Thanks for both the consideration and evaluation of your testing. I am glad that you have decided that urban residential does need to external heating, over that of historical flavour.
I can understand the consideration but agree that in actual use it would be simply free heat.

The only time that I have some issues with heat and buildings, remembering that when heat was first introduced we had to add it to industry as well until it was changed, is when having to build a small fire station to be close to remote oil rigs or power supplies etc. No people within those remote type of buildings but they can still catch fire.
Then you need fire services which in turn needs to be manned, that means a heat source or finding one from the workshop with heating disabled, but not always aesthetically fit...!
Running a lengthy heat exchanger, with a pump, now seriously affects its output.

Okay, so I tested adding self-heating and it seems to generate only negligible amounts of pollution if any, essentially turning it into a free heat source. Therefore I have to abandon the idea of self-heating even in old buildings because I agree with Vimes here that urban buildings should always have some kind of heating and it's much more important than historical flavour.

No, this would clutter the mod tab too much, they are already pretty big packs (one has 9 buildings, the other has 8). And then configuring the skins for them (taking into account the limit of 16 entries per item), just no :P

I'll add the self-heating ability later, but as it's just historical flavour I don't consider it a priority now (I have to specify the coordinates of chimneys in the config files of all those buildings :P ).

>but the ability of self-heating might actually be historically justified and it just slows down the inevitable, people die because of the pollution they emit instead of cold.

I thought this too :)

Perhaps you could do an alternate self-heating version of the brick flats, same quality and number of workers housed, which cost more to build with the advantage that citizens don't freeze in the winter, although the regular non-self-heating ones are still available, so the originals don't pollute, but citizens might die of cold.

I cannot really imagine any real case where such buildings could exist without external heating anyway. They'll be surrounded by shops, schools, cinemas and so on which require heating. I consider it more of a flavour as it wouldn't be useful in the long-term.

And thanks for the reward :)

Enjoy another reward 👍

Overlap here on postings..!

Good points, well made.

We agree, self heat and polllute.

Well done 👍

Just seen the links that you posted regarding the two types of buildings. Thanks for the links.
Point taken on the historic justification but you also have to fit into the ethos of the game.

To me self heating of residential buildings perhaps works in a rural setting offset by small amounts of pollution as every burn coal.

Urban settings, no not really.

As the game itself doesn't go back to 1950's, without editing, then historic accuracy only goes so far.

Anyway thanks for what you do 👍
robs074  [author] 18 Dec, 2020 @ 12:39pm
Yes, but this only concerns residential buildings. You can configure them to work that way (they can heat themselves but when they do that they emit pollution). Other types of buildings can only have enabled or disabled heating.
Vimes 18 Dec, 2020 @ 12:35pm
Ah, so if you manage pollution then you will still need to manage heat in your buildings?!
If that is the case then great, I didn't know there was a difference.

Thanks for explaining, appreciate that. 👍

The only buildings that may be affected are https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2105098851 and https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2092843779 . Personally, I'm not in favour of disabling heating in residential buildings, but the ability of self-heating might actually be historically justified and it just slows down the inevitable, people die because of the pollution they emit instead of cold.
robs074  [author] 18 Dec, 2020 @ 12:24pm
You'd still have to heat them if you have pollution on. Otherwise, your people will die quickly :P It works only as an emergency measure.
Vimes 18 Dec, 2020 @ 12:22pm
Your choice I know but to me a pity that you are making some of your houses self heating.
Please mark them as such then I don't use them.
The point of having heating as a management thing in this game for residential means that you have to control it.

Thanks for the skins, appreciate those

Thanks man! Really helps :)
robs074  [author] 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:38pm
OK, I'll do it :)
Flayoun 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:37pm
Fair enough, could you at least add self-heating to your 1950s residentials pack?
robs074  [author] 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:34pm
I doubt these buildings had an internal system either. Only buildings from the 50s and earlier might have had it.
Flayoun 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:26pm
I interpreted self-heating as being there's an internal heating system inside the building, not pumped in from outside, but maybe I'm just weird.
robs074  [author] 17 Dec, 2020 @ 10:15pm
All buildings have chimneys... Self-heating means to me that every flat has its stove for heating and it's not something these buildings ever had.
Flayoun 17 Dec, 2020 @ 9:43pm
Will you make this and some of your other brick flats self-heating? Seems a bit weird when I'm building to have to heat houses that already have chimneys.
ZavodDeshovok 24 Oct, 2020 @ 11:22pm
Wonderful! But Please can you change the textures of roof? Im a big fan of your works, they are awesome! but almost alll roofs are too different from those in vanilla, thats why when I build city threre is too much contrast, it makes my inner perfectionist crazy. I'm not demanding anthing, I have no right to demand. But I hope you will do it, if not, its not I problem, I will still love you!

robs074  [author] 3 Oct, 2020 @ 7:10am
To znaczy jakie na przykład?
Zbychu 3 Oct, 2020 @ 7:02am
zrobisz jakieś nowsze kamienice?
robs074  [author] 3 Oct, 2020 @ 2:15am
They are completely different types built in the Soviet Union and not in Poland and they are already available anyway :P
Schro 3 Oct, 2020 @ 2:11am
The 1-201-2 and the 1-201-9.
robs074  [author] 3 Oct, 2020 @ 2:02am
I know, but I won't make a completely fictitious building with no real counterpart, it has to be justified somehow.
Schro 3 Oct, 2020 @ 1:57am
No I don't really mean as a Replica of one in Lublin, I mean try to make this one into a 2 story flat.
robs074  [author] 3 Oct, 2020 @ 1:53am
Two-storey blocks of flats were very uncommon in Polish cities. I can't think of anything like that.
Schro 3 Oct, 2020 @ 1:44am
Nice! Maybe a 2 Story version?
