@ThatOneSaltyFilipino, I probably won't be buying Civ games anymore. They appear to be DLC-whoring and I'm tired of shelling out money for games over and over that are just revamps especially.
ThatOneSaltyFilipino 14 Aug, 2024 @ 6:48am
The fact that this song immensely still fits in Civ 6 is a testament to how timeless Baba Yetu is as a song in the Civ Franchise. I hope there will be a similar mod in Civ 7 as well!

@nnyonnyo77, You are most welcome. :) Glad yours is working.
nnyonnyo77 3 Dec, 2023 @ 5:45am
I found out that I was using the wrong Wwise version. dang it I didn't know I had to use 2015.1.9 lol. Thanks alot
Odin Vex  [author] 2 Dec, 2023 @ 4:40pm
@nnyonnyo77, It should work if your scripts and mod load order are correct. Double-check your file paths and make sure it can access your wem...I'm thinking your mod file is probably wrong.
nnyonnyo77 1 Dec, 2023 @ 8:22pm
Thanks! That was what I was curious about. I was somehow guessing that these two could be different. I just checked my .wem, babayetu, and two other audio sources from civ6 through Hex Editor now, found out that 0x10 to 0x17 has the same hex column and text column. Does this mean they have the same bytes? If so or not, I don't know what to do next.
Odin Vex  [author] 1 Dec, 2023 @ 5:18pm
@nnyonnyo77, I'm glad you like it. As for why your own modifications might not be working it could be another of things. Are you essentially using this mod but replacing the wem files? If so it should work if you get the correct bitrate, codec, and frequency...but the two wem files are *not* the same. Linux/Mac requires a different selection compared to Windows. Use a Hex Editor to compare, you should see the same exact bytes from offset 0x10 to 0x17 (8-bytes total). Windows wem files will be different from Linux/Mac wem files.
nnyonnyo77 1 Dec, 2023 @ 12:48pm
+ I just checked the codec and an official audio file from civ6, BabaYetu, my audio had the same codec (custom vobris). The only difference as long as I found was only bitrate, which was all different. I guess that isn't a big matter. Still don't know what the problem is... :(
nnyonnyo77 1 Dec, 2023 @ 12:36pm
This mod is really satisfying me! It reminds me the first time playing civ4, that excitingness. Something I wanted to do was replacing the wem file into another one, but it seems not to work(same file name). I converted my audio file from wav to wem using Wwise, and I also checked that the converted wem file plays well. But once I try it in civ6, no audio comes out. What do you think the problem is? Will there be any difference between your wem file and my wem file(codec, idk something etc.)? Can I ask your way of converting to wem?

@Varpushaukka, hmtln, I added "A New Course". It's tested on Linux, but it should work on Mac and Windows. I used the WEM encoding techniques from memory.
Varpushaukka 7 Sep, 2023 @ 6:29pm
"A New Course" is the music used in the official launch trailer back when the Civ 6 base game was released 7 years ago, so I'm guessing it's also in the opening movie in the game if you only own the base game and neither of the two expansions.

Odin Vex  [author] 7 Sep, 2023 @ 4:31pm
@hmtln, Steam doesn't notify me of posts here, so it's up to me to randomly launch Steam to see notifications. "A New Course", where is it from? Is it a Sid Meier's Civilization theme?
hmltn 5 Sep, 2023 @ 2:15pm
Really nice being able to switch up the menu music, if you're open to creating more of these would it be possible for you to make one which replaces it with A New Course? (the opening movie music that's basically a slightly calmer version of sogno di volare lol)

