @Khan added it to their favourites a few days ago. I’m ashamed to say that I did read one particular spoiler and the penny dropped. I watched a walkthrough and I think it’s pretty much the same as I did, but just to check:: intended solution ? Anyway, excellent puzzle  added favourites and also now following.

Ahh I see,very nice work,big thumbs up!

To my surprise, the retractable platform and button in the entrance area seem to work only at the beginning, most of the steps are done on the opposite side, everything serves the cube, meanwhile, the entrance stuffs are more like setting up for rescue. I can understand the unforgiving moments that may trap you get further, but it also forces you to think more deeply!Really goood!:p2cube:
SpKi  [author] 7 Jun, 2023 @ 4:35pm
Haru, that is all intended. If you line yourself up with the catapult beforehand, the timing will be really lenient.
Thanks for coming back to give it another shot.
可砸 6 Jun, 2023 @ 9:51pm
I came back after three years and finally figured out a solution(?):DSTghost:

I also remember it seemed to work out before you updated, but after you updated I failed, so I came back today and it seemed to be smoother this time, but I'm still not sure if I skipped some steps, I like your setup that you have to respawn the cube in different positions, which was really cool!

But I didn't know if the last step needed some timed-move ? I didn't make it every time so it confused me a bit and I didn't see any mention of timing in the description. So I doubt it is intended?

Looks like I never left a comment on this one after playing the first time. I enjoyed it a lot. It is interesting to me that Observatories, which I played first, took me ages to complete, but this one took me much less time - a testament to the similarities between the maps, maybe. I'm not sure how I felt on my original run, but I actually appreciated that the cube did not need to enter the fizzler-gated room at the end; it forced me to reconsider the necessary conditions and conclude how exactly I would need to move the cube to its penultimate position.
DiDo Killer! 15 Feb, 2023 @ 5:39pm
Had to watch the solution for the last move, couldn't spot that on my own. As nerdlingnation I was blinded by 2 things: looking to get the cube to the button inside the fizzler area, and a potential ghost cube move. The second one I blame it on myself, as I think the intended move is much more beautiful and rare to see. But I would have loved to see that final squeeze by getting the cube inside the laser area, I was going crazy until I realized that was impossible and that I was missing something . Thumbs up :]

Cool puzzle. I remember trying to figure this out a few months ago and then gave up after a while. I came back today and found what I was missing. I guess I thought for sure a ghost cube move would be involved at the exit, which blinded me a bit. I got a bit confused by how the player only really has to deal with the portal surface and the floor button behind the fizzler once. Once I ruled out re-using those things, however, I found the way to get the extra delay.
Master.AKA 7 Jan, 2022 @ 8:00am
Very nice puzzle. Took me a few hours. The one thing that I was unhappy about was not the final move itself but its execution. You ha to be very fast in order to get the cube from above the platform. Maybe adding 1 or 2 seconds delay for the cube dropper to respond makes it better (If you don't want to make it too obvious, maybe you can increase the height of the piston or making it's lifting a little bit slower. By the way, I realized my map "4. Face" also makes use of piston timing that was involved in this map. Feel free to check it out :) During solving this I came up with an idea that was interesting but was not useful for solving the puzzle. So, maybe I implement it in my next map! :) Nice job on creating this map an yeah, definitely made it to my favorites! :)

@Gabriel Bacon: Thanks for the feedback and the blind playthrough! I'll watch it soon. The move you were "iffy" about that you mentioned is not required and really just an overcomplication since you can just preplace two portals in the ending area, then preplace the cube and shoot the laser from the elevator . I haven't really bothered fixing it since it's a minor thing :p Anyway, grats' on solving the entire shebang, I'm glad you liked it :^)
Gabriel Bacon 21 Mar, 2021 @ 6:08pm
That was so good! Jeez I spent an hour over 2 sessions trying to figure it out. I was able to deduce relatively quickly the elevator trick needed to solve it, but getting there was a puzzle in itself! This nagged me for 2 days straight after trying the first time, I literally laid in bed at night trying to play out what was possible & what I had missed. The only move I was "iffy" about was the cube drop into the laser & run onto the elevator move , although there might be an easier way that I missed. I doubt I'll forget the main "move", but I'm putting it on my favorites regardless cause I know I'll forget the rest over time. Thanks for making.

