No one have said this so I might as well will
The darker lighting compared to the original/enhanced edition System Shock actually adds more to the atmosphere better than System Shock 2 did (xD)
To say that this is a very good job can be an understatement

yes.

this just gave me an idea: gmShock. like gmDoom, but for system shock.

Nice to see some SS1 levels, it is a shame that not all levels got ported though.

Hopefully someone else does it sometime, I could take a crack at it if I knew what to do

I know this is quite old - but could you please combine all of your Systemshock maps for a cyberpunk roleplay server I am planning on developing? - If not, that's fine, but your recreations are quite amazing and although they probably wouldn't work with seriousRP - It's still worth a shot, and considering they're very low-poly and not very big, it wouldn't be too hard on the PC to run the maps combined into one. A simple transition - maybe even a teleport would suffice. I would do this myself - but I don't have the maps' files nor the know-how to do so.

Beautiful.

If you find some free time and desire to build objects for the maps, I'd love to add them into the levels and give you credit. I bet other people would also love to see more stuff added to the levels! If you make stuff out of brushes, it ought to be real easy for me to just slip them into the build, but if you end up doing proper models, please give me a little time to learn how to add them using my editor, since I don't use hammer / world edit.

I see. I could help you with the computer nodes but they wouldn't be 1:1 but rather close as I don't really think there's a way to get the models from SS1 to Source. I can make models of those and send them over to you. Feel free to credit then I guess.

All the models were made by brushes in the editor. My original goal was to make an MDL, but I've not been able to get enough free time to learn how, so I've been doing it the hard way. Everything you see was done by hand, I wasn't really able to use any automation tools to do anything, short of convert the original textures from System Shock into TGA for Steam import. As a result, some objects are still lacking, like the computer nodes, that require a little more skill than I currently have, if I want to make it look okay.

By the way, when will you add the computer nodes?

Also, did you somehow import the geometry from the original game? What about the models? Did you recreate them by hand or do some magic to get them from the original game?

Holy shit dude, I thought this was impossible without remaking it all by hand. This is lovely. How did you recreate the models? Were they made from brushes?

I LOVE YOU

Thank you!!!

Also if you could do it adding an exterior would be awesome, it could simply be a different part of the map, perhaps you could do some 3d skybox trickery like I have seen on some star wars maps.
JC Bent'em 25 Aug, 2020 @ 6:55pm
I know a technique that some map creators use to get past limits is to make 'fake' brush geometry with props, though I can imagine it would mess with lighting. You could also use lump files or even a custom made lua script to add entities to a brush only map.

I want to say that the answer is yes. I am quite sure that Source can handle all the geometry in one level, but the way I have to work around making 2D stuff functional in 3D means I may run into limitations down the line that will have to be addressed. Hopefully, when that happens, I will have found a better solution for the more creative issues I've been dealing with.

Considering the relatively simple geometry in system shock, I wonder if it would be possible to recreate the entire station in a single map.
Star 7 Jul, 2020 @ 10:07am
okay, cool.
Master Anyon  [author] 6 Jul, 2020 @ 10:03pm
I don't have any experience making mods, so as it stands, the answer is no. Once I am done building all the levels and adding as much as I can to them, then I may see about making a weapons mod.
Star 6 Jul, 2020 @ 9:41pm
can you make a weapon pack?
Geisteskrankenchan 20 Jun, 2020 @ 11:44am
Funny thing is that I've attempted to recreate the medical bay myself once based on that model, I'm a big fan of System Shock and seeing its levels in Gmod was my lifelong dream

Have you by chance addressed any of the issues in the discussion I posted? I'm really curious about the cameras for example

That could actually be very helpful. I've been using a ton of different tools in part of making this addon, TSSHP has been helpful with geometry, screen, and button positioning, and I have DOSBox for dealing with lighting and sound placements. I've got a bunch of objects and world stuff still stashed away in my sandbox and I am working to add more stuff to the levels as time progresses. This last update, for example, fixes some issues with the doors that I wasn't aware of in my initial build, has some better lighting (though I will eventually overhaul the whole system now that I've got more tricks to work with), and other stuff. I have the geometry done for the next three levels as well, but they haven't gotten past just that, and I probably won't start on them until most of the rest of Medical level is done.

If you need it, I have the whole Citadel as a big model [i.imgur.com], maybe you could use it for references

Nice job, bro.