@Blue Skyes, Glad you like the mods, I'm an atheist but still a fan of Baba Yetu, it's that nice. To keep the nature of these simple to prevent conflicts, I had decided against a jukebox mod. Civilization doesn't gracefully allow hooking/shadowing methods and such, otherwise that would have been one of the things I'd have done immediately for a lot of people.
Blue Skyes 12 Jun, 2023 @ 7:00pm
Hi there! I love this mod - and your other music mods! I was wondering, is there any possibility of putting them all together into one mod, and having them play either randomly or sequentially? Like, you boot up the game, and the mod randomly selects from a pool of Civ menu themes to play a different one each time? Regardless, loving getting to hear Baba Yetu in Civ again :lilimok:
Odin Vex  [author] 9 Jun, 2023 @ 4:17pm
@Varpushaukka, It is a direct encode from an original file. :) As for the music reverting to the default, that would be a bug in the engine that could be worked around but would break a lot of scripts. It shouldn't happen at all, but does, and not for everyone. I figured to play it safe for most people. *shrug*
Varpushaukka 8 Jun, 2023 @ 12:20pm
Great mod, the audio quality was definitely better than I expected! One scenario I noticed was that if I load an autosave mid-game (might be the case for loading any kind of save mid-game tbh), then the music goes back to default for that loading screen only. Baba Yetu does play on the background when loading a save from the main menu, but I assume it should also play if you load a save mid-game? I have all expansions if that matters.

@Tyrknight, Enjoy. :)
Tyrknight 27 Nov, 2022 @ 9:14am
Thank you so much for bringing the most touching soundtrack back to life in 6

@Chuck, Enjoy. :)
Chuck 19 Nov, 2022 @ 1:54pm
Best Civ theme, hands down.
Odin Vex  [author] 25 Sep, 2022 @ 12:38pm
@duckey_, No problem, enjoy. :)
duckeyy_ 25 Sep, 2022 @ 10:32am
Actually, it seems it was just a problem of an outdated PC. I upgraded recently and the problem seems to have been fixed. Thanks for your help!
Odin Vex  [author] 24 Sep, 2022 @ 6:58am
@duckeyy_, All of the pre-defined mod-conflicts are only known to me, if you find one, let me know the GUID and I'll add it to the lists. :)
duckeyy_ 23 Sep, 2022 @ 12:43pm
Thanks! I'll look through the game files to see if I can find anything.
Odin Vex  [author] 19 Sep, 2022 @ 8:27am
@duckeyy_, This should loop. If not, you have something else conflicting with the mod. You see, this mod overlays (transparently 'overwrites virtually') the original theme-song file. Perhaps Civ VI has a bug referencing the original file manually instead of the overlayed file.
duckeyy_ 18 Sep, 2022 @ 10:20am
Excellent mod! The Civ 4 theme is the best by far. However, I noticed that it only played once before playing the Civ 6 title theme. Is there a way to play the Civ 4 theme on loop?
My OS is Windows, if that helps.
Odin Vex  [author] 27 May, 2022 @ 9:37pm
@Cook Cannibal, Enjoy. :) I'm not religious, but it's still a nice song.

@the_buccaneer82, Glad I could provide, enjoy. :)
Jonnus.Cobra 4 Mar, 2022 @ 2:33pm
Awesome! It works! Thanks a lot. You're amazing.
Odin Vex  [author] 4 Mar, 2022 @ 12:25am
@the_buccaneer82, I managed to finally get Wwise working on Linux, and it took an hour, but I also figured out which settings to use for the ****ing retarded conversion settings (not published by the game makers). I managed to make three mods: Civ V, Gods and Kings, and Terra Nova. They're uploaded now and set to public. If you would confirm each one works for Windows for me, I'd take that as great thanks for the time it took to upload. (They're obviously incompatible with one another, only one can be enabled at a time, though all can be subscribed to simultaneously.)
Jonnus.Cobra 3 Mar, 2022 @ 8:06pm
Yes! That’s the one. Thank you, Odin. You’re awesome.
Odin Vex  [author] 3 Mar, 2022 @ 3:16pm
@the_buccaneer82, I do have the original src files, but I don't have a Windows install (went complete Linux, so tired of Microsoft and Windows). The WWise tools specific to Civ VI only run on Windows and not very properly on Wine, so the odds are against it, but I'll think about trying to find the time to do just that. I actually thought about doing all of Civ V themes when I was doing this one but felt it wasn't popular enough compared. X_x; I've got a lot going on in life, so I may not be able to do it any time soon, but if I do, I'll specifically reach out to you to let you know. *name on paper*

