There you find only one file '!_xvcv_mdlc_species_classes.txt'. Open it with a regular editor, go to line 39 and add "android" to it so that it looks like this:

with that you should be able the other portraits.
I also had another question. If I use the robot/machine expansion mod, it lets me start the game as robots. Is there a way to get this portrait available for the robots starting out?
I am not sure how to do this, is there a specific load order I should use?

I know exactly what you mean because I tried something similar in the past but that isn't possible for me.
I took a look into the mod (the one you mentioned) and tried to recreate its structure but this leads to having gender-options for the entire ROBOT- and MACHINE-phenotype. 'Animated Synthetics' seems to have solved this by creating a series of new phenotypes that are hidden in the initial species selection. These seems to be the ones with access to genders and might be activated by events. I simply lack to ability to creating anything similar.
So, sorry. There is nothing I can do.
I am not entirely sure what you mean. In "common/species_classes/android_species_classes.txt" in the lines 57 & 168 I have simply called it "android" for regular robot races and machine empires.
So, after updating my launcher and sorting out admin related launch problems I was finally able to properly update the mod. I hope everything works now as it should.
I really really like your mod, but I cannot use this mod because of achievements...
Now people can play rogue nurse or nanny droids.
