On Windows it just logs the error and continues/ignores it, but on Mac and Linux unfortunately the game crashes. I worked around it by just commenting out the section that uses that mesh. (And I checked the original mod and unfortunately it doesn't have that mesh either.)
If you want to read more about why the crash happens: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/stellaris-ctd-on-launch-only-using-dlcs-plus-gigastructural-engineering.1561154/

Just in case it doesn't update in the playlist, try unsubing and then resub.
Nexus mods has a much stricter policy when it comes to mod sharing.
There, for example, I would usually have to obtain the consent of the original authors before I put it there, modified or not.
It's not my work after all, apart from the updated city sets that I made.
The second reason, of course, can be that it was reported for some other reason, for example because it's a copy of that mod and someone other than me uploaded it on the nexus.
In short, I have no idea. :)
But I can assure you that here it's just the simple game files, like in any other mod, without any virus.
But of course that doesn't prevent anyone from downloading these files, or mods in general here, and uploading them to other sites after packing something suspicious in there for others to download.
It never happened to me personally, but of course that doesn't mean it never happens at all.
The third place I found it, I was given a warning of a malicious virus. I am hesitant to even post the link as it may flag me, but I found it on reddit.

Couple of small points, though:
The file 'silfae_species_00.txt.txt' has an extra closing brace in the final line. Line 283, iirc.
A number a files are suffix'd '.txt.txt' might not be an issue, but not having spotted it elsewhere, figured it was worth mentioning (just in case).
They also included it in their mod, so it'll appear in both portrait sets.
I never got that deep into modding to change or add civics or traits (besides allowing authoritarians to purge).
A ship set is automatically generated for each city set and each portrait category that you add.
Whenever you add a city, you'll also add a portrait category and a ship set, and for every portrait category you add, you'll add a city and a ship set, and of course, for every ship set that you add, there will be a portrait category and a city set.
These three are tied toghether. It's hardcoded.
The only way to prevent that from happening would be to remove all cities this mod adds.
Then it would just add one city and ship set because of the one portrait category that is added.
And if I lack of motivation for the game, I tend to only maintain my mods to keep em playable for others instead of investing lots of scarce spare time to create new ones.
The problem with this is that the Empire names that are generated by the AI are tied to the portrait category (e.g. mammals have another pool of names than plantoids and so on).
Unfortunately this is hardcoded so there'd be no other way around this than the one mentioned above.
I could make a seperate mod that does this someday, but if I just make a change like that to this one then it'll break the portraits of those that already have ongoing games with this mod.
I know what you mean, the problem is just that there is no way of properly recreating silfaes preset empires after all those updates that changed the government types.
If you look at the Xirmians for example, they are a xenophile, materialistic, individualist direct Democracy.
And since individualism is just as as close to egalitarianism as authoritarianism is, there is little chance to recreate it properly. D:
And before I try to recreate those empires and then need to change them over and over again at the request of some who disagree with my interpretations of how they would be now, I thought it'd be better to just leave it to everyone to recreate them individualy as they see fit.
Nah, there are many mods out there that update silfae's synths like
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2078117903&searchtext=silfae+synth
or
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2208395421
Just as there are mods that cover his silicoids like

This mod here was just ment to kinda compliment them, as a modular update for the organic ones because I couldn't find one back then that was up to date.
@Scipio
Yeah they kinda where intended with this sort of dimorphism, bigger females and smaler males.
Either way I very much appreciate that you actually went and updated the portraits and citysets, as my games have felt quite empty without them for nearly two years now :)
But yeah, I'll guess I should probably start watching star trek or similar series, perhaps it'll give me a bit of inspiration for future mods or empires to make ingame.
it would be nice if you do, but dont feel pressed into doing it.i just felt this is an awesome mod who dont deserve to die.
But you schould really try star trek.the original series can be a little bit chessy somethimes but it is cult and set the tone for an entire decade of scifi.perhaps you could start with deep space nine.it is concidered the best star trek series out there but it is not that episodic like tng or tos.
I've just unzipped the linked mod, and as far as the portraits are concerned it only contains a few hairstyles and 3 pieces of clothing for each gender, which are then combined with the hummanoid2 body.
Maybe I could make a good Klingon mod to the standard of my other species mods, with clothes for every job, multiple bodies with brezhnevs eyebrows on every face, and lots of hairstyles if I could get into Klingons or Star Trek stuff in general.
But I haven't seen a single Star Trek episode in my entire life. D:

According to the description, it should contain portraits of these things.
I mean the official humanoid ones, well, they are not as ugly as klingons, but at least there are bazillion variations of clothing and hairstyles if you play with the SE Humanoid mod.
But as for the ship set, I've never dealt with ship modding, mainly because it requires a lot more constant updates than portraits or city sets, as new ship types are added more often (and so I don't have to constantly make compatibility patches for this and that ship type mod).
sadly the op will not update it and is is broken.i would love to play the species portrait again.
It would be great.

The mod here has fewer city sets and therefore fewer shipsets, because it was probably forgotten to generate the respective species classes.
Every city set comes with a ship set attached to it and every ship set comes with a city set. :/