To be clear, you mean this one, yes? (Don't worry, I'd use the actual game files, 100% quality instead of a YouTube rip) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGgDCFa6hpM
Jonnus.Cobra 3 Mar, 2022 @ 12:33pm
Hi. I'm not in position of asking for mods, but what about an option for replacing the main menu music by Gods & Kings main theme from Civ V? Thanks
Odin Vex  [author] 18 Oct, 2021 @ 1:52pm
@Zemixy, Most welcome, enjoy. :) I'm not religious, but even I can like Baba Yetu.
Zemixy 15 Oct, 2021 @ 7:20pm
Works perfectly!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Odin Vex  [author] 22 Apr, 2021 @ 9:00pm
@Tehh Zombeh, Thanks, glad you like it. :)
DarKnight 20 Apr, 2021 @ 5:31pm
I have genuinely been searching for this mod since Civ6 release.
Absolutely stellar, you have my greatest thanks.
Odin Vex  [author] 6 Apr, 2021 @ 2:40pm
@Flactine, This is not the place to ask questions for your own project like this. But I suppose I'll answer. There are many free high-quality tools to convert audio formats from one to another, such as Audacity. When you convert to WEM using Wise you *must* remember to set the options correctly or your file won't play on every platform (or even Civ). Linux for example needs a different set of options.
Flactine 6 Apr, 2021 @ 1:38am
How to convert ogg. file to wem.? I can only convert wav. file to wem, then this kind of wem. can't be played in main menu.
Odin Vex  [author] 2 Apr, 2021 @ 5:13am
@blkbutterfly74, Thanks, glad you like it. :) Despite my not being a religious-type, I do enjoy Baba Yetu, too.
blkbutterfly 31 Mar, 2021 @ 9:20am
Great mod. Baba Yetu is vastly superior to the Civ VI theme. And at least for those of us who own a copy of Civ IV this is brilliant! :steamhappy:
Odin Vex  [author] 25 Mar, 2021 @ 9:33am
@InsanityShotsTV, You are most welcome, glad you enjoy it. I feel much the same inspired by Baba Yetu to play Civ. Too bad Civ has turned into a DLC-whore. :(
JaredDGaming 25 Mar, 2021 @ 7:36am
This mod is excellent. Brings back one of the greatest game songs ever. Nothing like some Baba Yetu to get you in the mood to play Civ. Shoutout to the mod creator Odin Vex for this one!
Odin Vex  [author] 13 Feb, 2021 @ 3:13am
@John_darkhorse, The number of mods will never be a problem. Only the mod-load order or any mod that modifies whatever I modify. With your new install you may have gotten lucky with the default mod-load order. You can manually change it.
john_darkhorse 12 Feb, 2021 @ 2:12pm
That is a lot of work. I also found that in my newer PC, the problem I had before with this mod cutting out no longer seems to be an issue. I think I was overloading that PC with too many mods and that was what caused the glitch. (running 314 mods now and running stable, if a little slow on the game loading)
Odin Vex  [author] 5 Feb, 2021 @ 9:34am
@John_darkhorse, The problem with the idea of a user-replaceable file is users needing to install WWise, encode their audio with *exact* settings, per Operating System and then replacing files which get forcibly updated by Steam all of the time (which would replace the template file if it existed or delete the user file if the template file 'to play' was missing).
john_darkhorse 5 Feb, 2021 @ 8:54am
Hadn't thought about the copyright issue. I could see where that might be an issue. Some of the ideas I had thought of were possibly other Civ or Sid Meyer themes, or for comedy's sake, We didn't start the fire, by Billy Joel (which would most likely cause the copyright issue you're concerned about)
What about a version of the mod that allowed the user to link their own song? I'm still learning how to mod myself, but have no idea on how to do what you have managed with this mod.
Odin Vex  [author] 29 Jan, 2021 @ 12:24pm
@John_darkhorse, I haven't created a list of known-conflicting mods. I'm more or less settled with Civ VI (the whole "new 5-minute DLC for an arm and a leg" is getting old, very fast). I'll always keep my mods up-to-date (may need reminding from time to time). As for new themes...such as? I must be careful of copyscrew infringeuponyou stuff. -_-