My (long) blind playthrough
SpielSatzFail 22 Dec, 2020 @ 6:42pm
P.S. It would have been fair if a similar blocking mechanic would have been introduced somewhere else in the chamber, like in a small tutorial area before, so the player can learn and apply this knowledge later on. Just an idea for future maps.
And thanks for your understanding :-)
SpielSatzFail 22 Dec, 2020 @ 6:42pm
After my emotions have settled down I want to make things clear: firstly, of course I didn't downvote it. Secondly, I was misled by something a design overhaul could fix. I was standing at the exit area right before the cube dropper and I thought I'd have to reshoot a portal from there to kill the cube. The only surface that could help me was the one on the horizontal piston platform, so I was 100% sure I needed the cube on the button again which is just impossible in that situation. Plus, if the cube was on the button, how could it redirect a laser coming from the piston surface...?!
I felt kind of betrayed by the intended solution. If you ever update the map maybe you could think about adding a glass or something so that players know for sure that they are not supposed to shoot any portal from up there. In this case I'd gladly give it a thumbs up :-)
SpKi  [author] 22 Dec, 2020 @ 3:29pm
Sorry about that. I feel like the last move in this one is quite subjective, where some don't have a problem with it and others find it a bit too obscure. While I think the logic is quite clear at that point, I can see where you're coming from. Still, thanks for playing.
SpielSatzFail 21 Dec, 2020 @ 3:38pm
This whole chamber took me ages. Eventually I needed to read comments and look into gameplay videos to understand what the final move could be. I NEVER would have come up with this idea. I feel a little stupid but not explicitly dumb cause tbh I don't like that solution. You can say it's a creative way to build in a kind of a timer/delay . But it's so tricky, uncommon and hidden that it ruined the map for me :-( There are many others who like it, which is fine :-) but for me it's just an exaggeration. I finished the map with great disappointment instead of excitement... (no offense, just my two cents caused by the emotions I feel right now)

lol, i finally finished! this is a die hard portal fan for you i decided to take my son to the neighborhood middle school to skate around the basketball court. something to do during this crazy time. while skating around and around i was also going around and around in my mind what i had not done in this map. i finally realized it was ok to let the cube respawn when having the portal on both sides. thats was what i needed to get everything where it needed to be.. excellent map!! faved!
SpKi  [author] 10 Jun, 2020 @ 12:25am
Yes, that is correct.
jandlml 9 Jun, 2020 @ 10:50pm
ok, this is where i am. is this the correct move? i can jump down and grab the cube from behind the grate. just making sure because i did it but can find no where to go afterward https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2125665201
SpKi  [author] 9 Jun, 2020 @ 12:51am
Well, I will say this: The idea you have is a good one. Based off of your last comment, I will say that it is necessary to bring the cube to the catapult area. The grating is important, there's a reason it's not glass.
jandlml 8 Jun, 2020 @ 8:52pm
i guess im going to need that hint. i see one thing that may work but i cant get it set up. using the piston to block the beam while flinging up as it goes down it will hit the cube directed at its respawn activator. its the only move that i can see that might work but i just cant find anyway to get it set up so i can do it
SpKi  [author] 8 Jun, 2020 @ 2:25am
Thankfully bhopping is not intended or required ;] There are indeed some moves here that are not easy to see. I can give you a hint of you want.
jandlml 7 Jun, 2020 @ 9:41pm
made it to the upper floor now im totally stuck. know what to do but not how to get it done. i feel real stupid compared to you guys. never was able to bhop

@Spacekitty I strongly disagree. "Cube jumping" is much more beautiful than the cube toss.

I mean that's cool and all, but I'm afraid my solution is even worse ;]

Maybe I'll make a compliation about how this map can be exploited with ninja moves, sounds like it would be a funny video.
But also, that's rude :[
hub 4 Jun, 2020 @ 4:03am
Ha-ha ..by the rules? Never! Here is another exploit: https://youtu.be/fVJ4jE1EVIk
SpKi  [author] 4 Jun, 2020 @ 2:04am
Lol, looks like I forgot to add something in the description. I don't really see much of a point trying to fix that first "exploit", the core idea is still very much the same and it doesn't mess up any other parts of the solution. Also, there's another, even easier way of doing that move that isn't the fully intended, but if anything, it just makes this one move more difficult to perform. It's not really a particularly clever step either :p
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it. :]
Narkodes 3 Jun, 2020 @ 8:35pm
You asked for exploits?
Here: https://youtu.be/u8_LFNJcMjU

I did not check the other videos, but the switching piston and the cube toss are exploits, I guess. I found a clean solution of course.
Ironically, the switching piston platform was the first solution, that I found and it worked on first try without further adjustments (in the video above, it takes me a few tries to place the cube).

Great map!
SpKi  [author] 30 May, 2020 @ 7:22am
Woah, no exploits this time? I must be dreaming. Well in that case, thanks for playing - happy you liked it :]
