But that train keeps a rollin' on down to San Antone"
I've thought about several ways to code it, but before I wrote a single line of it, most of the ideas already got discarded by some more thinking about the way to take... They all seem to have some problems so this is going to be a tough nut.
I will need a lot of free time in a row, and a decent amount of cash to live for that period to have no worries about anything - and not get disturbed by anything from the outer world in order to make it happen. tl;dr train deliveries might happen, but not in near future.
- fixed the front of the diesel train sprite
- added an empty cargo wagon
- added a shunter train
- removed the station platform objects
Please use the material tiles from the walls / floors menus instead.
You can create far better custom station platforms with those material tiles anyway.
The ones in the Walls menu are to create the edge of a train station.
The ones in the Floors menu are to create platform tiles and stairs leading up to the platform.
Whenever a person wants to walk onto a station platform, he will need to use the stairs you've put on a side in order to access it. It is basically the idea of a door, but camouflaged as some outdoor looking material.
I'm thinking about removing the station objects from this mod, since they are now kinda redundant/obsolete. Then again, who cares. It's your call.
Instead, just place the new Railway Manager on the map.
It will spawn a train on a random track to work around the before mentioned issue.
Railway Tracks should always be removed with its button, not the Dismantle tool from the Objects menu. When using the button, it will update the Railway Manager, turn the track into Dirt, repair any rail or road crossings and also get rid of obsolete Railway Track Signs for that track.
- added Railway Manager: place 1 of these on the map. It spawns a train on a random track every 30~60 minutes.
- added Railway Track Sign: gets spawned at railway crossings when creating new tracks on the map. These lights turn green/red when a train is coming/passes by.
- added Railway Sign (green & red): some eyecandy signs to place near a track.
Note that the active track signs only get spawned on new tracks. Existing tracks on the map will need to be replaced if you want lights at rail crossings.
@Haze well if I would bang my head several more times on a concrete wall then perhaps there could be a moment where I'd adapt some stuff from my Advanced Roads 2.0 mod in here and make it work. In theory it's possible...
@facciola that of course would be the price when it's Sales with -75% I hope, otherwise it would be too much of a bargain
I guess this mod is finished now, have fun!
- added quickbuilds for Railway Switches.
If you are using Modern UI 3.0 then these quickbuilds will show their proper icons.
- Railway Switches (see sneak preview screenshot above).
Using 54 tiles per switch, these things will come as Quickbuilds only, otherwise the materials menu would get REALLY flooded...
As you can see the 'Switch to the left' is done, now I just need to add the definitions for 'to the right', and both horizontal switch types. Why the fk did I think this might be a good idea?
- added Railway Bumper Block
- all train wagons can now also be bought as eye candy objects to create custom stations.
- added Railway Station pieces to create horizontal or vertical platforms. Stations can be as long as you want, just place more centre pieces between both side pieces. Stations block movement in order to create artificial walls.
